As of late December, 2019, still no keep out zones. Takes forever to learn the floor plan and never does that really well. It appears to be lost a good portion of the time. Sent it back as generally ineffective at learning the floor. I agree with you that keep out zones are practically mandatory.
They came out with a new and improved version! We got it recently and it’s awesome. Vacuums our 1250 sq ft apartment in about 40 minutes and learned our floor plan easily.
Gotta agree that self emptying is the feature that makes the robot vacuum worth getting. It’s amazing to have your floors vacuumed everyday and not touch the robot for a month.
I'm going to have to call you out on something since you were involved with this vacuum... Love your channel so don't take this the wrong way please On your CFM test, you show the Shark Non AE vacuum at 23cfm looking like the highest ever... However it appears you conveniently left off the Deebot 950, which if I'm not mistaken was 24 cfm according to your test and top of the food chain in suction power. Just makes it look like you were trying to show Shark at the top of this chart.... Just sayin...
Not only this, the review sounds biased, even thou he wants it not to be. In all honesty, this needs more transparency, like showing us the tests being performed in full with the numbers facing the camera.
I have this robot and after 1 week I'm done with it. The app is awful and the mapping is just as bad. I have a small threshold in my kitchen that my neato d4 and roomba have no problem with. The shark gets stuck every time. Last thing is 9 times out of 10 it cant find it's way home. It even states a very short distance limit in the manual.
@@hightech2lowtech The dock/bin looks atrocious for the Shark. Roomba got that part right. The S9s dock/bin looks great in the living room. Does the Sharks dock/bin use a bag to collect dirt and debris? If not, that's another foul. Just looks like a mess.
Navigation was alright it seems. I could have sworn I saw a higher CFM. However, I do mostly care about the auto empty. Even if it is worse than the other vacs, as long as it has autoempty at a cheaper price with smart navigation, it's tempting
Saw this specific vacuum on sale for Black Friday and mentioned it to my parents. Turns out they got it for us for Christmas for the new house. I think we have the second gen model, the 1101 series. This little thing works wonders. Picked up so much dirt and debris on the first go that it clogged the dust bin, so after cleaning it out and scheduling more frequent cleanings he’s been a trooper. Cleans the whole house in two 1 hour sessions with recharge and resume. The app is kind of a mess but the robot still works really well. Thanks for turning me on to this vacuum, Chris! Love the channel
I have a normal Shark vacuum cleaner, and I love it. Their customer service is good. The first day I used my Shark vacuum, which was 4 years ago, I accidentally ran it over its own cable and it got chewed up by the agitator. I called Shark and they replaced the unit for me with no charge. I was so impressed!
Performance opinion aside, Shark having the intelligence and foresight to hire him as a design consultant is friggin' genius in itself.. plus the price to performance ratio here is a total homerun. Definitely won't be buying another robot without an auto empty base and no go mapping.. 👍👌✌
Real review.... I have never bought any of the robot vacuums before. So when I seen this with less maintenance I went to the actual website. You get a 90 day money back gaurentee if you dont like it. So definitely sold me on it. It works great on flat floors. Carpet not so much the first try. It does great on the thinnest carpet. It gets stuck on any thicker carpet. And I thought my sons carpet was pretty thin. But it has to clean it several times to actually clean the grass pieces and dirt particles from his shoes. Over all I love it. I dont have to do anything with it except dump the bin every few days when it tells me to. And that's perfectly fine with me. We live out in the country and everytime someone walks in they track something in on my floors. I was sweeping 2 times or more a day. So saves me alot of work.
Yeah and the Deebot can run at 24 CFM for 2.5 Hours!!! The Shark IQ = 23 CFM and Roomba S9 = 22 CFM can only run for an hour at their MAX power setting.
One technicality I recall being mentioned, was the CFM is not a stand alone comparison. Because where the suction meets the road, aka carpet vs bare floor is an issue. I believe RM said that's why Roombas are better on carpets, but others are better on bare floors (2 brush system and where the suction meets the floor)
I don't know if he was given a pre-production model or something similar, but my experience has been different. I purchased two of these back in October 2019. One directly from shark and the other from kohls. Pros: -Where it goes, it cleans pretty well -Auto-empty base works mostly -Kohl's made the return process super easy. Cons: -Changing the cleaning power level inside the app doesn't always work -It takes many runs to create a map, only to return an incorrect map. -When you try to create rooms, the part where you create a room and the part where you name the room are not consecutive. I ended up naming my living room my kitchen because I couldn't figure out which room I was naming when it came to that step. -After creating and naming rooms, selecting them in the app to clean only that room, the vacuum continues to clean the whole house anyways. -The vacuum completely misses rooms and thinks it is done. It also gets lost or stuck underneath dining room tables. Wasting precious battery life. -The vacuum upstairs would stop and return a "cliff sensor dirty" error when it hit the edge of the steps, instead of just turning around and moving on. -Shark is trying to update the app and firmware on the unit, but their updates do not seem to be solving the problems. -I discovered there is an area inside the auto-empy base with mini "vortex" cones that is very difficult to clean out. -By default, the vacuum returns to the base every 30 minutes to empty out. Sometimes it will not completely empty, then have a clump of hair sticking out of the back-flap on the vacuum where it emptys out. Ultimately, I cannot wait any longer for shark to update their apps and firmware to make a usable product. When I contacted shark customer service, they refused to accept the return since I am a couple weeks past the 90 day return window. Even though I waited patiently for them to update their firmware and app hoping that they could do better. Don't expect "no-go lines of virtual barriers" inside the mapping software any time soon. I hope this convinces at least one person not to buy their product yet. Maybe in a few years when they have worked out all the kinks.
