- First a very strange commercial encouraging fans to purchase tickets. The entire 30 second commercial shows 1 single Bills highlight, not at Rich Stadium but at Giants Stadium, a catch by Jerry Butler.....out of bounds. This commercial to me represents just how bleak this franchise was at this moment in time but don't worry, in a few days things changed drastically for the Bills as Jim Kelly finally signs.
Then we get to see some guy wearing #80 for the Oilers followed by Andrew Luck's father Oliver entering the game at QB for Houston
The next clips is of then barefoot punter Lee Johnson (yes that Lee Johnson who played forever) running for a 1st down with no shoe or sock on his left foot. The next play is of Mark Kelso forcing a fumble. I included the Kelso play because of how rare he looks in this game - no huge helmet and in blue pants
To top it off, in 79 days the color commentator with Rick Azar will replace Hank Bullough as head coach and lead the Bills to a 123-78 record over the next 11.5 seasons
This is amazing as we see the Bills a couple of days before Jim Kelly signed. Then we are listening to Marv Levy a few months before he took over as the head coach. Then we are seeing Steve Tasked play for the team the bills claim him off waivers from in this game. It's so incredible the irony of this game of people and players who ultimately steer the ship of the greatest era in Bills football. Levy had been doing commentary for Channel 7's Bills preseason games and perhaps Ralph Wilson got to know him or at least listen to him and was impressed and perhaps Levy, being a big proponent of special teams, was impressed with Tasker here and claimed him off waivers
here's another preseason game where Levy called the action alongside Rick Azar for Channel 7 ua-cam.com/video/yubPEeloHSM/v-deo.html
So weird seeing Tasker in a Oilers uniform. Ironically, Tasker was drafted one pick after the Bills 9th rd pick. Thank Goodness the Oilers cut him.
And @0:20 Was that really ruled a TD? He didn't even get one foot down. Maybe back then, the rule of being pushed out by a defender and it being a judgment call by the ref? Still... that wasn't even close.
Hell no, that's why it's so ridiculous they chose that as the 1 play to put in their commercial. The Bills lost that game 42-3 too
Andy Provin : lol they put a highlight of a catch out of bounds? I at least thought maybe it was somehow called a TD bc of that old rule - even then, it wasn’t close. The Bills have gotten a lot better at promoting.
Tasker and then Mark Kelso forces the fumble
Sounds like Marv doing the color commentary...and yes, the Wilson Bills were bleak indeed.
Marv was the color guy from like 1984 on. Azar and he actually called Bills-Seahawks in 1984, the last regular season game to be outsourced to local tv due to a baseball conflict
Yes. I was supposed to add that in the description as well
I really love these bills uniforms
I thought for a second it was Paul McGuire, but you guys are right, its definetely Marv LOL maybe this where Marv first saw Tasker and liked him
Steve Tasker an Oiler before a Bill
