Siestas are a more common occurrence in less affluent or developed countries during hot weather because businesses cannot afford the installation costs, maintenance costs, and energy costs to run an air-conditioning systems. Thus for Australian office workers during Summer they can have fully air-conditioned offices year round or else they can go without air-conditioning and take Siestas during the hot afternoons. One should already know which one the office workers would prefer. Most Australian building sites have strictly enforced rules where work stops the moment that the temperature exceeds 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the old scale or its equivalent in Celsius, it might even be lower today, which might mean a Siesta but more likely for tradies and contractors a session down at the pub, which will be air-conditioned.

Australia day in Darlington Point NSW about 38deg. On the long weekend Monday public holiday {which for many aussies is just a good reason to have the piss up last longer} is forecast to be around 44deg.
There's not a lot of Australia Day stuff because it's a contentious issue. We don't do the patriotism thing like America, so when people go all out with flag themed stuff, it's mostly tongue in cheek. It's a day of mourning for indigenous people, and as people become more sensitive to that, the day has become toned down. We'll never knock back a public holiday though.
Ketchup is American Sauce using concentrated vinegar whereas Tomato Sauce is made with different ingredients. The R.S.L. is the Returned Soldiers League that now has Poker Machines, and was used to raise funds for children orphaned by war.
So Australia Day is contentious here, as it marks the day when Europeans arrived in Australia, marking the beginning of horrific frontier violence against our indigenous population. Aboriginal Australians call it "Invasion Day" or "Survival Day", and it is becoming increasingly considered offensive to celebrate it. So if you don't see much about it, that might be why.
Except the indigenous tribes were engaged in ongoing "horrific frontier violence" amongst themselves for countless centuries beforehand. I'm sure every battle with an opposing tribe was "invasion day" and things would never be the same for them afterwards, experiencing it multiple times throughout their lifetime. It's just that the new arrivals turned out to be victorious against all of these tribes. Australia Day wasn't widely contentious or offensive until very recently when it became a woke cause. I think they "survived" and were offered integration into today's society quite nicely thanks. They have gone on to become Parliamentarians and represented all people in the population, and some have done quite well for themselves. They also receive billions of dollars annually to help them get along, for the mere fact they have indigenous ancestry. They receive more taxpayer money and benefits per head than any other group in society. So, yeah, they are doing pretty well for themselves, and perhaps any problems they claim are on them for being lazy, not prepared to work and get drunk all day, not changing and not fitting in with the rest of society because they are used to the handouts. Those of us who haven't been indoctrinated, including many Aboriginals, still celebrate and love our country. Based on the recent "Voice" results, the majority of Australians are in agreement, which includes many from indigenous populations and areas.
@endotherm just go put your bogan pride flag on, polish your southern cross tattoo, and tell it to your racist mates at the pub. Recycling Pauline Hanson talking points looks pretty on you. Try not to step on glass if you end up at a beach. 😐
I'm not doing anything special on Australia Day, but I do have some lamb rogan josh (an indian curry) that I'm going to have for dinner. Not an aussie dish, but good enough for me 🙃
Australian here. I (along with many others - increasingly the younger generation in particular, and most Indigenous Australians) don't view 'Australia Day' as a day of celebration. Instead, on Jan 26th I commemorate Invasion Day (also known as Survival Day or Day of Mourning) because it is a reminder of the beginning of a horrific colonisation of Indigenous people and their land. I encourage you to look into it more! The anniversary of the day massacres, land theft, stolen children and oppression begun is not cause for celebration. I'm in Adelaide (South Australia) at the moment and we've had multiple days over 30 degrees Celsius in a row... sweltering!
Thank you Sophia for this excellent comment. Ignore the ignorant bogans lol. My family and friends have never celebrated the day either. It is a day of mourning for us.
There are a vocal minority that choose not to celebrate Australia Day, but if you take a look at the amount of community events and people having BBQs on the day it is safe to say it's not in danger of stopping any time soon. Personally I think we should have a day to bring all Australians together to celebrate our great country but it should definitely be moved to a less offensive date.
