I too had an old gramma from church warn me of a bad fella claiming to be good. He was tryin to shine as a good fella. She said her daughter had married up with this trickster fella’s dad. Her daughter was taken to a cave back in the hills and locked in for months with no escape. She was young and innocent and just wanted love. The old church gramma was warning me to not mess with this charming type trickster fella as he was just like his daddy. I reckon the ol church gramma saved me a lot o heartache as I thought I’d found a christian fella. I know God sent her to call me and tell me as I was so innocent of these types. I was adopted and met my biological father in 2016. I found out that I had 9 generations from eastern Kentucky. I’m in Utah. So I love hearing these stories. Funny thing is when I was just a kid. I would rather listen to Bluegrass more than popular music and I am a retired coal miner. That acorn don’t fall far from the tree, no matter who and where you are.
My great-grandmother had faith, but also knew every plant that grew and how to make medicines from them. She was an expert at determining ailments - as good as any physician - not to mention a midwife who could actually turn babies who were breach or in the wrong position to be born. As she used to say, the Almighty gave us intelligence to use in gaining know-how so that we can do things for ourselves and to help others. Faith is a wonderful thing, but it's to be used along with knowledge and skill because He expects us to do what we can for ourselves before asking Him to do what we can't.

Many people go to church on Sunday for an hour or so, believing God is there. I hike in the woods almost every day. That is my church. Look around there, what you are seeing is God's creation. Mountains, rock formations, trees, wildlife. People didn't create this, God did. I speak to him there, and all the loved ones I've lost. And I believe they hear me.
