"Where there's smoke, there's fire" 🔥 love that. I've been loving your videos since the start, Lori 💗
Above the 5 pillars, I look for something unique about the item. It's easy to find a white cotton shirt or a black blazer but it's the design or construction details that convince me. I'm in a market (Chicago) where we have tons of thrift stores, estate/yard sales and people donate a lot of great items. I look for European brands from Italy, France and Spain, especially colorful pieces. And I've honed my picks to what I like to list - no one/cold shoulder tops, no pieces I can't figure out how style or anything too sheer.
Ohhhh. I absolutely hate going to the grocery and have mine delivered to me. 💯 I would rather THRIFT! 🤣
I am a reseller of vintage decor and hard goods at a very busy antique mall, with items I found "in the wild" gently used. My tip - I volunteer at a great local thrift shop 4 hours a week, so I can get first dibs of all the new stock, and, bonus! a 50% employee discount on the tagged price!!
One of my favorite tips is to always check the racks right next to dressing rooms. I have found some good finds there that didn't fit other people and they left them on the end of racks.
I wish you did more videos like this one. The tips are helpful.
Thank you! I shy away from giving advice because all of our business models are so different. I hope that some of what I share is helpful. Thanks so much for watching!
Sometimes I can spot a quality item from a little ways away. I found a Maui Gold dress. I wasn't familiar with the brand, but as soon as I saw it, I knew it was a good find. Looked up the brand and discovered it was great. Sold it for three times what I paid. Great tips Lori. I wrote them down. Thank you.
Great tips! Thanks for doing this video!
My pro tips are feel everything…if it feels like quality it more than likely is….this happened the other day when I found a vintage coach purse. If an item is heavy is another indication of quality for certain items. I try to keep my cost below $10 for everything and sometimes it is better to have a few really great items that draw people to your shop so if your cost is more for those that’s ok in the end you will do better. Lastly your reputation is everything so selling any items with rips etc just isn’t worth it so I am extra picky what I sell.
Our Goodwill Outlet does provide shopping bags and doesn't allow food or drinks.
So I do have to make sure I at least snack on a little something before heading out there.
Fun video! I love finding one amazing item in one size and scrambling to look through the same size in other sections and hoping there is more! Good tips!
I love the unsweetened nut pods it is my favorite, I use it everyday in my iced chai
Nut pods are great (and so is iced chai!!). Enjoy!! Thanks so much for being here. xoxo
Great video, Lori! Thanks for the tips. I’ve learned SO much from you. ❤ My silly question for you about looking for “new tags”…how does that work in your thrifts? Im assuming your stores rotate weeks? In my area, most stores don’t have sales (a senior days only) or color tags. We can look through new racks, but there are no “new tags”.
Funny that you mentioned Ali Accolade! I JUST found a hoodie/pants set a few days ago. Near perfect condition. I remembered you mentioning the brand!
I notice every market or city is different. Some cities do or have Senior day or a color of the week- but some will ask if u want to join their email. Some cities offer discount days to seniors, teachers, health care/first responders
Oh and something I have wanted to ask you for a while. How do you find thrift stores, new shops, etc. Since the yellow pages are a thing of the past, is there a good source? I have done internet searches for the area but that just doesn’t seem to really be a good source.
Could be because you live near good thrift stores and some of us don’t.

Question, when you talk about denim, are you talking about denim jeans, or everything made from denim? Denim Jackets, denim shorts, skirts, tops, etc?? I get so confused
Everyone talks about shopping the new racks? My Goodwills do not let people shop the new racks. Bummer
Let
We have a couple around here that also don’t allow you to shop the new racks.
Mike will give you evil eye and kick you out if you even glance at the new racks
Still waiting on that Levi’s deep dive video you promised like a year or so ago lol
Thrifting not so fun any more! Too many comp-checkers. Cart hoggers. Stock hoggers. We bigger people have fewe items to choose from as you guys buy " all the bigger sizes." Just venting from " the other side."
Some of the lack of larger sizes is due to the thrift store cherry picking the better items in all sizes for resell online. Goodwill is very diligent in taking the better quality items out of donated inventory for their two online stores. It galls everyone because the items that used to be in store are now sold online. Some items do sift back into the brick and mortar stores but not that much.
Also there is a decent amount of theft so allot of stores (thrift and non thrift) have changed their practices- sell more online, etc. That is my take