Yes, especially the younger generation, as they are easiest to indoctrinate by the Marxists who want to divide and destroy society. It's amazing how much "information" is out there now that wasn't even available before. Just like all the "sacred places" that suddenly popped up overnight, despite nobody saying anything about it prior to a few decades ago. Aboriginals are nomadic/wanderers and had no concept of "ownership" of the land. They just occupied and used an area for a time then moved on, or were displaced because a neighboring warring tribe wanted to come in to the area and fought them off. Even today, "stolen children" is a thing, equally applied throughout the population. Get up to the same evil behavior that brought on the stolen generation claims (sexual abuse of children, beatings, neglect etc.) and today's civilized societies just about everywhere will remove those at-risk children from their abusive families and put them into protection, just as they did back then. They didn't just remove them from their families for shits and giggles.
It is called Survivor Day, Invasion Day, and Day of Mourning for our indigenous people. The Greens also proposed free school breakfast. Over 40 deg cel many outdoor companies close. Work Place Health and safety.

It isn't proximity to the Equator that makes the sun more dangerous in Australia. It's the comparatively lower level of atmospheric protection from UV rays. After all, Sydney is the same distance south of the Equator as are 11 of the US lower 48 states, including parts of North Carolina, north of the Equator.
The earth is closer to the sun in the southern hemisphere summer. The orbit is an elipse and the sun is not in the direct centre of it. Hence the earth is closer to the sun by a few million kms in Australia's summer.

In aus we have a mining industry that is taking minerals out of our land which can't be replaced so our fair share is not to much to receive from our government.
The issue really is that the mining royalties that these highly profitable companies are paying to the government are insufficient to have any meaningful impact on government revenue that could be passed on to those less-needy residents. Robin Hood and all that: a form of socialism if you like but there’s nothing wrong with that. As an admirable example, Norway created a “sovereign wealth fund” in 1990 to keep a share of the revenue being generated from oil mining. That fund is now the largest of its type in the world with the equivalent of US$ 1.74 trillion (that’s trillion with a “t”) saved (see Wikipedia), available at the Norwegian government’s discretion to benefit the country and its citizens. Australia’s Future Fund” is minuscule by comparison.
Sausages are commonly cooked on a BBQ, served on white bread topped with tomato sauce, onion and sometimes coleslaw during Australia Day celebrations (known as a sausage sizzle)

9:00: RSLs aren’t supposed to be for profit but they do have to pay wages etc. There was a scandal in NSW a while ago involving $1m & some senior official. Their stated purpose is to care for veterans & their dependants, so 1.5% is a pretty stingy amount.

Austrilian tomatto sause covers a range of types some ate thicker like a relish but as a whole the main difference between tomato sauce and American ketchup is that ketchup typically contains a significant amount of added sugar, making it sweeter and thicker than a basic strained tomato sauce, which usually only has tomatoes, herbs, and spices with minimal added sweetness; essentially, ketchup is a sweeter, more concentrated version of tomato sauce with additional ingredients like sugar and vinegar.
RSL Clubs are not a financial support club for Veterans. The only funds raised in Australia for Veterans are the RSL Homes Lotteries. Most people don't know this and think if they spend their money in a RSL club it helps veterans, it doesn't. The clubs are run by volunteer Veterans for veterans and their guests to use, not for charity to aid veterans.
Ryan, the weather at the bottom of Aus is completely different from the upper, middle & coastal parts. It may only be 80°F in Sceale Bay at 5am but I assure you it's hotter at other places at 5am, like where I live on the mid north coast of NSW 😉
Hey man, good to see you take a great interest in Australia. Its hot and humid at the moment Summer Dec-Feb. cold in winter but no snow in Sydney like you have there.
