i agree but I think he'll help against Tampa more than people realize.. he holds the line very well, very physical, blocks a ton of shots and really helps break up the offensive cycle.. look at the games the Leafs lost and teams they struggle against and they're teams that hem the Leafs in their own zone with a great cycle game.. i think he will fit nicely and develop a great chemistry with Reilly..
Tampa is tough to handle, you’re right, if you’re facing AV you gotta make him move around his crease and force him to make saves because he is gonna come across very quick to make saves.
He kinda is Jake Two now, cuz of the boo, playoffs are one thing, but getting booed at a regular season home game when your team is mathematically still in a solid playoff spot is pretty harsh, no way he's re-signing at a discount after that. He's gone this summer.
@@Beansmorgan88 Exactly. Gardiner most certainly won't sign for less just to get booed in his home rink. He's definitely gone. I predict he'll go to a quiet, small market where nobody will care when he makes boneheaded mistakes. He's taken enough heat to last a lifetime.
@@JM-gj7de for sure, his mistakes may not even matter so much depending on where he goes, think about the fact that during all his years on the Leafs he's never been regularly paired with a strong defensive right shot. You never know man, he could do top pair minutes on a team that actually has one, and probably ramp up on the points while he's at it.
As we are in win-now mode we're not letting go of a top roster player this year. Off-season will be a different story. To make the cap work and keep all the guys we have to sign we might flip Willie in a package that gets us a more economical RD with some grit. Keep an eye on Carolina. They want Willie. I wouldn't be surprised if Kyle told them we'll deal for one of their RD's over the summer if they can't find a better deal this year. If it's not Willie, it'll be a package with Kappy.
@@freeradical3592 - Totally agree and wouldn't be a bit surprised if it unfolds this way. The cap will dictate everything, and there is no way to sign everyone.
I hear this everytime the Leafs trade a pick. It happened almost 30 years ago. Is that how far back you have go to find a trade gaffe made by the Leafs? It’s not even “kind of old”, it’s outright antiquated.
We already got Timmy and Rasmus in deep first round, so we already cashed in in our luck with two guys will prove over longer term to be top 10 in their draft class. I'm OK letting this one go.
@Stash Actually you have a very short memory, Kessel was two 1st round picks. Who are those picks today. Seguin[Cup Champ] and Hamilton. The largest difference of coarse was all those gaffe 1st round surrender's were high draft picks in the 1st round. This will not be one, and they won't be getting anyone close to the calibre of any of those player's [including a Niedermayer]. I still can't help but gulp, every time the Leafs trade away any pick.
The beauty this year is that Hainsey will be fresh going into the playoffs. He'll be solid during the run. Easily see us going deep now because boys, going deep is what it's all about isnt it.
Only guy who should be rotated is Hainsey and hope he can contribute more in the playoffs if he doesn't get moved which I wouldn't mind if he did, but doubtful.
Win-win for both. Leafs get short term certain upgrade with risk of return over long term. Kings get little in short term with chance for substantial upgrade in longer term. In a perfect world we flip Willie in the offseason in a package for an economical RD who plays heavy (e.g. Pesce), sign Kappy and Johnsson for less money combined than what we pay Willie and the rebuild is effectively complete. Legit Cup contender (I didn't say winner) for next 5-6 years.
Hey Steve, what website did you get the player comparisons from? I really liked them. Good trade by both sides, but short term win for your leafs, long term we'll see. Great vid as ever!
Great deal for both teams!!! But the leafs finally get some stability on their d core 🙌🏽. Wonder if Dubas will look at adding one more Dman, maybe Gudas 🤷🏽♂️ or go the gritty forward route Wayne Simmods 🤔
I forgot that LA's AHL team is in the same Division as my Condors until you said leave Grundstrom in the minors. I'd LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE it if Grundstrom got called up and stayed up.
As a Diehard Bolts fan, this worries me. Great GREAT pick up for the Leafs and I’m curious if maybe Gardiner is on the move to sure up the hands side of the rotation.
Great trade on both sides , as a leafs fan you don't really have a better option at this point , we got someone who will help us for the next two years ..
Pretty good deal for both teams, Leafs looking for backstop for their run, Kings looking for the youth. I shudder to think what Chiarelli would have done.
@@UzumakiNaruto_ It's ok this is a win win. Leafs are in cup mode right now so we can afford to give up a forward prospect plus our 3rd best D prospect. And a late first. Leafs did well. like Kaberle well. but we need more and it will be one of our past two first plus a roster player for a solid quarterback D for the PP. Hanifin or Hamilton?
My honest opinion is that the trade is really fair, but as a Leafs fan I question the fact that we had to give up Grundstrom. I think we could’ve given up someone like Timashov instead, who is just slightly worse but has about the same potential.
The value I think is close to equal if the Kings do their job of drafting and developing well. But the kings managment probs should have done better. They are dealing to a weakness of the leafs and buying from their surplus. It felt like the leafs throwing anchors to a sinking team, not vice versa.
As a Kings fan I hate to see such a good player go, but this move was best for everyone. (At least I hope) Gonna miss Muzzles, y’all better win a cup with him.
Hernz Martins You know its not impossible that Zaitzev if not this year maybe next year or the year after finally finds his footing and plays well for us and his contract goes from bad to good all of a sudden.
