The amount of work you have to do at all times, everywhere at once, seems overwhelming. I love the way you prioritize and are so flexible. What a huge undertaking for two people! The love and care you have for your chateau and your animals keeps me coming back for every single video. Oh, what the heck’ we all know it’s for Amanda’s sense of humor! 😂❤

I watch on UA-cam once a week a Dutch man who bought a farm high in the mountains in Italy. He’s converting two small stone cottages into his home. He purchased a machine that squirts the lime mortar into the cracks and crevices of all the interior stone walls. Tedious but it was much faster than using a trowel. The mortar squirts out of a tube and gets deep into the crevices, and he used a trowel to remove drips. Just a thought. I can’t believe your daughters have the same birthday two years apart. That’s quite amazing. Happy Birthday to them. You must be very exhausted after a full day outside. So much work, but I believe you love it!! xx

JFYI, just because the apple tree has fallen over doesn't mean it's dead, just use straps to put it back and leave posts to stabilize it and it will recover. We have done that several times and the trees still lives, the lase one fell over more than 15 years ago and it's one highest producers of fruit.

Enormous amount of work!! I live on a smaller farm and sometimes, very rarely, wish that I lived on the 25th floor of an apartment building!!! No mowing, weeding, sowing, watering, harvesting, cutting and a million other jobs that just spring up!!! But then the tomatoes, the lettuce, fresh eggs and fruit and my grandkids running around, make me forget the strenuous routine of farm life.

From watching your blog and many others relating to château life, it is very clear they require an immense amount of sweat equity. When people lived in Château, historically, they had servants to deal with the gardens, as well as anything else that took place at that setting. For two people to accomplish. All that is required would appear to be exhausting. I hope you can find ways for you to lighten the load. It would appear to me that you might be on a burnout trajectory. I spent 30 solid years after graduate school in my career working multiple jobs simultaneously. At the end of that. I was exhausted and burned out. Fortunately, I had a chance to change my life significantly and that occurred 24 years ago. At age 81 I am grateful that the last 24 did not require excessive labor. Maintaining a healthy work. Life balance is very difficult and having a very big property without adequate help makes having that balance extremely challenging

We had a giant owl for years on our property. He was huge, like 3 1/2 feet tall. When we went out with the dogs at midnight he would stand in the grass as if he wanted to hang out with us. Our older dog is blind and the younger one grew up seeing him. We had an understanding among us. I have not seen him in about a year and I’ve missed him.

What an amount of work. Back in the days, those properties where maintained by may be a dozen full time workers who did work all year round to keep the property in shape. Nowadays they are very hard and costly to maintain by private owners outside of the scope of hotels or corporate facilities.

You can pull those apple trees up - a strap on the front of a truck and then around a tree and drive slowly backwards. Second, don't squirt foam into the walls. Better to use a stone, which you can easily extract when the pointing is being done. Third, the easiest way to do a mass removal of vines off the walls is to cut at the ground and leave a couple weeks to dry. Then they aren't holding to the wall as strong when you come to snip the vine. Further drying will let you brush the walls of the remainders, so you never pull vines off, you are rubbing them off essentially.

That barn owl is beautiful. It is good you got the chimney covered. That cottage is very cute.
You both work so hard. I really hope the tarp helps save the wall. Having the large trees cut will help dry the area better. That Ivy is so problematic and a real pain to keep away. Having a friend to teach how to do the mortar is a blessing, as is the guy that you got the first from. So glad the hunting season is over. I wish they wouldn't do that.

There's a fairly new channel of a couple, Expats, that bought a rather old townhouse in the city of Amboise needing quite a bit of repair. Ppl wrote how they love watching this done. I sense many of us back in the states secretly wish we could do the same. I shared about an 1850 4200 sq ft Chateau being reno'd as well. Even wrote the channel's name. Another beautiful, quaint, and historic area.

Good planning on the births of your two daughters...2 parties for the price of 1 and they're invisible ...wow! ! Way to go! The stone walls are gorgeous so saving them makes a lot of sense. Good video again!

I can't believe how much work you do on your own. The chateau is beautiful, and the property is spectacular.

I think the collection of owl pellets was on Dirty Jobs. They were collected for college kids to study. Amanda I have always been an animal lover. I love the fact that despite all the enormous renovations in and around the Chateau and property you are always so concerned with the wellbeing of all the “critters” you and your husband are just lovely people.

I don't envy you the task of maintaining the garden wall, despite my enormous admiration of your property in general. Whilst I suspect you've done your homework, just a word of caution in case - some spray foams will expand when wet, which would be a disaster for the wall. I do hope the apple tress can be re-rooted! So tragic to lose such a huge bit of the orchard. Best of luck!

Amanda please be careful with the sprayfoam, it is highly toxic. You should check out the ingredients. I learnt about it at college and I was astonished that this poduct is allowed to be sold. 🙂

Not terribly fun to spend time and money on essentials like tree trimming and walls - but what acts of stewardship for the chateau property and future generations. Walled gardens are works of art - thank you for your efforts to keep this incredible work whole.

Tie the tarp down with gallon jugs filled up with water or tie off concrete blocks of both side of wall to hold it down from wind ! Just a thought ! We used jugs that had contained cleaning products now empty and tied off to the trap filled with water to hold down tarp from wind ! Help keep the tarp from blowing over the wall that needed repair just a thought for temporary fix ! Love your videos such nice weather going to be 15 the next two days in southern ontario! But going to get cold again and snow and sleet ! In like a lamb and out
Iike a lion! March living up to its name out like a lion end of March here ! The Daffodils now have closed buds but could be April here before they bloom ! Not like last year bloomed in March! Ever changing each day !Thanks you two are such hard workers stay safe !

I give the two of you so much admiration. I wouldn't be able to live in a Chateau. I don't like to be cold. Also I couldn't see myself doing all that restoration and maintaining the property. Wow!
