Love those old deeres, as a young fella I used to love going for spins on those deeres when the silage contractor would come to the farm in the summer, they were the smoothest comfiest tractor I was ever in and so quiet. They would have been fairly new and fresh then back in the late 80s early 90s.. Love John deeres ever since.
These modern tractor drivers don't know their born. JD 2130, Duncan cab, pulling a Kidd double chop forager, Now that was mind numbing !!! Then came the 3130 & 3140 with the OPU cab. Now that was a tractor ! Showing my age now !! Keep the old stuff coming LM, a trip down memory lane for me :-)
gareth2673) Mind numbing with a four digit model, and with a cab!? Some of us go back to the triple digit, double digit and even the letter series.... Those are what I call mind numbing! Muffler technology and vibration dampening has come a loooong way since then! All in fun. I too enjoy all of the 'Vintage' Deere footage. Take Care Be Blessed!
I concur! Although the ag tractors I ran were open station, I ran Koehring Dumptors in the mining industry. Flat panel steel and no sound deadener with flat glass panels poised directly over a 6-71 Detroit... Loud and hot! Many early cabs had poor ventilation and no A/C irregardless of the industry, and generally a pathetic excuse for a heater. As you stated, "Protection from the elements" was about it. Give me an umbrella for the summer if I can't have A/C and just let me stay in the shop in the winter!
I have a late 3640 with the front prop brake & one of the very last 3650s which i still use on a 4750 hesston.. one of the best tractors ever built (apart from my ford 7000) i love the classics
I can still remember when a friend of mine got his brand new 3040 back in 85 from Tincknells that used to be Don Mcmillans. Don had a lot of good history with John Deere. It's a good modern classic tractor more great viewing again.
Being a hill sheep farm we never had a use for anything that big, that and it isn't red and gray! sounds quite healthy though, punting it through the 'box. Thanks for sharing.
LOl you will get your answer soon My Friend, I am about to start posting about Massey Ferguson/ Agco in the next few days and it has been a Journey. I don't know how they are in the States and UK but man it will be interesting info, I certainly won't be buying any Massey Products ever in the future.
great video mr muck you were talking about the brake on the prop i can remember doin some work experience for a john deere dealer and those 4240 had the same brake on the prop
i was told by a john deere fitter at the time was propably a tractor built to be shipped to another country but made it to england coz i have never seen another one like it but it had a 8 speed powershift but i thought the 4240 only had quad range gearbox
The 3640 has just recently had a new engine, the same 6 cylinder out of the 1075 combine with the turbo running 190hp. The 3050 is a 1984 I believe, 115hp with the turbo aswell
Our 4240s has front brake in prop and also accumulator so you can steer slightly with engine turned off. This is a uk tractor from new but it was imported through Ben burgess for supply.
@LordMuck your right. it's an aftermarket turbo. on the dashboard of the tractor, it has instructions from TB turbos on it. love the video and them old john deers to this day are a joy to drive. my dad also has a 1984 3140 john deere
Outstanding tractor was the 3050, We had six of them back in the late 80s/90s on our arable/spud farm, Two of the first we had was on a D 1986 plate, and those were Turbo fitted by the dealer, (OPICO Turbo) for use on Howard Rotor spikes for spud ground, Then we had to join them a E Reg straight six, And then two later we had a deal from our local dealer (David Quick John Deere at Rushock Worcestershire) for three more 3050s straight six Ex demos" at a reduced price as there company was going bust, Also at the same time we had from them a 4055 for our ploughing tractor too, But overall the 3050 was tried and tested by us for over two decades" and thinking of the two Turbo Deers we had in the fleet" they were also fitted with creeper gears for the power harrows combined with the Turbo gave a great tilth for spuds and Sugar Beet, Problem was the Fuel tank was not large enough, Lol.
@@LordMuck yes m8 they were, also forgot to mention that three out of the six 3050s had a full set of Stocks Duel Wheels too, And that was fun and games going along narrow lanes and narrow gateways, Lol.
