I am an industrial engineer. United States and its production businesses are the source of what I red in university and what we do in our factories. This video is just beautiful. Wish the bests for GM.
hey zach , as a Canadian we get screwed with the price of American cars even when built here, we pay a lot more even considering the exchange value, so there is no favor done to us by buying your cars, maybe that is why Japanese cars sell more than US cars in Canada
This Arlington Texas assembly plant is where they used to make the B body cars -the Peremiter frame RWD Impala/Caprice/Roadmaster. My Caprice has 349,6XX miles. Awesome car. Should've never quit making them.
I used to work at GM in Fremont California in the Truck division. our assm. Lines were a lot faster the this video. We would build 360 units a day. I worked swing, and if day shift had problems with the line stopping, we would have to make up the difference on overtime. Really enjoyed watching this video. Thanks for the upload.
realdealrealtalk290 415 last I knew was a full shift but they increased the line speed in many areas and I'm not sure what a full day with no line stoppages is now!
I see a lot of people complaining about how bad this job would be. People are being lazy in the states. I would love to work here. I would work here for $10/hr. Just to keep these jobs in America.
No thank you!! I used to do production welding for 6 months (putting together mufflers) ... Worst 6 months of my life. I still work in manufacturing but not on an assembly line. Just watching this makes me feel trapped again lol. But hey more power to ya! Reckon someone has got to do it.
My grandfather retired in 88, worked at GM engine plant for 40 years... Started on the line and eventually was plant manager. The pay was always great, he retired making over 150k a year in todays dollars... and his pension was excellent. I would love to work for GM.
I worked at the Lordstown, Oh plant for thirty years. You have no idea of how many of my friends had nervous breakdowns working in the line. Myself included. I have seen two people die of heart attacks and one killed by a car carrier the jumped the track. Believe me, it wasn't easy
Thank you for the video tour! Very cool to see how vehicles are assembled--sort of reminds me of Mr. Roger's Neighborhood when Fred would take his viewership on field trips. Thanks for sharing!
I'm buying a new Camaro SS this week, this will be a dream come true for me, I've driven wannabes by entire life, It'll be good to own the real one..!! :)
As someone who will be working in an assembly plant very soon, this is a good video for me to see. Yeah, it can be hard work, but that hasn't killed me yet.
I worked at the Lordstown, Oh plant for thirty years. You have no idea of how many of my friends had nervous breakdowns working in the line. Myself included. I have seen two people die of heart attacks and one killed by a car carrier the jumped the track. Believe me, it wasn't easy
I did three years in wentzville putting carpet in the trucks, installing heaters in vans on my tippie toes. Every job I was put on was to cover someone out on medical leave whom got hurt in that footprint. And never got a performance bonus the entire time since I’m a temp but you still work like everyone else and paid union dues. I’m happy now.
Ive owned a range rover and nothing compares to my 97 GMC yukon thats still going strong. I must say as the years go on you can see the quality and reliability they were built. The newer trucks look like plastic and aluminum, cant deal with that
Obviously you have never worked in a factory. It may look like the line is moving slow and they aren't working that hard, but I challenge you to do that job for ONE DAY. You have to know the job process in your sleep. You don't have time to think it. That next car is coming at you in less than a minute. Do the job with both hands full of tools and parts and don't scratch the car. I've seen your type griping about factory wages while you sit behind a desk pushing paper, not PRODUCING ANYTHING!
You are correct, I worked at Tarrytown when I was younger. It is not easy as people think. You have to be ready for the next car or truck. Started caulking window and last was driving cars off assembly line into rail cars before they closed down
I wish I could have a job like that. At least I could afford a new car at that rate of pay. I do like my classic cars with carburetors and points, less stuff to go wrong like check engine lights that won't go out even if you replace a bunch of sensors.