I’ve been looking for a more “recent” review of this vacuum that isn’t 2+ months old, so this is very helpful, thank you! By any chance would you recommend a Roomba over the Shark? I’ve been contemplating between the Shark and the i7...
A few Robot vacuum reviewers mention the Shark IQ currently as of Nov 2019 have several issues and problems. Unit those issues are fixed they recommend not to buy and even returned their Sharks. Couple of those problems include 1) SW mapping requires 30+ runs and even then the mapping is not accurate. 2) There is no bin full sensor on the Shark so it does not know when to go to the emptying base. Shouldn't be too much of an issue for smaller homes but those with pets or kids the bin is small and gets full fast leaving debris on floor or it gets an error. 3) Some customers like having no bags while other customers feel a bag is much cleaner and easier. When emptying my current RVC bin I do need to go outside to empty the bin because I don't want to breath in all the fine dust particles that float around when emptying the bin. I'd imagine there will be a lot of fine dust and debris floating around even when you carefully and slowly try to empty the shark IQ empty base.
Just got my shark today. I will be sending back my Roomba. The shark did a better job mapping the house and for the same price i paid for my roomba i get the self cleaning bin and mapping to where i can tell it go and clean specific areas. and the battery is way better. Ran about 1500 sqft on one charge. and still had about 30% left when i ran it on normal.
Bought one, gave it almost 2 months, 40 cleans, several of the worst tech support calls ever- and have now sent it back. Terrible waste of time- would seem like it was learning our home for the first 6-8 runs, then would have major issues, not able to find its base, running off our stairs, map would invert/ change direction. Never mapped our home successfully. Have now ordered a Neato D7. Did receive an email from shark today that there would be a November software update to fix some issues- too little too late. Its best feature is the 90 day moneyback guarantee- you will need it.
The massively reduced upfront cost is awesome but I'll be honest, I strongly prefer bagged vacuums, the cost of bags is negligible but the elimination of the annoying, allergy-triggering emptying process is worth every penny.
I disagree with your conclusion of this review, as someone with a Neato D5, no go lines are the most valuable feature of a robotic vacuum above a self emptying bin and the fact that at the time of this video it doesn't have them is a deal breaker. My train of thought is a robotic vacuum is no good if it can't finish cleaning your house due to getting stuck meaning who cares if it can vacuum 30 times without needing emptying if it can't get passed the first time. Plus on top of that we don't even know how well the no-go lines on the Shark will be since Roomba seems to be a step behind the lidar offerings. If Shark had advertised the feature as coming in q4 2019 or q1 2020 or something like that I might give it a pass but there isn't any information on shark's product page on their website or amazon about it. Also you didn't really discuss the app provided you might have in another video that i didn't see but I watch most of your robotic vacuum videos even though I'm not in the market lol. Side note: I think that it's awesome feat that Shark was willing to work with you and I appreciate you being open about that fact. I hope that more manufacturers decide to work with you as that is only going to make their products better which is better for consumers. If you start working with more manufactures my only suggestion is you need to be more open with what determines what is a good from a quantifiable standpoint such as category ratings in certain fields that you determine make a great vacuum so that way you can make sure that you cover every vacuum review in the same way. Your testing procedures I would argue are very consistent and part of why without a doubt in my mind I'd call you the best vacuum reviewer but your reviews need some added consistency in the sense of order and what they cover. If I were doing the ratings I'd give 40% cleaning, 40% navigation/completion reliability, 5% app quality and features, 15% build quality and hardware features. I've seen your reviews get better over the years and can't wait to see where you will be in the future! :)
Agreed. I've been shopping for one to replace my old Neato and one of my must haves is the no go line. I'm sick and tired of having to use and buy more of those strip boundaries. The auto empty I considered a nice to have, but mostly because before this vacuum the ones with auto empty made me completely reconsider my budget. I called Shark tech support today to ask if they knew anything about adding in a no go zone, and after painfully having to explain several times what that meant (guy kept thinking I was talking about naming rooms) he finally hung up on me. I would buy this vacuum today if it already had a no go zone feature, or if there was a guarantee that feature would be out by the end of 2019. I'd pay an extra $100 for the no go zone if I had to.