If you haven't found out yet, your 3050 is a European Edition with Altitude Compensator(Turbo) and UJ (universal joint) brake. These were installed on tractors below S/N 642163.
Thank you Michael, this is what we suspected but the strange thing is that it is a UK ordered tractor ! With that in mind you would think they would have ordered a 3650 or turbo'd a 3350. maybe there was a good deal going at the time ?
I'm over here in the United States and i work in a apple orchard and i i run a few different tractors and one just happened to be a 3050 with cab and loader at one point in time but now I drive 2640 with a loader and no cab and a 4320 with no cab and a loader and a 4 wheel drive 5525 with a cab and front loader
Here in the Netherlands I saw at least one, it was a 40k with a brake disk and a turbo (kit) and front PTO (the front hitch was made for the 2850 the customer found the hitch for 3350 to heavy)The front brake was not working correctly (sponsy) so we made it brake with mfwd (package) like it was done on the later 50 -series.
There was also a 3350 with the EHR (elektronische hub riegelung) from Bosch in our region. just 1 ! And an other one came frome France, it was a prototype 3350. As I can remember, the front hitch was very heavy built. One of the latest 92, 3650 had a digital dash...
Good video lord muck, my contractor Irfon used to have a j plate 3350 and a M plate 3650, both straight pipe and very noisy! You're right about the classics buggering up your back and ears, they also buggered your left knee from changing gear all day with a heavy clutch. Keep up the good work. Cotlandfarmer
I agree, .....but try the County 1174 for size - that's a heavy clutch ;-) .....I'm talking around 1980 - they did a modification to the linkage which improved things a bit, ......though 28lb of lead in your left boot would have been handy. Keep you a troshing Lord Muck
Strange about the front brakes? The first manufacturer to pioneer front brakes was Lamborghini/Same/Hurlimann which had them fitted from the 1980s. I have seen many 40 series or 50 series deeres but none with front brakes. The 4 wheel drive shaft seems to be more level as opposed to be being as sloped down as others. Good to see you on the Irn Bru. One thing i prefer about the 40 series was that your splitter/dual power was not on the little lever like the 50 seried, but by knocking your 1-2-3-4 stick to the left for low and right for high.
When the plate that slid across the gate used to wear it rattled like a pig ! That's why I preferred the little lever but knocking the splitter across had a certain satisfying quality about it !

I was born in 82. So when I was old enough. I seen a lot of. Tractors. Not keen on the new Tractors. To many computers. To go wrong on them. And you don't even. Have to steer now days it all GPS. Bollacks. .
you will find that most of the 3050's that are fitted with a turbo are 40k and before 1992. This is because the 3650 was not available with the 40k option until 1992 and was the only way to get a 115hp 40k JD. i have seen many propshaft brakes fitted to the 40k models. auto fwd braking was not available at that time
Absolutely lovely 3050, by far the best shape John Deere made in my eyes. I was out with a mate on one of them last year doing some slurry spreading, but it wasn't turbo'd. Don't know whether its the camera not doing it justice, but it sounds like the turbo is muffling the awesome straight 6 Deere barking compared to the naturally aspirated engine.
The nat-asp engines have a deep bellow, the factory turbo's seem to hush that a bit. The aftermarket turbo's were normally straight through and barked like a bastard and were great sounding....... for 10 minutes.
Hi Another unusual tractor you found there It's a shame Don Mcmillans ( Mr JD) is not still around I'd bet he'd probably of known about it's spec . your buddy's a bit of a nutter for making stuff work hard for a living from what we keep hearing !. I got bad memory's of bumping round listening to junk squeak, in that ragged out 2950 at the seed plant from watching you drive this one now. Now it's bed time here in Canada I'm hoping it don't give me nightmares L.O.L. That one had the splitter on one of the gear shifts it just moved sideways in the gate for the high/ low. I saw the 2850 comments, I'm pretty sure thats what Rycotewood college had when I was there in 1990. it was a 4wd with loader possibly from dealers at princess Risborough . There was a Ford 77 or maybe 7810 series 3 from Turneys , and I think a MF3060 from Browns to man my memory's getting bad after all this time. They were all immaculate back then being pretty well new. The only one we were allowed to take apart was the MF for some reason. I always wondered what happened to them when the place closed, it would of been a nice classic collection now. Take care see ya next time.