Most of the mainland continent, even far from the desert, gets fracking freezing at night even in Summer. It’s incredible how dominating the desert quality of losing all heat overnight is in Australia. It might be because our dominant trees (eucalypts/gums) act more like giant (exploding) cactuses with how little water they transpire, being 40% oil in their sap to move nutrients and water around. A lot of us are unenthusiastic about celebrating Australia on the 26th of Jan since our first Aussies pointed out that is Invasion Day to them. And its date celebrates the foundation of Sydney/NSW anyway, rather than the beginning of Australia as a nation in 1901. The first official Australia Day was held on the 30th July 1915, to fundraise for WW1. As an honorary Australian, you need to participate in and listen to Triple Js Hottest 100 next year! It’s blown up into a worldwide event, partly on the back of Triple J consistently having one of the best independent artist playlists for decades. It was held on 25 Jan this year, and they’re still counting down the top 20 as I type. Next year you could react the next day to the top 10 or top 5 recording that happened overnight when you were sleeping!
Returned & Services League - originally an organisation for veterans who had served in a conflict, but, more recently, as conflicts became more comparatively scarce, for all who served in the armed forces
17°C where I am, 31° later, near Canberra - I will hop on the ride on mower before it gets too hot. 12° C in the mountains , 47°C inland. We don't have "whole of Australia " weather.
I played in a cricket match where one of my team hit the ball through the windscreen of a car. The best part - it was his car 😂 This was back in the 1990's and he still gets reminded of it to this day.
My town did have a RSL till it was forced to close down, due to the fact the person running it had put the RSL in a million dollar debt. AFL club Western Bulldogs reopened it & paid the debt off & rename it The Peninsula Club, all this so the veterans had a place to hang out again. They owned it for about 10 years & sold it to the VRC ( Victorian Racing Club). They did the place up during our lock ups during covid & it's great.

Fun fuct, ketchup and tomato sauce are different, they are in the same sort of area of being a tomato based condiment, so we often incorrectly correct americans about it. Also, it only took 3odd years but you said "Woolworths"👍👏👏👏😂
Your outrage on RSL club support of veterans is well recieved
It’s tomato sauce not ketchup. Ketchup isn’t very popular here.
The only difference is ketchup has 900% more sugar.
These always put a smile on my face. Thanks mate. Happy New Year in the USA, and (yeah I'm about to get political), the very best of luck with the current political situation!! Peace from Aus ✌🏼
Australia day isn't celebrated like it used to be. Sorry to say but a lot of nationalities and individuals have made it a point to try to get it banned, Christmas too
(Not necessarily the same ones.)
And we are sick to death about this !!!@@judithstrachan9399
No one has tried to get Christmas banned.
I've never celebrated Australia Day in my life - I can't remember any celebrations as a child or young adult at all.
You've quickly become one of my fave channels.
Thanks, Ryan. You make me laugh. Love your streams. Australia Day in Melbourne will be 26°C and Monday will be 42°C. Plenty of sunscreen is required. You need to 'Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek and Slide'.
Slip on a 👕, Slop on some 🧴, Slap on a 👒, Seek some ⛱️, and slide on the 🕶. Happy Australia Day. 🇦🇺 😊
When you zoomed in on Sceale Bay (Pronounced Seal fyi) I lol'd hard. I live literally 1.5 hours drive from there.
Australia Day On the Australian Day Public Holiday (Monday 27th Jan this year) here in Melbourne is going to be 40 Degrees Celsius or 104 F! 🥵
YUK!!!! 👎😒
Cadbury chocolate is also now awful as Campbells USA bought it & immediately the quality changed, crappy goop was put into the ‘new’ chocolate bars & the cream fillings turned gross
Yep- the type of fat used or mix of ( milk or vegetable) changed, I reckon.
Oops! I think Kraft now own Cadbury - Campbells bought Arnotts Biscuits & ruined that brand!!
Returned services league is it not?
It was cold-ish last night. A few days ago I was dying from the heat at night. I guess Melbourne is doing Melbourne things.
I'm not doing anything special on Australia Day, but I do have some lamb rogan josh (an indian curry) that I'm going to have for dinner. Not an aussie dish, but good enough for me 🙃
Should've looked at Kalgoorlie WA's weather, 46c today, 45 yesterday.
