Weirdly what's made me search for this game was me sat here randomly remembering how I used to rent mega drive games from our local newsagent, and this was one of those games I kept renting out ... Wow what a blast from the past

Thanks for uploading this! Whiled away many hours playing this and the various Electronic Arts flight games (F22, LHX Attack Chopper etc).
For M1 Abrams, I recall having to use the game manual for clues on the location of some objectives (otherwise you could just be milling around with no idea where to go) but the immersion was absolutely amazing.
Two things that frustrated me though: you only had six defensive smoke rounds (got through those in no time) and if you had no AX rounds, you were defenceless against attack from Hind gunships (in reality, a hit from a HEAT or Sabot round would damage/destroy an aircraft).

It's amazing how immersive such basic graphics were at the time. The sheer amount of mileage you had to do was pretty tedious though.

I distinctly remember an NES version. May not have played it, but remember seeing A1 Abrams on NES for sale at the Big Bear WV swap meet, circa 1991-1992.

Woah, impressive framerate for an early Western-developed Genesis title!

We'll great framerate! SegaRetro says the game used the GEMS sound driver, which may have been the first retail release to utilize the driver (there are so many Western-based Genesis sound drivers before that, like Tengen with Lisa Ching, RazorSoft with Kevin Seghetti and EA with Rob Hubbard and Steve Hayes). Even though Dark Castle used Artech's own sound system, the Sega Music Development System as its sound programming code.

Pretty smooth polygon engine for mega drive.

Is this a PAL version? The tempo of the music seems slower than my cartridge.

Yes this is a PAL version, as I've used RetroN but tbh I've moved onto using KEGA Fusion on the PC. But I find the RetroPie with RetroArch laggy as hell
