- Straight, No Chaser is the second album by jazz saxophonist Joe Henderson. It was recorded on April 21, 1968.
Straight, No Chaser (Monk)
Joe Henderson: Sax
Wynton Kelly: Piano
Paul Chambers: Bass
Jimmy Cobb: Drums
Tight.
I like the aggressive take on this tune, Jimmy Cobb destroying those drums
Great stuff- thanks so much for sharing!
Look at Jimmy Cobb... at his dynamic best

Nice! Hadn't heard this one before, but anything where The Greatest Rhythm Section Ever plays live is worth knowing about. Thanks for posting it.
so good. yes, greatest rhythm section. Good with Philly Joe too! But Paul Chambers is the shit. Anyway, love it. Joe is such a great artist. Still under-appreciated IMHO. Well, still waiting for statues and streets to be named after Charlie Parker, so there you go.
Amazing Kelly.
Come on. Xavi and Simon, you're both right. But let's be crystal-clear : Straight No Chaser is indeed the second album after Four!, both issued from the same concert in Baltimore, back in April 1968. It was issued by Verve in 1994 (Four) and 1996 (Straight No Chaser). This extraordinary gig (totally unexpected, as Henderson recalls in the liner notes) was one of his "last" recordings if one considers the fact that it was produced after Joe Henderson had recorded his major output (on Blue Note, Milestone, and Verve). The first album by Joe Henderson as a leader was Page One, the second Our Thing (if one doesn't consider what he recorded with the great Kenny Dorham).
Xavi...Straight No Chaser is not Joe's 2nd album. It's one of his last!!
