japanese is quite the difficult language to translate sometimes as there are three writing systems. hirigana, katakana, and kanji. with that being said, the hirigana spelling is missing a character けん - this is the proper way to spell ken using hirigana ケン - this is the proper way to spell ken using katakana 健 - this is the proper way to spell ken using kanji け - this would translate to 'ke' think of it as a letter like A, B, or C. we would pronounce it as 'ke' so that means 'けん' would be pronounced 'ken' this spelling can also mean 'matter' as alot of japanese words have multiple meanings that are vastly different. for example, 'kumo' can mean spider or cloud which obviously have no correlation hope this helps!! :)
