The writing on this show is near perfection and season 4 is no exception. The Mike and Gus plotline was suspenseful and intriguing, and the season also introduced Lalo who has become one of my favorite characters in the Breaking Bad universe.

This season’s finale is one of my favorite episodes. I absolutely love the scene where Jimmy tries to give the scholarship to the girl that reminds him of himself. The final scene is incredible too! Saul good man
While Season 4 doesn’t have my favorite Jimmy/Kim plot line, I think this Season contains my absolute favorite Mike/Gus plot line in the series so far. The entire arc with Werner Ziegler and the German engineers is just so well done and fascinating to watch.
In defense of Jimmy, the last thing that chuck said to him was that he didn't care about him, so he can't bring himself to grieve about a man that was so ungreatful and cruel to him, after everything they've been through. I think that deep down he genuinely misses check, but he pushes those feelings away because in his eyes, chuck doesn't deserve it. Also, something worth mentioning is that even though kim helped with huell's case in order to help jimmy, she also really liked doing something wrong for once, which will be heavily explored in the coming seasons
To quote a line from a song by the living legend Madonna: "Only the one that hurts you can make you feel better. Only the one who inflicted the pain can take it away." Since Chuck died before Jimmy could win his approval and love, Jimmy was stuck living out his life with Chuck's ghost in his head and heart. Jimmy could win over anyone but his own big brother.
I think this was Mike's best season. I also like how the show somehow still manages to make us feel chuck's presence during jimmy's arc even tho he's not in it.
Loving your Better Call Saul reviews. In particular I appreciate you picking up on the metaphors (that other TV series don't seem to do), for example the coffee mug one in Season 2. (SPOILERS Season 5) I'm sure you've noticed already but there's a pretty cool one I noticed recently in Season 5 in episode 3 (I think) with the beer bottles hanging on the edge of the balcony and Kim keeps looking at it. Then the next day Jimmy teases dropping one and Kim just launches her bottle on the road. Then the next day (next episode) Jimmy doesn't want to clean up the mess but Kim cleans it up. For me, it was such a creative, brilliant way of describing their relationship but I would LOVE to hear your take on it in your Season 5 review if you haven't already edited the video etc. But regardless I appreciate your attention to detail in a show that very much has incredible details.
I didn't see Jimmy having no emotional reaction to Chuck's death at all. Rather most of his actions throughout this season stem from his own grief towards Chuck. He himself feels guilty for Chuck's death given the trial and everything and getting mad at Howard is his way of coping and trying to immediately shift the blame on him. A big part of becoming Saul Goodman meant shedding himself of any ties to Jimmy McGill and was a key way of moving past Chuck's death.
I've only seen up to this season so far, but it's my favorite season so far. Jimmy really goes down a dark path, and unlike Walter White, he seems to know, and even worse, he doesn't seem to care. It's also interesting to see him unable to turn down money. I like Kim more and more each season, and I like seeing her support Jimmy and stand up for him, even though she's unaware of his scheming with Chuck's malpractice insurance. I loved seeing Mike become Gus's main guy and everything with Werner Zeigler. Nacho is a great character with a completely miserable arc in this season. I also loved the introduction of Lalo Salamanca, who I knew was coming, but he was so unbelievably entertaining that it didn't matter.
Winner is one of the best episodes of all time for me. The entire series we are taught to hate chuck and then they throw the winner scene and wow, makes everything more tragic.