I agree. VW doesn't test for how higher end robovacs are usually used. Navigation and furniture damage are important issues in larger, more complex and expensive households. A higher end robovac needs to consistently navigate a large complex floorplan without bumping narrow chair legs and corners. I'm sure that the IQ is among the worst performers in the real world.
Picked this up on black Friday and am really happy with it so far! No complaints at all. The robot does a great job cleaning and I haven't had any issues with the app.
You should standardize more tests and let the numbers speak for themselves even more, ie: weigh the amount of dirt picked up in the crevice tests, show how loud each vacuum is at all power levels with a DB meter, show an exact time it takes to finish both the small and big rooms to show relative efficiency with navigation, use a black light reactive dust to show on the hard floor tests to show what is left behind, etc.
@@ellenjarvey1973 I'm calm. He prides himself on objective meadurements, trying to avoid any subjective bias. I am a fan of the channel and was just trying to provide some suggestions. You ok?
Easy to say when you aren't doing all that test engineering, test equipment build out, test plans and the longest, hardest testing part which is testing all those products. I'm very pleased with VACUUM WAR MAN! He goes the extra distance already and doesn't need seagull management flyovers crapping on his significant accomplishments.
@@takipetenakis1697 why so mad? I love him too, I've followed him for years. I was just giving some constructive feedback and suggestions, many of which he is now doing consistently with his videos.
Just purchased this after our cheapo iLife died. I can’t believe how many error codes I get from this thing. It’s so much more work than my cheapo. I’ll give it another week, but not sure it’s worth the constant upkeep.
I traded my Roomba 980 and I was skeptical.at first it was clumsy but after sometime vacuuming it seem to learn my house. I like it so much I bought a second. It's very quiet compared to the 980. It even made it to my shag rug without throwing a code very surprising. I bought two and I still had money left over compared to when I paid for my 980 originally.
so, just bought this a week ago, mostly on your recommendation...and I have to say, it's just awful! It's run over 15 hours at this point and has yet to map my house and is only at 42% mapped (roughly 900sqft floor plan). Constantly goes over the same areas repeatedly, sometimes cleaning one small section for 30 minutes or even longer. The robot will go back to the dock to recharge (because it can't clean my small floorpan in one charge) then head right back to the same spot afterwards. Had one time where the vacuum searched for the dock for 20 minutes before I got fed up and just took it back myself. Pretty much the largest percentage of reviews online mirror all of this...how did you have one that did everything so perfectly?
This feels less like one of your normal videos and more like an infomercial. When you do a competition video with it in the future, I hope that you are more objective and don't do things like use phrasing or omissions to downplay when it is bested by other robots. Don't get me wrong, it seems like a good bot, and I'm good to see competition in the self-emptying market. This video just feels off.
jaenbow It was informative and he did a great job explaining the features. The tests were all in comparison and it did really well against the other ones which he named in each chart. What is so off about? Perhaps you can make your own channel about vacuum robots, I bet it would be amazing content.
I bought this Shark IQ at Kohls for $329.61 when I used coupons and signed up for their credit. (You get a coupon for 30% off anything when you get a credit account. Then I used 2 more coupons right off their site.) I have had many Roombas and this shark runs along with my Roomba 980. It does a decent job but I would say the Roomba's performance is a little better. The Shark seems to get confused a little more on dark surfaces and doesn't suck up debris as well as the 980. Also, I don't really like how the Shard backs up to dump the bin. It gets confused doing that and sometimes takes quite a while to actually dump after it has moved around a few times. The Roomba also moves in straighter lines and the Shark kind of studders back and forth as it is moving like it has Parkinson's disease. The Shark is worth what I paid. I would have got the S9+ as it is probably the best out there but iRobot is smoking Crack if they think that thing is worth $1400.
Once they add no-go lines, it'll be a game changer at that price. I like the lower profile that the camera gives, but wish you could have talked them into integrating LED lighting for the camera so that it could handle dark rooms.
With the camera, how well can it do picking up in the evening when everyone's gone to bed? Does it need to run during the day or with lights on in the home?
I have the S9+. I leave my house and I don't leave any lights on. There is a little light in the living room from the window. But it's dark in my guest bathroom and laundry room. As long as the smart map is 100% mapped, I think the S9+ won't have any problems in the dark.
@@og_werwest You don't need lidar. The robot knows where it is based on camera and WiFi. Not rocket science how the robot operates. How do you think it returns to it's base? It maps out the most efficient route and uses it. It won't change the route unless it's obstructed.
I had a shark iq, it would get lost in my closet if the light was off. Even if I turned on the lights and babysat the device it still did a very poor job mapping. I returned it and went back to my Neato D5. I do miss that self empty base, but in my mind it was far inferior in every other way to the Neato.
@@Slick1020 maybe the sharks implementation of VSLAM is flawed and I don't have any experience with others but the lidar on my Neato is far superior to the Camera based mapping.
