I've used this curry mix for some time now and if i say it myself i make a fantastic chinese curry with Mayflower mix i add water chestnuts and bamboo shoots ...i make up batches for my three sons ....keeps them happy 😊😊
really fantastic. I've tried to make Chinese chicken curry dozens of times over the last 10yrs, and while I've had a few decent batches, I've never produced anything that's close to rivaling a Chinese restaurant. I've now followed this recipe about 4 times in the last 3 weeks, and it's fantastic - it absolutely rivals my local Chinese and is far less expensive (and rewarding) to do it yourself. I'm a Brit living in the US and we don't have the Mayflower curry, but I've found the S&B Golden Japanese curry mixes found in the US to be a perfect alternative. Thanks so much for posting this!
@@_wormlet I use breast and thigh, but mostly thighs as they don't dry out so quickly. I made some 2 days ago, you really can't go wrong with quantites...i just rough it - I used 1.5 lbs of chicken, which was 3 medium skinless boneless thighs, and I made up about 12oz of curry following the directions of water to mix ratio. I also chopped up and added a jacket potato, which also tastes great in the curry.
Wow never ever have I been impressed by a homemade curry. But everyone of my family ate it ,and said it tasted excactly like a takeaway, and i agree.Got mine from farm foods, and it was the best 89 pence i ever spent.Thank you
Anazing basic recepie i followed and it made it exactly the same as the takeaway thank you so much! Im never paying for a takeaway chicken curry again.
@@Skooty68 So you claim you worked there, you then searched for Mayflower Curry, just so that you could post that you claimed you worked there and claim that you know what goes into the powder.
Just made this for the first time& followed exactly as video..( I did add some sliced mushroom though) It turned out fantastic.. Just like a takeaway you woul buy.. Would never have thought about poaching the chicken in the water first, before adding to wok.. I worked out measurements for ingredients for a single serving as I live on my own and it was the perfect amount.. 90gr chicken 1/2 small onion 2 mushrooms, sliced 1/8 cup peas 28gr Mayflower mix 150ml cold water... I hope this may help if you are cooking for one... Thanks for a great informative video.. Lorna🏴
@jasonxcheong2009 I'm 27, Kin is my father, you can probably guess roughly how old he is from that. I'm behind the camera for this video directing as best I can.
I've been making this for a while now using this curry powder. Use pre-cooked, diced chicken instead though, saves time. Makes a lot of meals for a cheap price and tastes great. You've just got to measure the curry powder well because there's a fine line between too much and too little making it either to thick or thin.
I buy 1.2kg bags of cooked frozen chicken in Farmfoods, bags of frozen peas and frozen sliced mushrooms. Nothing ever goes off and gets thrown away and you can make Chinese chicken curry in minutes whenever you choose, for something like £1.50 / $2 US :)
ive just used used ur sauce mix and made a chicken curry just like its done in the video. what can i say? absolutly fantastic! i used to order this dish from my local takeaway as it was my favourate and this tastes exactly the same. as i love cooking and chinese food too ill def be doing this one again. thankyou
I've used both of these sauce mixes and they're great. I prefer the hotter one but my wife likes the standard one. Great curry sauce. I usually fry the chicken but I'll try boiling it. Does really only take two minutes to cook?
i have tried slight adjustments? i sometimes add a small amount of chicken soup. and also a spoon of Barbeque sauce? from a squeeze bottle? you can try it to see if its better. i'm not sure about the peas. Not found any peas in my takeout yet.
@H2T2008 In our video we prepare enough for 2 people using: half an onion 1 large chicken breast a few of tablespoons of Mayflower Curry Sauce Mix (more will make it thicker) 2 cups of water Try also substituting chicken for beef or adding mushrooms or a handful of frozen peas. They all taste great and you won't be disappointed.
Hi, thanks for that, how to cook the chicken properly is exactly what I needed to know, so far I’ve only done Katsu, but looking forward to trying this, I use Goldfish curry paste, it seems pretty authentic.
Hello !,just made this super dish,I added mushrooms cos I had some spare, bloody good tucker ! I served mine with boiled rice and microwaved poppadoms, ate some froze some for later.Brill.
As soon a§ I saw this video I ordered 2 packs off mayflower curry sauce extra hot and I love how it taste, literally the same as my local chinese... And I add the pea's and onions, aswell as mushrooms and some cut up chilli for more heat as I wouldn't say its extra hot, and its yummy, oh and nice clear vid :) Thanks
omggggg,,,followed this recipe..cost £1.00 for mayflower got 4 uses,bag of rice 50p,5 uses,a chicken from tesco(slow boil it for stock for another meal) 2.49 4 uses,onion and mushrooms,i,d say 15p...worth it xx
i used this unknown curry-looking unlabeled bottle that was stored in my mother's spice rack... and... then i added curry paste by lee kee kum or something and it was amazing! LOL.. but cooked the ingredients separately and added it to my curry soup.. XD ... everything was improvised and i managed to make curry!! lol. i went to my bf's bestfriends condo n he had a spice rack. i had to make up the taste because i didn't know what was in curry... but i ended up making the curry bloody excellent!
I made this this evening by following the video and it turned out really nice! I didnt think about rice till about half way through though :D but it all worked out. thanks for uploading
Mayflower curry sauce powder is delicious, even extra hot is not spicy enough, so I add a good shake of chilli flakes and also season with dark soy sauce - try it!
@EdMahoney19 Ive never tried using the garam masala wouldnt it be better with a curry powder ?. Also 2 tb of turmeric would be very strong , ill try that and a chicken stock cube anyhow. Do you use flour to thicken the sauce ?
Not sure is any of you folks agree with me but i like doing this recipe slightly different, i like to marinade my chicken for a day with a little oil and Chinese 5 spice and wok fry the meat rather than boil it, i also add a finely sliced chilli if i want a wee kick.
Is this curry sauce better than Maysan? I have used Maysan for years..and i love it but it is not that easy to get hold of but... i can get mayflower from 10 minutes away...
@doh1959 I know what you mean , ive looked around online for an authentic chinese curry sauce like the takeaway. Fact is that no ones going to display a great money making recipe lol. Mayflower and Maysan are as close as ive bought, but there also full of hydrogenated veg oil (highly fatty). You can make a half decent one using madras powder and flour, then you can add various other things like ginger, pepper and turmeric to taste. I read that a chinese takeout curry has 100 grams of fat.
If you like it sweeter or fruity you could try a small handful of raisins, chunky cut carrots or even some fresh chunks of orange peel (cook the peel in the sauce and remove before serving).

As of Dec 2024 Amazon doesn't sell this curry powder.
Just google Mayflower Curry Sauce

hi chef what oil did you use and more importantly what is the name of the curry powder please. thank you chef, looks lovely
Sunflower oil. The name is Mayflower curry sauce mix

I find it better to add the mayflower powder dry and stir fry for a minute, and then add liquid, try it 👌🏻
Cant beat it!
Don't forget the MSG for that real Chinese taste
Gold fish curry paste..much nicer and more authentic 😊👍
Can I ask you, why did you boil the chicken? is that why the chicken melts in your mouth when you get it from a takeaway? Ive always fried it might give it a try boiling it.
who doesn't enjoy a good curry eh?, especially one that done so simple.
