As a result of the volcanic activity, the oceans were deepened. The water cycle became established which consisted of fresh water flowing, but it mostly ends up flowing into the seas. The tides and continuous movement of the oceans does a good deal for cleaning the continents as rivers flow to the sea. God created fishes, apparently, with an ability to adapt to the changes in the oceans as time as progressed. The solution to pollution is dilution - - the principle of the water cycle.
