I’m from Bangalore and I’m so jealous to see dedicated cycling lane and greenery in Chandigarh. It’s a great city, please take care! Bangalore was like this but now it is a concrete jungle like Noida or Gurgaon.

At once,I have visited this city. This is really beutiful. I have visited Punjab also, but in the Punjab there are only crops every where, no natural forest and Bio diversity. Every where is Human presence wich has been polluted all the soil, water and air by pasticides and fertilizers.

I'm living in Chandigarh from last 30 years. The major issue is increasing population of Vehicles. Govt should set up any limit on vehicles. Because most of the families in Chandigarh owning more than two cars.
Chandigarh is for rich people and the middle class of Chandigarh suffer the most because of its expensiveness. A chunk of youth come from neighbouring states and youth of Chandigarh found very hard to find a job. Nor the administration takes looks up the basic nessssities to be easily available for middle class of Chandigarh.

As someone born and raised in the city, I csn tell you that its a completely destroyed city now. Official population is about 15 kakhs (estimated 2024) but the 50 kms radius from the city centre (as the crow flies) has a population of over 50 lakhs now. Since all of them are depending on the city for education, health employment, entertainment etc, the city is bursting at its seams. Plus the mad craze for cars (878 cars per 1000 people) has ruined everything further. The city has seen an exponential growth in the number of slums (euphemistically called colonies here) in the last 20 years. There are about 15 such large slums in the city, each with population over 50k. Most urban villages falling under MC, which were supposed to be low population density spots, are now densely populated slums. And this is just the story of the cuty limits. Just outside the city limits there has been a huge growth in construction. All around the city are several villages of Punjab and Haryana who call themselves locals. Add to that the thousands of poorabiya migrants that have made our city a slum centre. You can imagine how bad the situation is.

And in few cases you have to take these roads to reach the main road which means the city is totally unplanned and inorganically structured. At least Delhi and Mumbai are not reeling under water scarcity pressure lie Bng is.
it is fault of present and past govt. that they underestimated the growing traffic issues of/in Chandigarh. I live here and getting stuck while commuting is miserable. No parking space in markets, waiting for so many minutes at the traffic lights. Things are still getting worse, the *only solution to this problem is* "High Quality Public Transport". High frequency and all the facilities should be there. Government should promote it and personal vehicle taxes should be increased, only then this problem can be solved, otherwise nothing will help. I am damn sure about it.

2:12 कई दशकों का समय, कड़ी मेहनत और हजारों किस्सों के राज, ऐसे विशाल वृक्ष के हृदय में छिपे होते हैं। मुझे ऐसे विकास से घृणा है जो वृक्षों के काटने से होता हो। भले वो विकास भव्य हो, भावी आवश्यकता हो लेकिन उसके तुल्य हम अपने इतिहास, भूगोल, पीढीयों की धरोहर को तो नहीं त्याग सकते। हाँ अगर विकास इतना आवश्यक है तो पहले उस तकनीक पर काम करें जहाँ इन वृक्षों का सही सही स्थानांतरण किया सके। और हाँ यह तर्क निरर्थक है कि इन प्राचीन पेड़ो के बदले नया वृक्षारोपण किया जाएगा। क्योंकि हमारी जैसी जाने कितनी पीढियाँ आकर चली जाएँगी तब जाकर वे पौधे यह विशाल रूप पा सकेंगे। यदि विकास का झोंका फिर न आया तो।

Flyovers should be built in extreme traffic conditions. But Govt & Local bodies are building flyovers everywhere because everybody is making money with this. 🙄

I have visited Punjab also, but in the Punjab there are only crops every where, no natural forest and Bio diversity. Every where is Human presence wich has been polluted all the soil, water and air by pasticides and fertilizers.

I'm living in Chandigarh from last 30 years. The major issue is increasing population of Vehicles. Govt should set up any limit on vehicles. Because most of the families in Chandigarh owning more than two cars.

Chandigarh is for rich people and the middle class of Chandigarh suffer the most because of its expensiveness. A chunk of youth come from neighbouring states and youth of Chandigarh found very hard to find a job. Nor the administration takes looks up the basic nessssities to be easily available for middle class of Chandigarh.

As someone born and raised in the city, I csn tell you that its a completely destroyed city now. Official population is about 15 kakhs (estimated 2024) but the 50 kms radius from the city centre (as the crow flies) has a population of over 50 lakhs now. Since all of them are depending on the city for education, health employment, entertainment etc, the city is bursting at its seams. Plus the mad craze for cars (878 cars per 1000 people) has ruined everything further.
The city has seen an exponential growth in the number of slums (euphemistically called colonies here) in the last 20 years. There are about 15 such large slums in the city, each with population over 50k. Most urban villages falling under MC, which were supposed to be low population density spots, are now densely populated slums.
And this is just the story of the cuty limits. Just outside the city limits there has been a huge growth in construction. All around the city are several villages of Punjab and Haryana who call themselves locals.
Add to that the thousands of poorabiya migrants that have made our city a slum centre.
You can imagine how bad the situation is.

And in few cases you have to take these roads to reach the main road which means the city is totally unplanned and inorganically structured. it is fault of present and past govt. that they underestimated the growing traffic issues of/in Chandigarh. I live here and getting stuck while commuting is miserable. No parking space in markets, waiting for so many minutes at the traffic lights. Things are still getting worse, the *only solution to this problem is* "High Quality Public Transport". High frequency and all the facilities should be there. Government should promote it and personal vehicle taxes should be increased, only then this problem can be solved, otherwise nothing will help. I am damn sure about it.