My S9+ works too well with my Google Home mini. I was watching an S9+ review on UA-cam at 4 AM. The guy said, "Okay Google clean xxxx." He was able to activate my Roomba through the Google Home that sits across from me on my couch. My Roomba undocked and was headed on a cleaning run! Lol I was like oh no you don't.
Great review i loved the under view so i could visibly see how well the side brushes fling stuff into it. The hair test was a big one for us as well as the sand test. We are sold
I have it, I think he may have been a little bias as some people say, but it's a great robot and it is really good. Just add multiple floors and better software and it would beat the roomba's any day
I feel like battery life is very important. I don’t use my vacuum (roborock s5) when I’m out of the house because I have an older dog and I don’t want to stress her. My house (recently sold it) was having 79 m2 to clean (taken out all the rooms and spaces I blocked on the app, another important feature) and my vacuum cleaner more or less 1 m2 per minute. This one would have to charge in between which would prolong cleaning because it would devise it into two sessions. I love the self cleaning feature but then again, after a few times I did not have to empty the roborock every time it cleaned. I will see how it works in the apartment I’m renting because the carpet here has an annoyingly long fibers.
@@SenorDennis II did, these things are a pita to repack, and take a lot of time to setup, map and charge. Not to mention, there were several fail videos on youtube I didn't mention.
I’ve had the shark for a month now it’s great. I have 4 different sections of my house separated in the map so i can tell it to clean wherever I want whenever I want. They must’ve updated the software after these videos cause it works great now. I had my map after probably 5 house cleaning
@@SenorDennis All I can say is you are the only one currently saying this. Meanwhile my roomba is doing fine with selective room map cleaning, no go zones and no virtual walls, and also auto empties.
Yeah when I got mine I also watched all the videos talking bad about it so I kept the box ready to return it but I’ve had no issues with mine at all. I’m just a guy sharing my experience though!
One hour is short... I don't want my robot to clean, charge, clean, charge etc all night or all day as my area is big....Some robots are now reaching close to 3 hours. Great design still with the base and its handle!
Question you guys may be able to give some input on. I have an issue with both robots that I've owned previously with the front bumper getting scuffed up really bad. They house IR sensors correct? It seems like the more scratched it gets the more the robot tends to ram into things. Such as pushing my trash can around etc. Is it something I should be concerned about?
Nice Job!!! I have to agree shark IQ dual side brush single Arm slow spinning system is probably the best so far. No scatter of debris Cough Cough Roomba I7 and probably pretty effective around the base board. I wonder how it stacks up to the Roombas, Roborock and the new Deebot 950 and soon to be released 960 🤔
Smart Robot Reviews I would suspect both the Vacuum and Self empty bin pretty loud like the Roomba S9+ because they both have high CFM, 22 for the Roomba and 23 for the Shark. Patiently waiting for mine to arrive 😎
I got this robot for Christmas this year. It’s been running for about two weeks, every day. Things I love about, it the carpet lines it leaves you get with a freshly cleaned room, it empties itself, it’s not very loud, it texts me when it needs help. Things I don’t like, it gets itself into trouble - it four wheels itself over shoes and moves toys and laundry baskets, and after two weeks of use it’s starting to miss big fur balls. I picked up a piece of fur my dog left and put it right in front of the vacuum and it just combed it into the carpet. Also, the little side brushes are probably going to need to be replaced soon because they are starting to stay bent backward. It’s best to run it everyday so the workload isn’t as bad and I probably need two for the size of my rooms. Still, I love that it empties itself and I have an extra hand helping me stay ahead of the dust and dog hair.
Thank you for this review. After receiving a notification about this robot vac, I was extremely interested in it and am happy that you posted a review right away. As always, great job on your objective, in-depth review. Keep up the good work!
I love my Roomba BUT I have 5 kids and 2 large dogs. I feel like I'm always emptying out the itty bitty dust bin. I think this brilliant. Hopefully one of these days they will make one to do stairs! Now that would be heavenly.
Wow this is a must buy for me. I have 6 Neato vacuums now and have wanted to try the roomba i7+ and s9+ but the price has kept me away. Way to go shark, at this price point I will absolutely be buying this. Great video and can’t wait to see more on this bot!
T- Smooth The main reason I want to try the i7 and S9 is for the self empty which is a game changer for me. Unfortunately they are still too expensive. My Neato Botvacs do as good a job if not better than any roomba except for the S9. It’s all about the self emptying feature for me.
My daughter and family just got me one last week for my birthday haven’t got into it too seriously but I plan to. With a new adopted Pyrenees and a cockatiel living the empty nest life …. Yes!
Can you do a follow up on the software experience, or scheduling this bot, room selection, custom area selection, multiple pass options? I currently have the S5 and it's great but auto empty is almost worth an upgrade but not without a solid software experience to meet the same expectations of S5.
I wanted to ask a question. I just ordered one of these because of all the good reviews but since then I have been scrolling thru the other reviews and it paints a picture of mapping issues and app crashes are these something to be concerned about or with some tinkering and patience will this be a good vacuum?
