      I suppose the actress just smiled "without it raching the eyes" - which often has a low-key uncanny / creepy effect. If the AD's director says " alright, this is fine. " then it goes on the air. ^^;

Hello. 90's kid from the Philippines here. I'm one of the people who saw the commercial. My opinion about the woman is that she was just look uncanny for me instead of scary. I've seen a lot of scariest Filipino commercials in the 90's (*cough* Charitas Manila commercials *cough*), and this flower shop commercial is the least scary for me.
EDIT: I'm 100% sure it was not Cita Astals. Cita was pretty well-known (not a huge star kind of way, but she keeps appearing as a supporting character) in the 90's. Most celebrities in the Philippines, especially in the way back, usually introduce themselves while promoting a product or put their name beside them

A lot of people online say that Fillipino commercials are weird or "scary" and a lot of attention has been given to "lost scary commercials" from the Phillipines.
I realized if you showed a Fillipino person some of the commercials that aired in the US back in the day (Lamisil Digger the Dermophyte, Eagle Insurance, and Energy Hog) they would probably react the same way.

We have contacted the family behind Encarnacion Bechaves, and they were also finding the commercial too! We are also finding a lot of VHS tapes rn, but still no Encarnacion Bechaves/RA Homevision, the latter of which i suggest to make a video because it is as interesting as Bechaves.

Of course it is. Everyone always remembers everything far worse than it actually was. It's alluring to us to feel like our memories are more interesting than they actually were. It gets us attention, makes us liked and fuels things like this. It's part of the human mind to want to feel special.

When I got a chance to see it again as an adult, it wasn't nearly as bad as I remembered. I’m also inclined to believe the scare factor was a result of “kid logic” and there was something uncanny about the woman that scared kids for reasons they couldn’t articulate at the time. When I was a kid, I was terrified of the Martians on Sesame Street. Not so scary now as an adult but I was able to identify why I found them so unsettling back then.

The random “sad woman” from the opening credits of Goosebumps absolutely terrified me as a little kid. I still adore the show to this day, and because of that, I’ve seen it more than enough times to not find it scary anymore. You absolutely hit the nail on the head about “uncanny” things just being terrifying for a kid’s overactive imagination.

I say somebody definitely thas it recorded somewhere, just probably happens to be someone who has no idea this commercial is sought after.
Honestly one of the most intriguing lost commercials in my opinion, considering it was already discussed long before lost media and lost commercials were even widely discussed online and people remember so many details about it - and the fact that you can just ask your Filipino family members about it shows it's definitely not a mass misremembering or an elaborate troll, yet nobody has it yet.
I can definitely see this commercial not being as scary as people remember. I was afraid by the most random scenes on TV as a kid. Like, I'd always hide behind a couch every time the scene in live action 101 Dalmatians where one of the bad guys gets car exhaust all over his face and a walnut in his mouth, I have no clue why it was so scary to me. Likewise an episode of Scooby Doo with the ghost of Geronimo. I think people were possibly unsettled by the woman just not looking like how you'd expect her to look on a commercial or on TV in general, if her hair was unkept, etc.

It's funny how memory works, especially when you're a kid. My mom always remembered "a commercial" that had a woman brushing her hair but you couldn't see her face. She turns around and it turns out to be a skeleton. My mom would always run out of the room when it played. Turns out, after I tried looking for it, it was actually a small ad/trailer for the 1977 movie Suspiria.

That was me as well! I was 5 years old in 1977 when this aired on KMEX channel 34 in Los Angeles in....EVERY...DAMN...COMMERCIAL...BREAK and when it did, I would run out of the room in terror when the woman turned around to reveal her face and a scary voice would say "that would mean the end of YOUUUU!!!" I finally saw Suspiria late at night in the early 1990's when I was around 20 years old and when the scene came where the camera panned down to reveal Sarah's bloodied corpse with WIDE OPENED EYES, I screamed like a little bitch and hid under the covers. I took a peek and her face was still staring back at me, so I screamed some more! That was the scariest movie that I've ever had the misfortune of watching and I NEVER want to see it again!

