Dude this video is so amazing I haven’t put it into practice yet but this is such a good mental guide for being safe when party mode isn’t an option tysm
I really like how you combine tutorials with a tight focus on a single setup with a broader context based in theory and fundamentals. Really good stuff.
A common yoshi setup is df1,4 on hit into cd1. A lot of good players try to step and they get clipped. Some players mash and get hit. Some players block the cd1 and try to punish, but the pushback on block makes it whiff and you can whiff punish with df2.
You are describing a behavior of opponents which are either lower level of play or unaware of the matchup. With a dash block every character in the game can launch you for that. A good setup is defined by perfect risk reward = reacting to your opponents mistakes. In this example you give the opponent the perfect setup to react to your mistakes.
As a yoshi main, im happy to know that im on the right track. I happen to rely on backdash whiffs to df2's on tight situations. Regarding those earlier examples, those flow charty setups still works on high level, but only when used sparingly. Even when they know the matchup, you can still condition them adding to your mixup game. Anyways, very nice tip dude!
since skilled opponents can react to a sword sweep with a hop kick for example, there is no mixup at all. If it works 1 out of 10 times, it means that your opponent couldn't react quick enough. I would not rely on these strats to impove myself. Sword sweep is still nice to have for oki at the wall, but not so much in neutral.
@@manjidojo6001 5 months later, I stand corrected. As I climb higher through ranked, I almost never actually used the sword sweep flowchart. I found that backdashing neutralizes almost all of yoshi's high risk high reward setups(outside of wall tech catch scenarios), it's better to just poke/sidestep/backdash instead.
wish me luck, maybe with this tips i'll finally make it out of purple rank, it feels like i've stuck in there forever, getting constantly killed by high level armor kings, dragunovs even lars and whatnot
the solution for me to get out of these ranks was to be more patient. In purple ranks most players kill themselves by whiffing and swinging unsafe stuff. Good movement and anti ping pong (see my tutorial on that) will make you more patient and give you more opportunities to learn and punish.
@@manjidojo6001 This is what I'm trying to do. I've been in purple ranks for a bit and I definitely play too aggressively and am too impatient. Glad to know that what I'm doing now is what helped you make the next breakthrough when you were in the same spot! Gonna keep on the grind!
Amazing video. This really opened up my gameplay. Especially in high ranks.

Sick video, Manji Dojo best Yoshi knowledge.

thanks buddy! Well observed, I actually sell fundamentals as setups and gimmicks to cure the suffering of party animal Yoshis.
👌
this just solid tekken
That's so good to learn high level Yoshi, thanks !
Not kidding... Charge for this. This is sound advice
Came to watch Yoshi setups, walked away with solid fundamentals instead
Lee dash up works on wiff to 4 u 3 into 2 2 4

2:15 IDK why but most of the people mash after being hit with SS1, it annoys me XD
why do this when you can just FLASH ( good vid though , newb yoshi main rising steadily here )
because doing flash is risky. At high level people will wait for you to flash and then launch you.
this strategy is beaten by throws
Throws don't reach after pushback and are hard to connect if your opponent is using movement well.