You have no idea of how many of my friends had nervous breakdowns working in the line. Myself included. I have seen two people die of heart attacks and one killed by a car carrier the jumped the track. Believe me, it wasn't easy
@Tom Platz damn you make it sound harsh lol. Its gotta be a decent paying job. I know gm workers get the most in the industry. Id do it but not for the rest of my life. Gotta figure out something else. Gotta set goals and figure out ways to get there and just do it. Gotta be willing to put up the grind too
It’s not all bad. I worked as an assembly line worker at a Bosch metals plant in Canada. Started summer after high school. Shift were long 5- 12 hour days, time and a half after 40 hours. Optional weekends. worked for 35 years ,17 years as line worker. 10 years as supervisor 8 years as plant manager. As long as numbers were good boss was very relaxed, job had little to no stress. Paid very well. Union job. Paid vacations. Year end production bonus. Great benefits.Put three kids through university, Great pension. 52 now, easily retire at 60. What more could a guy want in life? Did the same thing day in and day out. Listened to a lot of e books. Worked with the same Core group of guys my entire life. They are like my second family haha.
My mom was going to have a metallic red Tahoe circa 2008. It was going to be a pretty loaded suv too... unfortunately life took us over seas and thus, we never got to experience it.
Well that was 2008. This is 2023. You have the chance to experience it now. In fact, I'll bet you there are some used 2008 Chevy Tahoes out there for sale. Or you could get Tahoes that are close to a 2008. Someone has got to have one. All you need to do is Google it.
I hope New president Donald trump make Americans good again bring these jobs back here in American not China India, Canada, Brazil, Mexico we need them here USA all parts should be made here
Love watching the programmable machines working. A robot never asks for an increase in pay or benefits, never needs drug rehab, never wastes time smoking cigarettes or displaying their latest tattoo to coworkers, never asks for time off to attend a court hearing...
MrShobar okay i'm going to try and break this down for you. Humans work, to make money, to buy things. Are you honestly that naïve to believe all industries wont adopt automation to the point where there are few if any jobs left. Its time to be a big kid and do some big boy thinking.
Love these cars and trucks. We have owned foreign vehicles but NEVER again. They have always been boring to me.They have no heart to them. No life. Not to mention the fact people get killed in them because they canot be controlled. We have owned 3 yukons and absolutely LOVED them. We are looking to get a new body style 2014 yukon or maybe a Gmc Acadia Denali. Cant wait!
You know a lot of people like my wife and I need those, we have a farm and it is not even big enough, we have a suburban, handy to get animal feed in the rain and towing the horse trailer, try that with your Toyletota. best vehicles we have ever owned were Suburban's.
He is one in a million, best among many, most trusted , I almost gave up on trading then I met him through a friend, Austin is the most trusted trading expert who helped the life of my family and I ,.
what you call heart and life. I call possible Human error. the more that robotics are involved the less likely that human error on any given day will be eliminated. Who wants to risk the chance that the vehicle someone buys on a particular day that one worker was in a bad mood or sick and didn't do his job 100%, missing something or not doing their work properly? Robots don't get sick or have bad days.
I worked for an interior plant that supplied GM with parts , Once I ran some hot parts up in a van and waited 3 hours to get unloaded. The worse part was that the receiving ass hats were on break just about the whole time I was there..And then acted like I disturbing their sleep when they did unload me..Im sure they were making 22-25 hr at that time
I'd love to have a complete Tahoe chassis for my old 65 Suburban. Wonder if anyone has ever gone to GM and said" Can I buy just the chassis?" Would love to see the look on their faces.
Not when I worked at the GM Linden plant from 77'-81'. After a while the job itself becomes second nature and you either have conversation or put your mind in another dimension miles away.

