I had a 110 pound German Shepherd and Black Lab mix that could pass as a Hovawart. The long fluffy tail, floppy ears, long and wavy body hair in black and tan. The only difference I noticed is my dog had the big lab block head and wider snout. I wish I could post a picture of him on here.
Hi Ms Creek! He sounds like a beautiful dog. Please feel free to email me a picture of your beautiful boy and I would love to pop him on the community page for everyone to admire 🥰 DDandMDpicsandvids@mail.com. Thank you very much for watching, it truly is appreciated.
Yes and yes they are indeed gorgeous. I was recently at a big dog show, and I spent a brief time at the Hovawart ring, the vast majority were Black and Gold, a few Blonde's and I did not see any solid blacks. That's not to say there weren't any there, I may well have just not seen them. I wonder if there's not as many Blacks as the other two colours?
@@dogsdogsandmoredogs870 The population is supposed to be 60% black and tan, 30% blondes, 10% all black. So the breeders and breeding clubs try to keep that in the back of ttheir minds when planning new litters.
I agree, they're really great dogs! I don't know, but I am going to try and find out. If I find anything I'll get back to you. Thank you so much for watching, it really is appreciated :)
@@goblingoblineus928 Hello! This is an interesting question, so I consulted the Breed Standard. It says "Black pigmentation on eye rims, lips and pads.". It states this for all 3 colour varieties. I wonder if this means spots of pigmentation? I had a Curly Coated Retriever (amazing dog), and her grandmother had black spots on her tongue. The breeder pointed this out in case my dog developed them too, she never did. I believe the breeder told me they were just spots of pigmentation on her tongue. Not a fully black tongue like a Chow Chows, but a normal pink tongue with a few black spots. I wonder if this is the same for the Hovawart? Anyway, I hope this helps :)

Great dogs! I am curious to know if a blonde or all black version has ever won.

So far I have found two blonde's, one took best of breed in 1998 and another one in 2008.
@@dogsdogsandmoredogs870 Thank you!
Sorry wrong video lol although I agree, love hovawarts
@@TheLt375 You're most welcome :) I haven't found any solid black BOB's at Crufts yet though.
I know some one that thinks they have a hovawart. Check out "Odie does bone dance" here on UA-cam
I did check it out, I love Odie's bone dance!
@@dogsdogsandmoredogs870 do hovawarts have dark spots on their tongues and mouth?
