HABLEG - High Altitude Balloon Launched Experimental Glider
The group Flying Robots at the DLR Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics in Oberpfaffenhofen conducts research on solar powered high altitude aircrafts. Due to the high altitude and the almost infinite mission duration, these platforms are also denoted as High Altitude Pseudo-Satellites (HAPS) or High Altitude Platforms (HAP).

my paper about the flight elib.dlr.de/100777/1/laiacker...
This is a really cool project! Definitely the most rewarding search I have made recently! I have two questions for you if you don't mind....
1. Did you set out with any objectives other than having a fun flight?
2. If you could do this project again, is there anything you would change such as procedures or general goals?
Thanks. 1. It was a test and preparation for a bigger High Altitute drone project at DLR that is still going. 2. I wrote something about lessons learned in the paper. First of all fix the control oscillations we had at high speed. Today we could build a smaller plane and save a lot of money for the big balloon. The initial small drag parachute was not needed for stability. Maybe go a bit higher next time and do loop;)
Nice flight! Congrats
What FPV system do you use? It's really great analog video.
Best fpv at stratosphere. I have seen several other videos but this one is the best.
Question: the ballon took u 67 km away from the GS. Did u flew the plan back manually or you had RTL mode to navigate?
We had a mission to fly back automatically. The weather forecast predicted that we would drift north so we could plan accordingly. But we also did some manual FPV flying but only very short. The flight was mostly automatic down to about 100m before touch down.
Takeoffs are optional - landings are mandatory.
Very cool project!
Thanks a lot and yes it was cold up there.

awesome,
amazing 👏👏👏
Thant you. Yes it was amazing. Beeing up there in the north in Kiruna and at this altitude and having the plane back in intact at the take off point. Amazing!
Wow. Did you ask for airspace authorisation? You were up into airliner territory!
It is a restricted area up there where they launch balloons and sounding rockets often. That's why we did the experiment at Kiruna
nice
Thank you. It was a nice flight and a great achievement.
How long was the flight after the drop?
The video is in real time so you could watch and wait until the landing but i can also spoiler the ending and we landed happily after about 1:20h i think
Why are all this videos edited what are you hiding?
What do you mean? Its the real time video, nothing hidden. Its just that the gopro cameras run out of battery during the flight. We included the recorded analog video down link until the landing.
@@mlaiacker I do not believe you.
You are hiding the aliens :))