The contractor dad used in the late 80's and early 90's had several 3050's that were the same spec as this tractor and supplied by a well know Deere dealer in Shropshire.
I've driven lots of 3050's with turbos and they were all like the one in your video with John Deere turbos and manifolds, in fact I can't remember seeing one with an aftermarket turbo. I'm almost certain that the turbo kits were on the John Deere price list at the time. As I said, the contractor dad used had a few, we had one at college and a good friend of mine had at least one of these. They were all 40k, high lift, prop brake. I think, but will stand corrected, that the early 3650's were only 30k, which is why people put the Deere turbos on 3050's. Admittedly, they were all from the same dealer, but I don't think there was anything suspicious going on.
The very first 40k 3050 i remember coming out when new i think was 86 d plate. with the disc on prop shaft . it mib wasnt succesfull as it changed onto 4 wheel braking i think on 87 onwards. And seen quiet a few turboed version of 3050 with i think 1075 combine manifold and mib turbo.
would you believe i used to drive a 1988 JD 2850 40k which also had that front brake,it wasnt much good i thought ,the 2850 was bought new in uk then exported over here to Ireland
I don't know if it means anything and forgot to mention that the serial plate is stamped as 3050 S. Now maybe all the hi lift 40k air con ones are I don't know.
As someone posted, maybe it was destined for another country but somehow got shipped here. Maybe whoever bought it new blew the budget and had factory parts fitted or maybe it really did come from the factory turbo'ed. We'll probably never really know for sure !.
some strange ones out there,a few years ago i was i was in the car following a 3350 doing 50k drawing slurry,i dont thing there was a 50k 50 series, the 3650 i drew silage was only 30k lovely tractor though.
jcb 3cx 98 Hi, there were no 50kph made but there were 40kph 3050s and 3350s. The 40kph 3350s were great however the 40kph 3050s were not so good. They were underpowered for the speed and if you had the wrong man in the drivers seat you'd wear brakes out in half a day sending metal filings through the system. They were not very succesful. As for 50kph, it could be acheived by letting a 40kph tractor rev out to 3000rpm. Wouldnt be adviseable as she would easily drop a valve or blow the head gasket. Not to mention it would be a sucker for diesel. Hope this helped
You could get a 40k Case Maxxum to do 50k by blessing the injector pump with the magic spanner and getting her to rev to 3300rpm which the Cummins would do. Not that I ever did that of course....!
Lord Muck A cummins was bullet proof! One of the very few machines that if you needed 200hp you could buy 150hp MX and screw to 220hp with no lost sleep about the engine taking hurt. Great tractors! Their McCormick counterpart, MTX, same tractor but perkins engine. Not half the tractor of the MX :)
lovly tractor , maybe when new they had a good relationship with the dealer? do they know what dealer it came from, would it be worth a call see if they have any records?
Hello. I have a jd 3350 with engine code 6359 D 822992. Can I mount a turbo on a 6359 TL engine? I know that on some engines it differs d rods. How can I find out what connecting rods I have? possible with a camera? possible from the code?
@@LordMuck Iknow there are two types of pistons and connecting rods on these engines. How can I find out if I have connecting rods with thick or thin bolts? There should be a code somewhere.
I will upgrade them. they have exhaust, intake and turbo galleries. The only problem I have is the size of the connecting rod bolts. I will try to visualize the code of a connecting rod with the help of a stethoscopic camera
I had a 1987 2850 turbo which had the single front brake on the driveshaft. Perhaps it was just fitted in 1987, have a look at the JD parts website and see if it is listed there. jdparts.deere.com/servlet/com.deere.u90.jdparts.view.publicservlets.HomeUnsigned?selectedMenu=JDPARTS_HOME&userAction=countrySelected&country=GB&language=19

my bosses 3050 wasnt turbod but it did have the front brake . it was a e reg uk spec tractor 40k as well what a beast she was

I don't know if it means anything and forgot to mention that the serial plate is stamped as 3050 S.
