Mr. OshagHennesy The romance between them was not in the book and therefore not a thing in season 1. They added it later and I think it's super cute but that also developes the huge plothole and kind of makes the whole tape about him unreasonable. What I really wanted to say is that their relationship has nothing to do with her suicide because the writers didn't consider it back in season 1 when she actually killed herself and it was not in the source material. 🤷🏼

Gets shit on no matter what he does, no family or friends to support him, falls in love with a girl for the first time, loses his virginity to her - his father dies and in a matter of months the first girl he fell in love with kills herself and blames him for it.
