- Ferrell “Pharoah” Sanders is a Grammy Award-winning jazz saxophonist who has shown a remarkable facility performing in a variety of styles, from free to mainstream, displaying what has been called “hard-edged lyricism.” Emerging from John Coltrane's groups of the mid-1960s, Sanders is known for his distinctive sound marked by overblowing, harmonic, and multiphonic techniques. Happy he got this recognition before he passed.
RIP Mr Pharoah Sanders
Your sound was unique and spiritual and you will forever be missed
I can’t express how much I regret never having experienced him live, I had considered flying to England to see his last gig and thought, nah, there’s going to be more convenient opportunities. And I also can’t express how grateful I am that his music found it’s way into my life, because it wouldn’t be the same without it. ❤❤❤
Me, too as my favorite artist. I was hoing to see him @NYC's Red Parrot 2 years ago, but he fell and broke his hip. His son Lumkili was an online friend of mine. Peace Be Upon Him, forever.
Pharoah was like John Coltrane. So soft and tempered in the daily life and human interactions but incredibly powerful and soulful when he blown this horn...he was a truly Spiritual Man, just as John. Ornette Coleman famously said that Pharoah is probably "the best tenor saxophonist in the world". I don't think we will hear such kind of artists for a long long time...RIP Pharoah. Your musik is your true essence and will never die !
This is so wonderful. Thank you Mr. Sanders for your infinite and beautiful gifts that you shared with us. Rest In Peace. 👑❤️🙏🏼
Words are insufficient to describe all of the beauty, freedom and uniqueness Pharoah Sanders gave to the world. We have been blessed and are so very grateful!!!