Australia day eve, can't wait for the lamb tomorrow
Yeah 💯 the sun is different in Australia. It's very harsh, plus there is a massive hole in the ozone layer above Australia.
Ketchup is USA only.
Tomato sauce in Australia (with different ingredients).
I'm in Adelaide (South Australia) at the moment and we've had multiple days over 30 degrees Celsius in a row... sweltering!
Its called Australia day, and it should be celebrated by all Aussies. If not for our country's founding then none of us would have good lives.
The greens can pledge anything they loke because they will never have enough members of parliament to ever form government 😂😂😂
It is called Survivor Day, Invasion Day, and Day of Mourning for our indigenous people.
The Greens also proposed free school breakfast.
Over 40 deg cel many outdoor companies close. Work Place Health and safety.
It's always between 20°C - 50°C depending on where you live
Lol $500 per year school fees are steep? Lol what !!! Private school fees (before books, laptops, excursions, sport, uniforms etc) rangr from $20,000 pa (catholic schools) to $50,000 pa (other private) plus boarding school fees on top are usually about another $30K pa.
It’s currently 37C here this heat waves has been going for over 8 days and still no end in sight.
We call siestas nanna naps in NZ.
And in OZ!
Yep. I have one most days now I’m 70+ & it seems easier to sleep in the day when it’s ~30 than at nights when it’s ~20. Odd,
😊
Geez mate it's not like he was aiming for the car!
Not sure if the law has changed, but when I did law at uni there was a common law ruling that the cricketer was not liable for injury or damage to neighbours or passers-by. So in this case the cricketer could tell the happy neighbour to take a running jump.
Look at the bage it tells you what RSL is
It isn't proximity to the Equator that makes the sun more dangerous in Australia.
@@Guvament_bs, thanks. I didn’t know that.
A BEAUTIFUL Sunny Summer Sydney day today, this Aus Day Eve!
Not too hot, 27c degrees, perfect blue sky with no clouds, a light breeze.
Fabulous for being on the harbour, or the beach, or taking a walk through one of our Nasho Parks.
Feels like we turning on the perfect weather for our long weekend!
Sounds great. Enjoy!
HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY to you and your fam. T
26th Jan in Aus❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
RSL - Returned Servicemen League (meant to use profits to support returned veterans)
It's just Services.
Used to be the R.S.S.A.I.L.A., Returned Soldiers, Sailors & Airmen’s ( I ? ? ? - Imperial!) League of Australia from 1940-1965 when I was growing up, but you know us: if we can shorten it, we will.
@@Guvament_bs yes it includes women.
🇺🇸 Keys wins AUSTRALIAN OPEN WOMENS GRAND SLAM TENNIS ...plenty of sauce on the last 2 shots to win.
RSL = returned soldiers league. They’re supposed to spend it all on the running of the club and donate to veterans and local charities.
Returned Servicemans League.
It includes all members of the ADF, retired and currently serving, from all 3 arms of the defence force, not just soldiers.
@ damnit I knew that lol I’m sure I’m getting dementia lol
@lillibitjohnson7293 all good. I kinda replied without thinking. My dad was heavily involved with the RSL for ages and seeing "soldiers' has always caught my attention as incorrect. I really didn't mean to correct, just clarify for the overseas audience.
@ that’s fair enough mate, I’m glad you did as I hate what I said too lol
@lillibitjohnson7293 nah dont hate it, just claim reincarnation from 1924 when it really was the Returned Soldiers League. Got changed once after servicemen pushed for all to be included under the one banner.
Yesterday 37 today 31...53 and never wore sunblock. I've only burnt once in my life
We have tomato sauce, you can buy ketchup but it's not an Aussie thing
Pretty much same temps at the Gold Coast, you around SEQ?
In aus we have a mining industry that is taking minerals out of our land which can't be replaced so our fair share is not to much to receive from our government.
There are mines all over the world.