Is it weird that I love this channel, I'm a subscriber, watch every video, know that this is probably the robot vacuum I should buy... and then don't even own one because they're hard to get here in COLOMBIA!!!! :(
how would the room mapping work on a two story home? do i just take it upstairs and have it clean up there till it runs out of battery or do i take the dock upstairs as well? would moving the charging dock mess up the home mapping? i cant find any info on this anywhere
Sorry the Shark IQ only can remember one floor plan, no multi level mapping memory. You would have to reset the map if you take it up stairs. Lastly it takes 10 full cleaning runs to create a map.
I think they want you to buy an additional robot for additional floors. I bought this product and it does an amazing job on my first floor but we have to use the old upright vacuum in the upstairs because we were more concerned about having the first floor, where the dogs are, clean. I don’t know where the hair and dust comes from but this thing is impressive.
I just bought this and it's INSANELY loud. I also have a Shark RV75 and this one is maybe 3 times louder. It is all from the self-cleaning brush roller. When I remove it, the vacuum is very quiet. It seems the yellow fins on the roller are too large and make a loud "thump" on each rotation while cleaning hard floors. Is this the case with others that own one?
I bought a Shark IQ on Black Friday. It cleaned really well but now is making a bad high pitched noise while cleaning laminate floors. I was thinking about returning it and getting a Roborock S6 Pure. I paid $200 for the Shark IQ, no AE. The Roborock S6 Pure is on sell for $350. Do you think I should swap out the Shark IQ for the Roborock S6 Pure or replace the unit with Shark through warranty?
Is it normal to feel very minimal exhaust air coming out of this shark while it operates? My Neato used to pump out substantially more air than this unit. It dies seem to be working well though. I hope you will take the time to answer
I was going to buy this and now I came across the Shark model rv1100srca. I'm confused as to what is the difference. Is it only the self empty bin that changed?
I think you need to add ability to clean at night. I like to schedule night shifts however Shark is not able to do so because of the camera system. It also bumps into the objects unlike Roborock S5 or E35 based on your reviews. I have R100 and it’s doing a pretty great job with picking up stuff. Do you know if Roborock e35 does not depend on the light? Can it clean at night?
Thank you for informative video. Have you used and reviewed the ihome Nova 2 in 1 with self emptying base? Is there a website to shop for robo vacs that allows you to shop by/filter on features i.e. mop & vac, bagless emptying bin, mapping?
7 or 8 years ago samsung makes for it's new Samsung Navibot S cyclonic emptying bin with self cleaning brushroll too, and 9 years ago Ecovacs make Deepoo d76, which has voice and dancing function (it can dance on some music and say some words about vacuuming) and it has automatic cleaning base too, but you can pick from charging base only vacuum with bagless system, connect into it hose and you have got normal vacuum, i love that Deepoo, and sometimes i want to own it. So i don't know why is everyone excited from theese really old systems, if i remember right that Deepoo costs in europe 400$, which is not much for that vacuum, so for cheap price you can get robot vacuum with display, voice and dancing module, self emptying dock and normal vacuum cleaner
@@RobotMasters rly? Where? This model is 1 year sold, cool :D, by the way you get with that cleaning base a case with hose and you can have got regular 230v vacuum cleaner for curtains, or sofas, i'm not sure, if D77 has voice function, i know, Deepoo d76 has voice function, and cyclone cleaning base, but great deal! I finally got the d73!
The side brush may be slow but it still is not as effective as the ones that have three bristles like on the roborocks because there are no other bristles to catch the scattered debris.
Not sure if I’m keeping this robot. Charge time is 4 hours. Also twice it has failed to return to the base. As of this moment there are no “no go” zones. Run time is less than an hour if it goes into the large and carpeted family room. Love the auto empty. Love the price.
I do like that you mentioned the zones. That will be a lot better than the strips that came with it. Do you happen to know if you can turn off the sound? I don't need it to let me know when it docks or when it starts.
Yep it’s good for iRobot, they had no competition before and now wow underdogs are coming up, especially they selling their filters side brush and extractors at a crazy price. Not to mention that their ‘’Keep Away Zoné’ is still in beta for months now only few people had their Keep Away Zone.
T- Smooth I own 2 roombas i7 and S9 and none have the keep out zones yet. I’ve called iRobot and they told the Keep Out Zones features was pushed only in very few robots since its in BETA TESTING now. If you don’t know what you talking about shut up yourself! The update will NOT be available to the public anytime soon. I was told in around 8 to 12 months before they release it officially. Check their web site by yourself. homesupport.irobot.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/19549/~/roomba®-i-series-firmware-release-notes
The major downside of this model that I've read about is the slow or failure to create the map. I've heard of 30+ runs to get the map. Has this been fixed with any firmware updates? Also something about the "auto empty" feature not having a sensor to know when to auto empty. Is that necessary, and when does it auto empty? Every full run? Every re-run?
I purchased for the super low price of 270 at khols and it's a POS. I've had it for a week. It never finds its base and one time it literally fell a part and there was an Easter egg hunt finding all the pieces to put it back together.