I saw alot of assembly footage of late model cars and a couple of the documentaries said that they rotate people. I wish the Linden plant was still there, I'd try to get a job there.
They would somewhat panic if the regular operator didn't come to work and they had to use a utility person to fill in because the regular operator always did the best job. Thousands of good paying jobs between GM and Ford are no longer in New Jersey. A shame.
FFS! The factory production sequencing of these video clips was like watching a cat jumping after a laser dot across the entire length of a wall. All over the place!
We have owned 2 yuk ones and they R the best SUV out there. Drive better in the snow than anything else. Gm vehicles are the best made. The rest are junk. How many recalls is Toyota at this month for being cheap. Why people buy that crap makes no sense. Guess they like supporting a company. That lies to them and that's all Toyota does.
the sad part is i bet none of these people can work on their own car all they know how to do is put on that one door or that one tire but none of them knows anything about a car
Monkey see, monkey do, same thing day in, day out. No wonder drug and alcohol abuse is so high in those assembly plants. How someone could put in 30+ years on a line is beyond my understanding. Low self esteem and expectations.
I had a surbaban once. biggesst POS i ever had. Problems started from day one. no more G.M. for me. been driving toyotas and hondas ever since. and these are american made also.
Yeah, Japan has made some bitchin' cars. Lexus LFA, Acura NSX, Toyota Supra, Mazda RX-7, Nissan 300ZX, and Nissan Skyline GTR. And what does America make? Corvette and Mustang, which both can't drift without hitting crowds or curb slamming. Plus, Japanese cars are known for their reliability. While American cars can't even last up to 50,000 without getting drowned out in recalls
this would NEVER fly @ honda...no bump caps no safety glasses no ugly white uniforms no...hey wait shorts t-shirts...what are WE missing???...we're sweatin our brains out...
Are any of your relatives in the UAW leadership? Are you a minority, or a member of one of the "protected" groups under EEO and affirmative action? If not, your wasting your time, it isn't happening, trust me.
"A referral from someone who that works here"? No, there is ALLOT more to it than that, I know first hand. I had three family members and countless neighbors that worked at a plant in Indianapolis, and that was not enough. By the 1980s, all hiring was taken out of the hands of the local plant itself, and all hiring was done out of Detroit. HENCE MY EARLIER COMMENT.
Daniel Wykoff Yes I would...it's called going to college and getting an education in a field where one can exceed.....and successfully starting my own business with no help from a union, thank you!
Daniel Wykoff I never said anything bad about laborers. You must have an inferiority complex. I'm not anti-union. I just get sick of hearing the same union mantra that I wouldn't have nothing if it wasn't for them. I built my own business with out help from anybody no matter what Obama says! I worked at the Willow Run plant in the past summer and I know what goes on during lunch time too......
The only country in europe that builds good quality cars is germany. I guess you could say volvo but I haven't heard good things about them. If americans would charge what the germans charge for their cars then americans could build cars just as good as the germans but american cars are built for the average person german cars are built for the average rich guy.
The european cars are built only for the rich or wanna be rich. Don't say a golf is a good car. Compared to a yugo. VW are expensive to fix just like all european cars, but they are not reliable The japanese build the best cars for the money. I bought a ford f150 pickup in 2004 and it has been an excellent truck. No problems at all.
I see mostly Americans working hard building an awesome product. Keep it real.
Best suv ever!
Everything I love from suv's built like tanks, rock solid Vortec V8 engines, and American pride.
This is a beautiful site. :-)
I am an industrial engineer. United States and its production businesses are the source of what I red in university and what we do in our factories. This video is just beautiful. Wish the bests for GM.
I love buying Chevy and giving back to USA!!!
Everyone jump on board, let's support our FAMILY'S!!!
+Gregster82 What about the ones built in Mexico
or china, Thailand and Uzbekistan?
Or Oshawa Ontario