I'm in Brisbane and yesterday we topped 38 which i think is about 100 degrees
the sauce bot is just a 3d printer but it has sauce instead of filament lol
I don't wear sunscreen. Where I am in Western Australia we've had a week of 40C(104f)+. The hottest was Friday 45.6C(114f)
Happy melanoma, Phil.
Sausages are commonly cooked on a BBQ, served on white bread topped with tomato sauce, onion and sometimes coleslaw during Australia Day celebrations (known as a sausage sizzle)
Worst part of sunburn is the itch when it starts to heal.
I got bad sunburn on my back once and the itching was driving me insane.
Managed to find an open Chemist and when I had bought the Calamine lotion I poured half the bottle down my back as soon as I got outside. Oh the relief.
The cricket ball hitting the car!😂
Some people call it Invasion Day .
26th of Jan is Australia Day
It's tomato sauce
Happy Australian Day. We have been banned from celebrating it. We are anyway. 🎉🎉🎉
Bs
Banned? B.S
❤❤ the government gave $400 per child vouchers to use fir booklist and uniforms this year.
Melbourne has banned the traditional Australia Day Parade.
just realised, if this is 105th, you've been doing these for 2yrs
Yesterday was 42°C. southern Western Australia.
9:00: RSLs aren’t supposed to be for profit but they do have to pay wages etc. There was a scandal in NSW a while ago involving $1m & some senior official.
Their stated purpose is to care for veterans & their dependants, so 1.5% is a pretty stingy amount.
Lamb chops and lamb sausages for us today! I live in Pambula NSW on the far south coast of NSW perfect weather today not too hot, not too cool. Overcast but not interrupting a great day! Happy Australia Day! 😂🤗🇦🇺❤️💥
Please review The Comedy Company especially Colin Carpenter and col the fruiterer 😅
I think you mean Con the fruiterer (Mark Mitchell).
When I was in school we had to at the start of the year bring a box of tissues and a roll of paper towel that would be stored in a closet
Why?
Its hot and humid at the moment
Summer Dec-Feb. cold in winter but no snow in Sydney like you have there.
Next year you could react the next day to the top 10 or top 5 recording that happened overnight when you were sleeping!
i'm australian and i can't believe i never even thought about what rsl stands for
Returned & Services League - originally an organisation for veterans who had served in a conflict, but, more recently, as conflicts became more comparatively scarce, for all who served in the armed forces
In Adelaide it's gonna reach 39dgscelsius
Pass the dead horse (sauce)
We have tomato sauce. Ketchup also has vinegar in it that’s the difference.
It’s 10pm here in Adelaide and currently a lovely 30.8 degrees. 35 tomorrow. ☀️
Today is Saturday 25th, Australia Day is Monday 27th a public holiday
No, tomorrow IS Australia Day, Monday’s just the holiday in lieu.
@judithstrachan9399 my apologies I didn't have focus eyes on my nose when looking at the calendar until very recently, & being almost 70 I seam to forget things remotely important to me for many many years 🥱

A coolish, cloudy and sometime drizzely day down here in Hobart, Ryan, and heading down to 9c overnight. But not - Repeat NOT - complaining. Not when parts of WA got to over 49c a few days back...
Lamb Day? It was an Advert., created in 1999, attempting to sell more Lamb - and link this to 'National Patriotic Sentiment'. (Not everyone likes the taste of sheep - even baby sheep. Some of us even like some BBQ'd SHRIMP! ) 🤣🤣🤣
Fun fuct, ketchup and tomato sauce are different, they are in the same sort of area of being a tomato based condiment, so we often incorrectly correct americans about it. Ketchup has different ingredients and is significantly sweeter, you might actually like tomato sauce. Maybe someone will send one in the next package haha
Happy OZ Day, all 🇦🇺❤️🇦🇺 (& apologies to my Koori mates).
I spent this arvo' watching a bunch of lads slip & sliding down a hill, into the water. They also set up a ramp and rode a bike in.😂 Freakin hilarious.
JJJs Hottest 100 cranked up too, of course.