I'm not sure where some of these negative comments are coming from. We've been using the Shark IQ since Christmas and it works just he says in this video. My wife is a clean freak, literally daily. She's picked a broom one time since, and that was because of the mess in the floor after taking the trees down. We've got 4 dogs in the house, so if you read someone here say it won't pick up the hair, they'd be wrong. Zero hair in the roller either. I can't really comment on carpeted floors, but it does fine on the few rugs we have. If this guy didn't clean well, it would have been boxed up and taken back. I have two negatives, first it likes to climb way too much. I had to put boundary strips down after a couple of battles with the tree stands. I'm sure there are inclinometers built in that would prevent this with a firmware upgrade. Second, the app needs to be polished up a bit. It's a little buggy, but it works. Thanks for the review, I didn't see any bias, it works like you said.
The current vacuum they have based on this model is a great hardware, but the horrible software breaks it completely. You can tell it to go clean a specific room 5 times, and maybe 1 of those times it will go to the correct room. This is a commonly reported issue they refuse to address.
Picked one up from Amazon on Black Friday for $337. Hopefully it will be an upgrade from my 3 year old Samsung robot that will still be used for just the master bedroom going forward.
I totally agree this review is a little biased, but hey, Shark definitely nailed the auto empty system. The main gripe i have with the Irobot version is there bag that costs so much so i stayed away from it.
If I had to choose, I would go with Roomba for now, their Robots seem better build quality, App integration a little more refined, more App capabilities keep out zones, multi map memory, being able to use Alexa to select a specific room to clean, map history. I do like the Shark IQ for the price at $450 with self emptying capabilities not bad.
The fact this doesn't have a bag in the bin is a huge plus point for me. I don't want to go back to using bags and putting unnecessary junk in landfill.

the fact that I had to watch a 15 second Roomba ad before this did not make me buy a roomba, I ordered one of these in White after this video. LOL
ha! Thanks!
@@SaraBear0606 what's the model number of the new version??
Gotta agree that self emptying is the feature that makes the robot vacuum worth getting.
It’s amazing to have your floors vacuumed everyday and not touch the robot for a month.
I'm going to have to call you out on something since you were involved with this vacuum... Love your channel so don't take this the wrong way please
On your CFM test, you show the Shark Non AE vacuum at 23cfm looking like the highest ever...
I agree that he makes it seem like a perfect product
T- Smooth the sharks bin is bag less, but for many that will be a pro. No cost of new bags, less to send to landfill.
I'm glad you are happy with it! Thank you for watching!
Your list of highest CFM excludes the deebot ozmo 950 at 24 CFM?
Yeah and the Deebot can run at 24 CFM for 2.5 Hours!!! The Shark IQ = 23 CFM and Roomba S9 = 22 CFM can only run for an hour at their MAX power setting.
Robot Masters thanks for updating the CFM list on the Tank robots comparison.
Robot Masters he forgot
One technicality I recall being mentioned, was the CFM is not a stand alone comparison. Because where the suction meets the road, aka carpet vs bare floor is an issue. I believe RM said that's why Roombas are better on carpets, but others are better on bare floors (2 brush system and where the suction meets the floor)
>:(
Just got mine for Christmas from my husband, I love it!!!! A great product and I’ve been recommending it to everyone.
Is it on hardwood floor youre using or carpet? Hows it do with womens hair on carpet. I shed more than a dog
I don't know if he was given a pre-production model or something similar, but my experience has been different. I purchased two of these back in October 2019. One directly from shark and the other from kohls.
Pros:
-Where it goes, it cleans pretty well
-Auto-empty base works mostly
-Kohl's made the return process super easy.
Cons:
-Changing the cleaning power level inside the app doesn't always work
-It takes many runs to create a map, only to return an incorrect map.
I agree. I bought this robot just to run into the same issues. I wish I would’ve bought the roomba self emptying instead.
Vacuum Wars folks, I am so so grateful for all these thorough reviews you all do. It really makes shopping easier.
Totally agree.
I kind of like not having bags. I usually go out to my garbage can outside to dump things like this. Not having bags is a plus for me.
Which is why the bases for the iRobot Roomba i7+ and S9+ use bags.
I have an s9+ and we love it. Especially the easy clean up and replacement of the bag in the base.
$60 a year for 12 paper bags is a rip-off.The no bag feature is one of the best features of this product.
Love your constructive feedback.
Spot on, great feedback.
No go lines is planned for the shark iq
I like the the shark I bought two. At first it was clumsy. But now it works pretty well. It even works on my shag. Can't beat it for the money.
Calm down it’s a review
Wobbly Chair how is it doing? I am thinking about buying this.
Kevin Sauceda Hmm...I’ll just say that I kept it past the Best Buy return date. It’s still quite finicky. I honestly don’t recommend it.