Now maybe all the hi lift 40k air con ones are I don't know.
The brake seems to have been an option (a good one I reckon) but the factory turbo remains a mystery !
As someone posted, maybe it was destined for another country but somehow got shipped here. Maybe whoever bought it new blew the budget and had factory parts fitted or maybe it really did come from the factory turbo'ed.
We'll probably never really know for sure !.
Well I reckon with a bit of digging we will find the original owner....
I've just had a bit of a search of the number plate and it seems to have been registered in Oxfordshire.
Apart from the turbo, was there any major differences in the jump from a 3050 to a 3350 ? Was there a heavier back-end?
No and a factory 3350 didn't have a turbo. Both were (on spec) naturally aspirated straight 6's.

Ah right, what was the big difference then ?
Slightly less hp really.
Nothing a screw of the pump couldn't sort out, thanks for your help
It was 2 wheel drive though
Good technique. In our village, farmers on such tractors.UKRAINE
some strange ones out there,a few years ago i was i was in the car following a 3350 doing 50k drawing slurry,i dont thing there was a 50k 50 series, the 3650 i drew silage was only 30k lovely tractor though.
jcb 3cx 98 Hi, there were no 50kph made but there were 40kph 3050s and 3350s.
I'll ask as that might be a starting point.
Lord Muck my mate got a 3640 with a front brake and its a 1983 model
Okay so front brake seems to be on some earlier ones but still can't understand the factory turbo
Lord Muck could have been asked for by customer when ordering the tractor
Well yes, more than likely but why not get a 3650 ?
Tengo uno igual sin turbo mi pregunta es si puedo adaptar turbo gracias
It will depend on the hours
Are these always 4x4
No, I used to drive an F reg 3050
Do these have horns
Yes, why wouldn’t they ?
Hello. I have a jd 3350 with engine code 6359 D 822992. Can I mount a turbo on a 6359 TL engine? I know that on some engines it differs d rods. How can I find out what connecting rods I have? possible with a camera? possible from the code?
You may have to change pistons etc. Some got away with it, others didn't.
@@LordMuck Iknow there are two types of pistons and connecting rods on these engines. How can I find out if I have connecting rods with thick or thin bolts? There should be a code somewhere.
They should be stamped. If it is non turbo (so factory spec) then I would think you will need to upgrade.
I will upgrade them. they have exhaust, intake and turbo galleries. The only problem I have is the size of the connecting rod bolts. I will try to visualize the code of a connecting rod with the help of a stethoscopic camera
Nothing compares to the old Deere's with the 40k box Savage tractor's
I have a John deere 3140 I think that there all the same
All 3140's are the same or all 3000 series Deeres ?
Here's one for you , we had a 3150 two wheel drive , with factory fitted turbo, it had some grunt
We only had 3140's up here, the 50's were 30, 33 and 36 but the US had 2955's etc.
Hope you're keeping well.
What hp with turbo fitted.
Factory was around 116hp, aftermarket could be up to 150 !
That's a dry clutch. Could it bale silage if bumped up
Yes, no reason why not.
I know nothing about John Deere tractors. Pretty sure my old 544 loader has a non turbo engine like that tractor.
In reality Mike, that tractor should also be non-turbo.
Take care buddy and go relax beside that lovely river.
I had a 1987 2850 turbo which had the single front brake on the driveshaft. Perhaps it was just fitted in 1987, have a look at the JD parts website and see if it is listed there.

It seems they were fitted for a short time but the main thing was the type of turbo which had been fitted was puzzling us
The engine has to be built strong enough for a turbo from the get-go, putting on a turbo as an after though on an natural aspirated isn't ideal
Did you not watch the video ? It's the same lump as a 3650 (turbo) and has all the same internals and was fitted at the factory.
3350 was turbod
No it wasn't, not from standard. 3350 was naturally aspirated.
5+++
Glad you enjoyed it.
