Reversible airflow flatbed dryer in the Philippines (Dubbed in English)

- Drying paddy under the sun is cheap and environment-friendly, but it has its limitations. The Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice; www.philrice.gov.ph), together with Nong Lam University in Vietnam, worked to construct the reversible airflow flatbed dryer to address the problem of uneven drying of paddy.
This video discusses the limitations of sundrying and introduces mechanical drying as a way to maintain high grain quality and reduce losses. It presents the reversible airflow flatbed dryer, its main components, key features, and how it works. Filipino farmers share their stories and the benefits they have experienced since using the dryer. These farmers were able to install these dryers through the Postharvest Learning Alliance initiated by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI;irri.org) and PhilRice.
This partnership video is a product of the Irrigated Rice Research Consortium of IRRI and PhilRice with funding from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the Asian Development Bank.

The flatbed dryer system, so simple as it seemed, is the simplest drying system design and yet even engineers failed to construct it satisfactorily in terms of fuel efficiency, and system efficiency...Because it involves the knowledge and understanding of fluid dynamics, and the agriproduct being dried as a biological product. If you can upload the blue print of this dryer, the better so that farmers can construct without disturbing your office. I am going to construct this type of dryer as soon as blue print be uploaded. Paddy drying is my big problem specially during this rainy season

Hello thank you for your message. To answer your question I am not really sure how to acquire the components needed to build this air dryer for Rice. I was simply asking if anybody might know where to get the different parts needed like for example the vented floor and the furnace system that blows the warm air through the vents of the dryer. discover a blower run benefited from Solar energy instead of a machine to minimize economy of expenses.
I think it is primary designed for gloomy and rainy days so solar motor system will not work during those times. But solar motors can still be considered for sunny days.

This is a flatbed dryer the same as the conventional flatbed dryer. But the flow of the heated drying air can be reversed from the bottom up and vice versa. Hence, no grain mixing is required. But the time saved for grain mixing is also spent in reversing the airflow. So, basically there is no savings in labor. The reversible flatbed dryer is about
20% more expensive than the conventional flatbed dryer and have a higher maintenance cost. The conventional flatbed dryer can dry paddy with uniform moisture content if properly operated, so thus the reversible flatbed dryer.

Drying air temperature range: 45 degree Celsius for binhi drying. For commercial paddy for milling 50 to 65 Celsius depende sa pagkabasa ng palay...On average moisture 60 degrees Celsius ok.

Major drawback pagginamitan ng ganitong dryer yung palay na pangbenta mo bumababa ng around 30% yung presyo dahil di na natural yung amoy ng bigas nya nagiging amoy sunog kaya mostly ginagamit lang namin to sa nueva ecija para sa mga certified at registered na palay na gagawing binhi
