The aliens countdown timer expires as David flies in Air Force One and the aliens launch strikes in major cities.
"This movie gave an action sequence to a dog!"
And that's the brilliance of this movie; on paper, it sounds silly but watching it, you're on the edge of your seat.
People who didn't lived it can't understand how much of an event this film was when it was released.
They released a very spectacular teaser, almost a year before its release that had people waiting with anticipation for almost a year.
AND it wasn't THAT expensive (around $75M) because Emmerich came from far smaller budgeted "genre" films and knew how to shoot in ways it costed more than they actually did.
In comparison, the same summer were released Twister ($92M budget), Mission Impossible 1 ($80M), The Rock ($75) or Eraser ($100M),...
This movie was one of the most awesome experiences I ever had in Cinema. It was so god damn good!
A few things...
First of all, the dog (or cat, in Moonfall) ALWAYS survives in a Roland Emmerich film, and in most disaster movies (one of the reasons Burton killed the dog in Mars Attacks).
The guy in the office was part of an abandoned subplot about a crooked firm trying to make money from the events.
The scene with the fire truck in the air was supposed to end with it crashing into a Stargate movie poster (Emmerich 's previous film). But the director decided this private joke was ultimately bad taste and edited it out.
I'm glad that at least 2 reactors mentioned that guy at the office filing paperwork. Like WTF are you doing there, dude?
"Yeah, sure, alien invaders, but if I don't get these accounts finished by Monday, Keith is gonna kill me."
Like the people in a swimming pool at midnight in Poseidon or the kids playing baseball at 8 AM on a Sunday morning in Pearl Harbor.
World might end. World might not. If I live, I got a boss to answer to.
Me getting the same 30 minute head start as everyone else to evac the city. I'd probably stay and check it out.
I have fond memories of the advertising campaign that preceded the release of the film. On July 2nd there was a special on the Fox Television network, a kind of "War of the Worlds" style news broadcast. With specially filmed scenes featuring a few of the background characters. Also I remember buying some of the toys including the Alien fighter craft that came with a CD of a flight simulator game.
Those spaceships essentially nuked 36 cities causing millions of deaths and all the reactors are concerned about the dog.
"Boomer will live!"
The guy on Cinepals annoys the hell out of me. The weird thing is I can't explain why.
He intimidates you with his aura.
Just Trust Ash is the one I can't stand.
A couple of his vids in the past had him leaping around the room squealing like a toddler and he ended up elbowing his girlfriend across the head and near ripped her earring out.
Another one he grabbed her by the head and started forcibly rocking her back and forward while screeching.
He does that crap all the time and she always ends up pissed off.
Yeah Boomer…. Nothing against Retrievers but they are not meant to be rocket scientists 😂😂😂