360 units a day? I work at the Fort Wayne truck plant and we make 74 trucks an hour.
Rudy Lora hey i know is kinda late but did you get discounts on ther products
I worked at the GM Linden plant and they cranked out 500 cars a shift.
I see a lot of people complaining about how bad this job would be. People are being lazy in the states. I would love to work here. I would work here for $10/hr. Just to keep these jobs in America.

They're actually pretty good jobs. The benefits are amazing, and a lot of people are unionized.

Seamed like a good work environment, everyone working together.
Arlington my home plant! Screwing a bolt in? I wish! we work hard for the money.
i would gladly work for gm at a rate of 10 dollars an hour for a year just to get my foot in the door.
It’s 2 years now

Where man and machine Kick-Ass together in America!❤ The robotic welding scene was like a scene out of Terminator!
Great to see Americans building American cars. Buy American everyone!!!
beautiful cars. Great workers there.
This looks like the Arlington Assembly Plant in Arlington, Texas just outside Dallas.
I think the workers are doing a great Job. Corvette is a great car !!. They are not just throwing the car together, by going to fast .

A MUCH more laid back and relax environment from the 1970s production lines at GM. These people have it very good.
I love all the cool handling devices WOW!!!
I been working in the Assembly line for 3 weeks now and i love it pays well
how do you apply?
I went through a Temp Service. Check for one in your area.
are they hiring?
+James Lanier whats the name of the temp service
Congratulations!

Best part of this whole video is, that there is American folks!
doing the same thing day after day every day would make me crazy.

Truly laughable. German cars routinely do quite poorly on consumer reports reliability. They are expensive to repair and over engineered.
This is amazing i wish I could have experience this part of Gm
فكر اجتهاد وتفاني بالعمل وتطوير =ابداع منقطع النظير
much more quite than it use to be.
Drive it here, build it here!

far from the last GM plant in America . we have 2 brand new ones in Lansing Mi.

Robots don't get sick or have bad days.
You have never worked with robots. They do mess up quite often.
Am I the only one out here who thinks there is something vaguely spooky about those robotic devices building the cars?
I worked for an interior plant that supplied GM with parts , Once I ran some hot parts up in a van and waited 3 hours to get unloaded. I'd love the job of the dash check out
You need about 25-30 years to get that job bud.
I still have nightmares about working on the line. But, I can't complain.
You guys should bring back the fiero and the suburban from the 80s it would be so cool
Tim Harris real funny.
Can someone help me get a job there? I use to work for the Minnesota Ford Plant until they closed. Do they still do a referral system there?
Does everyone trade off on the assembly so they don't get burned out doing the same thing as to learn the whole build?
yes thats common practice. They rotate to keep sane
Not when I worked at the GM Linden plant from 77'-81'. After a while the job itself becomes second nature and you either have conversation or put your mind in another dimension miles away.
Eddie Last I wonder if GM was the only company that didnt do it, or if they all didnt do it until some point recently. we rotate jobs
this looks like the oshawa truck plant until they moved the fuking thing to mexico
I wish I had a hoist like that to remove the body of my '65 Suburban.
Lol I'd take that old machine over the China made Brake Press I work on for making store fixtures.
Boy, how would you like to be in maintenance at this plant. Wow
Me too! Maint. at TRW what a blast!
PS hondas been making since since the turn of the millennium, their mid 90s class is where it was at
i have been inside arlighton chevy tahoe assembly plant all around
Respect
Pretty cool.
Curious if employees get a nice discount off these cars.. I'd take a fully loaded Tahoe & Corvette 😆
Mida Multitool they do sometimes they pay less for a car than dealers do.
$80 an hour and yes, they work their butts off
where do you apply for Jobs or career
Yes i love team work
do you get discounts if you work ther????
andres yes, sometimes more off than a dealer would pay.
Why was this not shot starting from the start of the assembly to the completed car?
jjsmnow cause it's the coolest part of the process. That involves people.
Mostly robots in the body shop doing spot welds these days.
Why did Americans quit caprice making on 1990 styles
Genuine name brand GM☝️
FFS! The factory production sequencing of these video clips was like watching a cat jumping after a laser dot across the entire length of a wall. All over the place!

Wow y'all need to chill the fuck out . Seriously I was only kidding.
bathroom breaks nonexistant in that setting

Hi how are you guys? Do you make a hberid truck.
The only thing missing from this video is the noon lunch whistle and the employees all running across the street to the bars to get drunk.

VW are expensive to fix just like all european cars, but they are not reliable
The japanese build the best cars for the money. I bought a ford f150 pickup in 2004 and it has been an excellent truck. No problems at all.
