Such a mighty silent whisper breaking walls/barriers silently
she stands. With so many of us standing with her Creed

We would do well not to forget what she wrote. That’s us.

New York, is there a place like this anywhere in the country? Anywhere in the World?
New York, is so many things to so many people.

"Give me your tired your poor your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the retched refuse of your teeming shore, send these the homeless tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door" we used to be such a better people...

Fear is an ugly head that raises up for all kind of reasons. Back then it was feared there would not be enough room ! The U.S. is a galvanized racist society. Right now Trump is our galvanizer. Unless folks educate themselves we will be right back in The Pickle. And I don't mean in the numerous pickles in the barrels on Hester St ! Fight Hate And You Fight Fear !

New York A City on a Hill, as a beacon of light and hope for all of the huddle masses of this earth come and make this home! Home is where the heart is. Where is happiness bred, in the heart or in the head? There is no place like home. There is no place like New York, where scenes of visionary enchantment spark up nostalgia from street to street.

It's sad that she never saw the plaque.

I think it’s actually in the visitors center if I remember correctly.

Emma Lazarus was actually a Sepharadi Jew.
Her family attended Congregation Shearith Israel (also known as "The Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue") in New York City, which is also the oldest Jewish congregation in the United States.
Her poem, “In the Jewish Synagogue in Newport”, is about the Touro Synagogue in Newport, Rhode Island ~ an historically "Spanish and Portuguese" synagogue having very strong historical ties to Congregation Shearith Israel in New York City, the oldest still standing synagogue structure in the United States, and the oldest surviving synagogue in North America.
Sadly, today, there is an ongoing legal battle to preserve the Sepharadi origins, history and heritage of the Touro Synagogue in Newport...

Emma Lazarus was of an OLD New York Jewish family that dated in New York from the 1600s. Calling her German-Jewish is rather absurd. Immortal poem. Two of my ancestors passed under the Mother of Exiles coming to New York as did Donald Trump's. He may be FROM New York but he doesn't understand it.

I agree...old doc, I mean this came out before the towers fell. Times have changed perhaps more than we even want to believe.