It feel like this test did not go as much into the details than the other ones...
werwest he clearly wants to promote this vacuum..I really like his works before but I don’t know if I should trust him from now
NERV this wasn't a in depth review
esooru they worked around the patents
I traded my Roomba 980 and I was skeptical.at first it was clumsy but after sometime vacuuming it seem to learn my house. I like it so much I bought a second. It's very quiet compared to the 980. It even made it to my shag rug without throwing a code very surprising. I bought two and I still had money left over compared to when I paid for my 980 originally.
Kirk Georgatos completely agree
so, just bought this a week ago, mostly on your recommendation...and I have to say, it's just awful!
Brent Nelson Single room testing. Unit provided by Shark. Sponsored by Shark. Need any other reasons?
This feels less like one of your normal videos and more like an infomercial. When you do a competition video with it in the future, I hope that you are more objective and don't do things like use phrasing or omissions to downplay when it is bested by other robots. Don't get me wrong, it seems like a good bot, and I'm good to see competition in the self-emptying market. This video just feels off.
I completely disagree
jaenbow It was informative and he did a great job explaining the features. The tests were all in comparison and it did really well against the other ones which he named in each chart. What is so off about? Perhaps you can make your own channel about vacuum robots, I bet it would be amazing content.
@@theempowerer5718 i agree with you.
Jaenbow is just pissed because their $1000+ robot is getting beat by one this much cheaper..
I actually don't use no go lines as much as I thought I would - just pick everything up so it doesn't get stuck.
Bots with cameras have kinda hard time during night. Get one with lidar, it will not care if there is any light
Did they update the software for NoGo areas?
Too many details missing in this test.
What is the suction power and battery duration for eco, standart and max power settings?
You failed to mention that it works with Alexa! I would love to see you do a second review on this device with the use of Alexa to control it
My S9+ works too well with my Google Home mini.
We are sold
Glad it was helpful!
I have it, I think he may have been a little bias as some people say, but it's a great robot and it is really good. Just add multiple floors and better software and it would beat the roomba's any day
Could you review the newer A.I. version? I'd like to see if it makes a real difference...
I will see how it works in the apartment I’m renting because the carpet here has an annoyingly long fibers.
after this review I went and bought two sharks. I returned them the next day after the Amazon reviews said they don't return to the base consistently.
You returned it from reviews you read instead of just trying it yourself?
Thanks for the video!!
Does it watch for stair, for not fall down?
One hour is short... I don't want my robot to clean, charge, clean, charge etc all night or all day as my area is big....Some robots are now reaching close to 3 hours. Great design still with the base and its handle!
Question you guys may be able to give some input on. I have an issue with both robots that I've owned previously with the front bumper getting scuffed up really bad. They house IR sensors correct? It seems like the more scratched it gets the more the robot tends to ram into things. Such as pushing my trash can around etc. Is it something I should be concerned about?
That happened to mine as well. I returned mine and bought a new one. I put clear tape all around the sides of the robot so it won't get scuffed again
I've heard the Shark pretty loud tho but the brush looks so fresh
Never fear. Vacuum Wars will no doubt do many comparisons in upcoming videos.
They the i7+ you can find it for $800 and less when is on sale!
Wow this is a must buy for me. I have 6 Neato vacuums now and have wanted to try the roomba i7+ and s9+ but the price has kept me away. Way to go shark, at this price point I will absolutely be buying this. Great video and can’t wait to see more on this bot!
Try a Roomba, then try a less costly one. You will see the difference.
T- Smooth The main reason I want to try the i7 and S9 is for the self empty which is a game changer for me. Unfortunately they are still too expensive. My Neato Botvacs do as good a job if not better than any roomba except for the S9. It’s all about the self emptying feature for me.
Can’t wait to try it out! Bachelor life at its finest 😎
My daughter and family just got me one last week for my birthday haven’t got into it too seriously but I plan to. With a new adopted Pyrenees and a cockatiel living the empty nest life …. Yes!
I was thinking of buying a used one. Does it do good on tile ?
Just recently bought one and LOVE IT!
Enjoy!
I knew this would be a game changer. Now Shark is a leader in robot vacuums.
I love that they included the anti hair tangle. That’s huge for dogs...
And if you live with females.
It sure is. I never realized this until I got a couple of vacuums that tangled and had to deal with cleaning the brush after every use. No thanks.
Can you do a follow up on the software experience, or scheduling this bot, room selection, custom area selection, multiple pass options?
I currently have the S5 and it's great but auto empty is almost worth an upgrade but not without a solid software experience to meet the same expectations of S5.
What a great review! Well done! This is a fantastic video
Buy it from Costco though it’s $399 right now 👍👍👍
Fantastic review!
Thank you!
I wanted to ask a question. I just ordered one of these because of all the good reviews but since then I have been scrolling thru the other reviews and it paints a picture of mapping issues and app crashes are these something to be concerned about or with some tinkering and patience will this be a good vacuum?
Does it have no go zones now? This compared to Eufy L70?
Does it have the no go feature by now?
I'm getting one soon, I'll update you, amazon had it renewed for $199usd
I just bought one at costco.. we shall see what will happen!