HIGHLY personal case of lost media of my own- There were these DVDs that I believe only went into circulation in Canada. (I’m in NL myself) I had about 2 or 3 of these… I remember I got them as Christmas gifts. They were called “Children’s Theatre”. There’s very little info online about them aside from the scattered box art. These came in volume sets. 1, 2, etc. I’m not sure just how many were made but all the box arts are some cheap, tacky and CREEPY as hell looking clip art, and the one thing that absolutely stuck out to me as a kid on every one of them is the ugly jester on the top. They all featured (from what I remember) creepy, experimental shorts that ranged anywhere from the mid 60’s to early 80’s, similar to the vein of Sesame Street. I don’t remember much of what happened in them but a little black boy skipping around while some really trippy stuff was going on, I believe there were video filters over him and it looked very disturbing, and then I remember there was this one animation… I don’t even remember what it was but it truly disturbed me in a way I can’t even describe, I remember the distinct feeling it left me with, almost sickening. It was a trippy Sesame Street-esque animation that I cannot even remember the details about… But all I know is that it scared the shit out of me so hard I never ever touched the DVD again and it just got scratched up and thrown out eventually over the years. I had kind of just brushed it off as something trippy I saw as a kid and nothing more until when I was working at my local goodwill centre recently and I saw like 2 more of them. I hesitated to get them because I didn’t want my co-workers thinking I was nuts… But they were gone the next day. I was kinda pissed… These DVDs are ALL lost media and as far as I’m concerned I’m the only one who actively wants to find them. Their footage is nowhere to be found online, I’ve checked absolutely everywhere. Only some box arts, not sure if all of them are online. I am so mad that I had the chance recently to save 2 of them but didn’t. From what I can tell these DVDs are very very rare… If anyone has them at all… PLEASE upload them because I’m absolutely dying to see what terrified me as a child. All I know is that it was contained somewhere within the first 5 volumes. It was seriously some creepy ass throwaway content/Peppermint Park type stuff. I don’t know if any puppets were used but I wouldn’t be surprised. I also wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of it was content from Pinwheel. But I really wanna see what the hell some out of touch 80 something in a suit thought was a good idea to call “children’s theatre.” I received these from a particularly sketchy friend of my mother’s in 2012, but I’m not sure when these went into production. Merry Christmas Shaii!! If I can trust anyone to get the most obscure of the obscure lost media out to the public it’s you

Actually, the hunt for this commercial was detrimental to the fame of the flower shop. The shop was harassed both online and the review sites. The shop's review section in Google Maps was full of those obsessed with this commercial.
It was so much overexposed, our group expert in the Lost and Obscure Media FB Group decided to delete any mentions of this subject manner.
I pity the flower shop who does excellent products, to be harassed by these "seekers". Most of the members of that group agreed to our shared sentiment that Encarnacion Bechaves commercial hunt wasn't helping the shops, instead dragging it down like a heavy rock chained on the shop's neck.

Encarnacion Bechaves is a small business. I think they never thought this will become what it is now. So it's convincing that they won't have a copy. Filipinos were never really particular when it comes to film preservation. I'm sure the old TV chnannels will have a copy but it's possible they have lost it or it was damaged.
I have a faint recollection about that commercial. I can't remember exactly what's in it but ot was aired a lot back then. I wish I paid more attention. Flower shop commercials never interested me.

Back in the early days of UA-cam, there was this channel called Nintendodsg (I think it was called) who uploaded speedruns and stuff. I distinctly remember watching this 16 star spreedrun of SM64 back in 2008, which was one of the first videos I watched. my theory about why it was perceived as scary stems from a few key details. it’s stated that there was a light behind the woman in the shot. so in addition to her hair being unkept. the light source illuminated up her stray hairs and cast a shadow on her face, giving that “witchy” look. good chance she looked right into the camera giving that feeling of being watched. and with the whole looking up the camera thing on a black background, it likely had unintentional horror moving pacing

There were a lot of creepy commercials in the Philippines back then as mentioned in some comments. I like to point out a toothpaste(?) commercial where a girl keeps eating cakes and sweets but didn't brush her teeth and she became monstrous in appearance and frightened everyone who attended her birthday.
Another one which I think only aired in our region was just a picture of Grim Reaper standing and behind him were distant hills and text that says something but I don't remember anymore. What made it haunting was the background electric guitar music that today reminds me of Red Weed in Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds musical. I think it was a warning for something but I don't know. WOW, that was really scary, never thought of this commercial could be lost throughout the years, saying that it was around the 90s, if it's really found, hopefully I won't get goosebumps of this creepy lost tv, which I do, but hopefully not LoL.
Also in second, You know what really missing? I wasn't in around the 90s as a grown up nor a young teenage, but I was born around the 90s less, but I couldn't point my finger, because? There was a lost commercial broadcast show that I couldn't find it on in internet or on UA-cam, and it's a talent show or a competition that's called " Brown Bags to Stardom " which is located in Hawaii around the 90s ( Do anyone or anybody remember this show ). It's not because I know, I found few songs cover of BBTS, probably might have seen this around 7 months ago, but I wasn't focus on the show when I suddenly saw UA-cam videos brought me here, it's a old song that I have never even heard of this in a long time, a very heart warming/ emotional song that's called " I'll Always be your Friend" By a young singer name Lorie Salvatera, that's when I found it on UA-cam, with a few other songs has been around in the late 2010s ( her first single album is "It's a Groove Thing" ). but unfortunately, she has a few other songs that went missing through out the years, which is know a lost media. But, there's hope for that, because a UA-camr ( name Ka Lahui o Hawai'i Nei ) who's Uploads old songs from 70s, 80s 90s, & 2000s, has now have an album with him and he did, few of them has now been found, but still 4 others hasn't been uploaded yet, but still excited. But I do notice when I saw a covered that says BBTS, because Lorie was participant of that show ( Which is a image that shows LS is in front of the cover ) with a few other artists talented in there as well. Whatever happened to the Hawaii talent show ( where is the few artists go, why nobody ever mention about this broadcast, including Lorie Salvatera's Lost Album/songs & maybe a lost music video of her, U never know? ) that wasn't appeared on UA-cam? I actually noticed there is a channel that's called " Brown Bags " which wasn't on a full footage of that on their YT channel? Also, I even asked LSuperSonicQ, to talk about the singer and the lost show as well, as soon as possible ( which he has confirmed my request, and he will mention in a few months on 2024 ). Whoever has it or anyone noticed the show that has been recorded on live television around that year. Please uploaded as soon as U or anyone can, to see the old show of BBTS singers & the singer Lorie Salvatera singing her 3 songs on live performs ( never before seen ), I will be so happy see this mysterious show when it's released/found in UA-cam. Including a lost commercial as well? I know I write it to long / slow, because I was speaking on my recording speaker, due to my learning disability, but I still a bit write stuff. Just like with Cracks and Clockman. I myself was TERRIFIED as a child by the green slime on You Can't Do That on Television. I found it so scary that I wouldn't even watch Nickelodeon. Thats nothing compared to 1975's "Beyond the Door" tailer. It would air without warning, in the middle of the day, sending many kids running from television to their parents, crying.
She also would look into camera saying "whoooooareyouuuuuu!"

