Omgggg Ive been trying to tell the mechanics about this but do they listen to women? So glad to find this complete video, TY! I know this is the culprit!
Just had this problem over the weekend on a 2004 Astro. Went out yesterday and it fired up, but I'm going to replace everything Wires, plugs and dist. Thanks for the info.
@@addvancedgarage Somewhat confused by that comment - I actually had this on my list for spring updates to my 98' LS. Are you saying Brass isn't necessarily the best choice - or that perhaps the brass being used in the replacement caps now is low quality?
@@addvancedgarage Weird - I wonder if it is just an airflow difference on the van body. Mine was an 88 S-10 (Tahoe package/Extended cab) and I got at least 50k on my brass one and I know it was still in good condition when I sent the truck to the crusher.
@@thisislandearth I’m saying replacing the cap and rotor is only a temporary fix if your distributor gear is worn and you have enough play. The spark will happen a bit late and the distance gets too large. Also tune up grease I’m hoping helps out
SMART guy. One of the few guys that knows what dielectric grease is used for. NOT on electric contacts! It prevents electric flow. I know,,,,, "I use it on contacts and don't have a problem". Doesn't make it correct.
I don’t have an Astro but I do have one of those head torches. I concur, they are great. I hope you have an affiliate link and we will all buy from that! Great stuff as ever. 🇱🇺
Always good to see improvement videos on the Safari/Astro's. I did a LS swap on my '01 Safari AWD. Had to do a 3". in the process now putting in 4:10 gears in both the front and rear differentials so I do not lose any pulling power after putting on new 30" tires. What caught my eye on yours is the touch screen head drive unit. Was this in the van already or did you install it? If so can you share lessons learned etc?
I have everything filmed for the install, I'll try to get that edited in a few days, it's a pioneer unit, forget which model. LS sounds amazing with an AWD but from what I've been reading it's a giant PITA. What kind of mileage are you getting? I was planning to go vortec 5.7 since it seems like a lot less work.
@@addvancedgarage Lots of engine control management wiring. AWD scares most people away from it but was still doable and it actually looks OEM fit. I think I get close to 17+ combined MPG which is better than the Vortec, but I am not good at keeping my foot out of it lol
@@richardsilva5134 That's awesome. Did you go stand alone? I know there's a million LS wiring solutions out there but I don'tknow how well they'd integrate into the astro itself.
My 2004 dies run but gets yo a point it just. Ranks over n not start then after a few days it might start like it's doing n then it starts again please help
people focus way tooo much dielectrics insulating properties. it doesn't take much to break through and make contact. i use it on rj45 / ethernet connectors. but, it would be to test a cap sometime and slathering it in on test stand/vehicle sometime
I really don't have anything to say, but you did ask me to leave a comment, so here it is.
Appreciate it! Lol.
Welcome boys and GIRLS.
My bad!
I have the stock seats and removing the doghouse is still a PITA.

The brass is 100% the right choice. I did the same on my 4.3L in my S-10 and once I made that switch it never gave me another problem.
I've gone through 2 brass ones so far.

My 2001 Astro van died on a 100 mile trip….. distributor failed. Got replaced…Starts great now!

Just a tip on the firewall you can use your tire tools too.. I have the same year model and same layout without the heater.
First step to working on an astro anytime the doghouse has to come off, remove at least one seat.
I has a 2005 Astro same issue thanks definitely want to keep it running
Def watch the video where I show you how to adjust your distributor
Nicely done! I am hoping my new distributor also solves the moisture problem. I gets wet in Portland, Oregon. We shall see.

Yeah I'll make like 25 cents on each sale! For real tho they're amazing
Can we have an update on how many miles the new cap & rotor lasted? Thanks!
3000 miles. The center electrode burned out on the rotor. No idea why.
@@ADDvanced thank you!
actually the center rotor snapped off!
@@ADDvancedwhat make was rotor, name?

Thank for the advice

Thanks for this helpful video
Hi I have a astro 96 AWD and I got crankshaft correlation and crankshaft sensor cod what can I do? Thanks for you chanell
Probably crankshaft position sensor (CPS) about $10, take 5 minutes to change, one bolt under the bottom fo the engine near the front
Thanks you
Won't start if bad sensor!!
@@ADDvancedcps $10 where? Auto parts told me $50- $80. Where can I find a good cps for a 95 chevy astro van
gud to know Tks
Put a paint marker before take out dist.!!
And that’s why I’ll take it to the mechanic! Coz if not the van will never start again
😊thanks
Awesome!
Thanks!
spray it with clear flex seal
why not just replace the cap and rotor?
I've done that like 5 times. It always comes back.
But your rotor broke you put on, stainless steel would not brake, never had your issue!!
