  • my first stop is the old ruins of the old town of stari bar.
the old town is about an hour’s walk up a hill from the new town, or about 10 minutes by car, a taxi will cost you €2-3 (ksh 200-300).
the old town of stari bar has seen its fair share of troubles. over the centuries it was taken over by venetians, serbians, hungarians and the ottoman Empire. in 1877, it was finally reclaimed by montenegro from the turks. one hundred years later, in 1979, the main towns water supply aqueduct was destroyed by a major earthquake and the city was abandoned.
once upon a time, though, stari bar was once been an impressive cultural centre, full of dedications to deities, grand buildings for the nobility, and a residential and commercial hub for the common people.
in recent years, the authorities have put in quite a lot of effort to restore the town.
the second stop was vodopad turcini, stari bar.
a 1 hour hike from from the top of the old town, tucked away in a canyon in the mountains, are the deep blue waters of the mystical vodopad turcinin lagoon. with its very own waterfall, it’s the perfect shaded spot to take a dip in the super chill water before heading back down the mountain to the old town.