Have you returned it yet? I like vacuum wars but Adam's tech reviews shows much more honest and real world tests and reviews.
I so enjoyed your evaluation and agree with everything you said. I love my Shark and may consider getting one for upstairs.
Does this affect its navigation when it's cleaning both up and down stairs?
Super Review, habe ihn mir heute bei den Black Week Deals bestellt und bin gespannt, wie er sich so macht. Greetings from germany🤪
Thank you and hello to Germany!!!
Okay, so I got one. I had been tempted by the ones with the better navigation but this one had the self-empty bin and it turns out that feature won.
Can this vac work on dark black flooring such as rubber gym mats?
I just bought this and it's INSANELY loud. I also have a Shark RV75 and this one is maybe 3 times louder. It is all from the self-cleaning brush roller. When I remove it, the vacuum is very quiet. It seems the yellow fins on the roller are too large and make a loud "thump" on each rotation while cleaning hard floors. Is this the case with others that own one?
I don’t find it loud. But you are comparing it to something else.
If you compare the noise to a regular vacuum it is downright quiet.
did they ever come out with the no go update??
Nope
How about some videos on using the robots with Alexa or Google Home?
How well does it handle black carpet? I have some.
is there a way i can find the commercial you were in?
Just ordered the Deepo D77 with self emptying BIN. Hope I can get the music function to work!!!
RoboVacCollector Got one on ebay for $170 dollars still has original box and all the components 😀. Hopefully the battery still works 😅
The side brush may be slow but it still is not as effective as the ones that have three bristles like on the roborocks because there are no other bristles to catch the scattered debris.
When are you going to review the new shark iq robot and self empty bin??
Not sure if I’m keeping this robot. Charge time is 4 hours. Also twice it has failed to return to the base. As of this moment there are no “no go” zones. Run time is less than an hour if it goes into the large and carpeted family room. Love the auto empty. Love the price.
I do like that you mentioned the zones. That will be a lot better than the strips that came with it.
Do you happen to know if you can turn off the sound? I don't need it to let me know when it docks or when it starts.
Thinking about buying this. Has Shark introduced the "No Go Boundaries" ??
no
Yep it’s good for iRobot, they had no competition before and now wow underdogs are coming up, especially they selling their filters side brush and extractors at a crazy price.
Not to mention that their ‘’Keep Away Zoné’ is still in beta for months now only few people had their Keep Away Zone.
It's called "Keep out Zones. If you don't own a Roomba, shut up. I have the S9+. If people have questions you should be the last person to comment.

1 year later and imma answer your question. We have a brand new second gen. On the third run it mapped our house flawlessly and works well
I purchased for the super low price of 270 at khols and it's a POS. I've had it for a week. It never finds its base and one time it literally fell a part and there was an Easter egg hunt finding all the pieces to put it back together.
This is why roomba is the way to go. My roomba is 5 years old and still running. I did replace the battery but has worked like a champ.
Whats difference between the XL RV1001AE
Can I use this on my second floor rooms?
Why is the Roborock S6 not in your list of tested robots? I have one and it seriously is the best of the best imo!
I’m wondering about the filters in bags? If it does have, what’s the cost ? How often do they need to be changed?
The current vacuum they have based on this model is a great hardware, but the horrible software breaks it completely. You can tell it to go clean a specific room 5 times, and maybe 1 of those times it will go to the correct room. This is a commonly reported issue they refuse to address.
Picked one up from Amazon on Black Friday for $337. Hopefully it will be an upgrade from my 3 year old Samsung robot that will still be used for just the master bedroom going forward.
Is it loud?
THIS IS A GOOD VACUUM REVIEWER!
👍🏻
Thank you so much!
I totally agree this review is a little biased, but hey, Shark definitely nailed the auto empty system. The main gripe i have with the Irobot version is there bag that costs so much so i stayed away from it.
Which brand do you prefer? Roomba or Shark?
If I had to choose, I would go with Roomba for now, their Robots seem better build quality, App integration a little more refined, more App capabilities keep out zones, multi map memory, being able to use Alexa to select a specific room to clean, map history. I do like the Shark IQ for the price at $450 with self emptying capabilities not bad.
@@RobotMasters I had a Roomba as a little kid. Now I'm 14. The Roomba died last year
WoW that a pretty long time, many people have told me that their Roomba tend to last a long time 5+ years.
@@RobotMasters wow!
Thank you so much for this information.
You are so welcome!
I bought it, it’s great, I’m pretty sure all these negative comments r from iRobot employees lol
The fact this doesn't have a bag in the bin is a huge plus point for me. I don't want to go back to using bags and putting unnecessary junk in landfill.
After it maps your house, how do you draw no go lines? I only have the option of vacuuming the whole house
What would be better: the Shark IQ robot or the Roborock S5?
So when the no zone update hits will it update the IQ robots that was previously bought or will you have to buy a new one????
theeslim stevie current units will be updated