As someone who grew up in the 90s, I can’t remember this commercial. But i know I recorded some episodes of beakman’s world on RPN9. The tapes are in my parents’ house. I hope the tapes are still good. Only problem is we don’t have a working VRC to play these tapes.

15:39 fun [probably] fact, I heard that this woman Cita Astals has faded into obscurity and is now living alone and a bit crazy. She had tried to run for some government office but lost, and her loss affected her badly. People say she is sometimes seen and heard talking to herself in her house.

The Advertising Standards Council(ASC) are no idea about this lost commercial so they researched on going about the creepy commercial

I also remember a PSA in the Philippines about a homeless guy/teen and his stomach is burning. Also, another one that seems like a PSA but its like a sewer or something and all you can hear is like water dripping and will end in zipper or zipping sound. Sorry cant recall much but that scares me back then. I think twas around 1996 or 1997.

I can't... process stories like this. Back in the 90s, this region was in war and tv showed dead people of all ages broadly in order to inspire people to join the war effort. All kids were exposed to it. And then you get "i saw a lady with flowers on tv and cried". It's very hard to reconcile the fact that different people had different experiences in life and therefore will react to different things differently. Dumb, I know. But it is what it is.

That woman has a morena face with wavy hair and a creepy smile, she slowly lift the rose to her face while fading to black with the logo slowly shows up. Tena i still remember it, its a full close up of her face for a 3-5 seconds.
Yes, it was a nightmare for me as a kid and until now i still remember it.

On an unrelated note, there are plenty of Ytps that have gone off the face of the internet as far as I know. One being a KotH YTP based on the "Junkie Business" episode. I do vividly remember Daft Punk's Derezzed being parodied near the end of the video, but I can't recall the name of the video for the life of me, I assume its one of the Ytps that didn't survive the copyright purge of Ytps.

What makes it difficult is this commercial was aired on secondary channels like IBC-13 and RPN-9. I do remember this on ABC-5 as well which was one of the "big" channels. But I don't recall GMA nor ABS-CBN airing this, I guess mostly because they're not into 80's style commercials and they're trying to be more "hip" and "modern" (and airing commercials there costs a lot of money)

I think remember seeing this as a kid. Usually during commercial breaks when animes are on, dragonball z, that "takore show" aka time travel tonkedaman! anime (we were flooded with bad dubs during that time). I think the last I've seen it was during the infamous "bad yu yu hakusho dub" where yusuke is called eugene, kurama as dennis, kuwabara as alfred and hiei as vincent. Gotta say, it was really creepy AF, gives you goosebumps not just because of the model, but the voiceover and its got that really old video vibe where colors are really off, has that yellow tinge which certainly adds to the overall creepy vibe. I remember the feeling. It's like watching a video of a person that you know is dead.

Was it really that scary? I never saw this version, I always saw the darker one, with Enya playing in the background. There was also that other commercial for video rentals. Saw all this while watching late-night month-old reruns of WWF on RPN-9 or ABC-5

Im sure it's really not a scary commercial at all, as someone say if anything the lady might just look a bit uncanny accidentally. But for this commercial and all other found medias that turned out to not be scary at all, it's for sure just kid brain being way too imaginative. its easy to remember how easily we could get scared by shows and stuff as kids. Everyone got traumatized by dumbo's dream sequence!
