  • Preposition of place can be a real challenge for people who are learning English. They can be a bit annoying, confusing, and frustrating - especially ON, AT, BY, IN. As you learn English prepositions it's important that you know how to use them correctly. Unfortunately it can be a challenge to understand and master how and when to use them.
In this free class English class I will try to help you understand how to use prepositions by teaching you some common English phrases where we use them. In this English lesson you'll learn phrases like: in the bookcase, on a shelf, at dinner, for dinner, in a tree, on a tree, in the shade, near the exit, on the right, in a car, above the clouds, among the flowers, and more!
Hopefully my explanations, along with my pictures, will help you learn how to use these prepositions of place the next time you have to write something in English or when you are having an English conversation.
I hope you enjoy this English lesson about prepositions of place!
⌛ Remember: Always watch the video three times. Twice today with English subtitles on, and once tomorrow with the English subtitles off. This will reinforce the English you have learned!

I appreciate lessons like this one because it's not the same as when someone's trying to force you to remember these expressions by just showing you the pictures and repeating the words. The stories you tell while explaining the prepositions make learning them much more natural.

Speaking of the difference between "in school" and "at school", when you are IN school it can also indicate that you are studying at school/college but it doesn't necessarily mean that you are physically inside the school. The fact is you are still a student. Hope my explanation was clear.
Thank you, Bob, for another useful lesson 😀

Yes, it is absolutely correct to say, "You are the best teacher anyone could ask for." It's actually very common amongst native English speakers to use the expression "You are the best … anyone could ask for." Well done!

Thanks for this lesson! I usually get confused when it comes to placing proper prepositions. But the way you taught is going to help me in the future to place the right preposition to sound more clear. If you had taught us to show only words, we might forget it a couple of days later. But visualization technique is perfect to keep us reminded forever.

I understand that there are many exceptions in the English language, but I'd like to know the reason why we should use "at home" and not "in home" or "in school" instead of "at school" in the context of physical location. Thank you in advance.

this lesson was so confusing😵‍💫... those people, who say that English is an easier language than others, are so wrong. I think one of the proofs that we aren't native will be always exactly the moment when we have to use prepositions 😥

Hello! I am a native speaker of Wnglish from America. If you are trying to say that you turn rocks into coffee, either one of these phrases will mean the same thing. You can say "out of" or "from" in this case and there is not much difference. Both will mean you turn rocks into coffee.
