This feels like an intro to a zombie apocalypse movie
To be fair this is probably about as close as we will ever come to a zombie apocalypse. Unless something like Ebola (with a fatality rate between 60 and 95 percent depending on the strain,) grows longer legs and evolves to spread much faster than it does.
It also goes to show how absolutely fucked the world would be if a real zombie plague appeared. With how slow the reaction was by most countries, and how people panicked over a much less sevear virus, imagine the panic the living dead would produce.

Bob Smith no one said the mortality rate is high because of the disease. If 20 people had the disease, sure maybe only 4 would get critical enough to die. But when its thousands, the 2%makes a hige number that health facilities are generally not equipped to handle which is what causes more deaths.
Bob Smith 2% of the worlds populations is a few million people. If that was the casualties from any other natural disaster, we would be powerless.
But If we have the ability to prevent that, why wouldn’t we?
Also, the 2% number is only a liberal estimate at this point. We don’t know what we are dealing with, in terms of reinfection rates, etc.

We got wildlife back, that I haven't seen in years. Air in the city is much cleaner and the noise level went down drastically. Got a new favourite park, that was unenjoyable before. Love to see the decline in traveling and commuting and will definitely keep it up independently of any pandemic.

2020 was so strange for me in many ways; coupled w/ the pandemic I moved to France to be with my partner at the time in January 2020 (flying with zero restrictions and concerns), later that same year as the pandemic raged, the village I lived in was hit by a once in a century natural disaster, wiping out 20% of the village. I still can't wrap my mind around 2020. It left me in a daze and nearly a year has passed.

And the thing that scares me the most, that really takes away my sleep, is that we are eons from being prepared to a pandemic. COVID-19 as a virus, is rather harmless in the global scale, let's take 100 million people, the deceased would be around 2-4 million tops. What if a real proper evil virus, bacteria or something appeared, something way more lethal, way more contagious? This is the nightmare fuel I'm constantly fearing about.
I think Coronavirus is the closest thing to a nightmare we can get actually. A highly deadly virus (like ebola) will not be as dangerous, because it kills people before it spreads. Corona is extremely contagious, and also has a high death rate within vulnerable groups.
I think we will suffer PTSD for a long time.

This makes me so emotional. I live in Italy, fortunately in the southern area,that's been less hit by the coronavirus. But thinking of all those people that died,the doctors that work 24h 7 days a week for the sick ones makes me cry. Our government however makes great efforts to help those of us who can't work. Please donate if you can to institutions that help sick ones.

I'm Italian and at the time of the first wave of Covid the pandemic hit us hard, really hard. I can still remember what happened to Bergamo, Lombardy, where a convoy of 30 military trucks had to take the coffins away because the city's graveyard was full. Of course, this is just one of the many similar cases that happened around the world, not only in Italy, but at the time the situation was really bleak.
As a student living alone who is already spending his time at home except for occasionally visiting cources, buying groceries and working out, the changes that are occurring right now are nearly unnoticeable to me. If I wouldn't read the news so frequently which I have always done, I wouldn't have noticed any changes exapt for my gym closing as it is the summer holiday season.
My situation is pretty much like yours, and I feel the same way, wouldn't have noticed much change if I didn't read the news

Star Eyes. Most developed countries use equipment with emissions control devices that keeps things burning cleaner. It's the under developed you need to worry about. They are the ones that use machines with no emissions on them. Hell China still uses steam trains on a daily basis as if it new technology.

I remember taking an overpass of I-35 near downtown Austin at 5pm in late March of 2020. I maybe saw 5-10 vehicles total on a highway that would commonly be 6 lanes of bumper-to-bumper traffic. It was surreal. Despite the politically divisive topic the pandemic has become in the US, there *was* a moment where nobody knew what was going on and everybody was afraid. That's important to remember.
The Pandemic was also a blessing for nature, pollution and emissions were at an all time low during quarantine.

ww3 US, Japan, SKorea, EU, Briton, India, Japan and Canada vs China, Russia, NK, and Iran. Mexico gets taken over by cartels as does most of Central America. We stay out of nuclear war hopefully but the EU falls to Russia causing a gigantic power struggle but it's wakened political power among the people leads to a power struggle between the Germans and the Russians as to who will rule the new nation. China takes the Koreas but looses land to India as does Iran. The US cought between The newly founded Federation of Narcos and China is forced to give up Texas parts of California and the pacific Islands. This leads to a longer war between the US and Narcos that ends with the annexation of Mexico by the US.
While China expends vast numbers of troups to gain it's victories most nations aside from those badly beaten have relatively few casualties with exception to the border states of the EU who bare the brount of active combat.
India uses it's northern mountainous terrain to it's advantage seeing little loss of life.
Canada comes out virtually unscathed. It's location protects if from land invasion and it's neighboring allies protect it from the brunt of air attacks.
This war will become known as the last war because the next world war will have no survivors. This war would take place shortly after power struggle between German and Russian politicians reaches a boiling point causing civil war and ultimately every nuclear weapon in Europe is fired inward upon itself causing global winter and devastation on a global scale.
@Chris B. Funny thing that you mention India and China because they have a militarized border dispute going on right now. And the US & EU are backing India in the conflict. So maybe there might be one heh.
