Another benefit of the spiral wrap is that builders can take out 1 or 2 running guides, which means slightly less weight overall on the blank. I like to fish spiral wrapped rods for my swimbaits too. I don't really see or feel a torque difference over conventional. Main reason is that spiral wrapped rods in salt are usually seen in rods used for jigging or vertical fishing. The force of the pull is literally below you where you will definitely feel the line want to deflect down and around the blank on a conventional setup. However for guys who cast a lot like in bass or musky fishing, the pull is often more horizontal. Plus we use trigger-gripped reel seats that adds considerable stability when palming a reel, thereby negating a lot of the torque. Compared that to saltwater builds with no trigger and you are supporting reels that are 12oz plus easily.
Thanks for the great info. I have found your videos very informative. I am currently looking at adding a heavier swimbait rod to get into the 4 - 8 ounce baits (I currently have the Cashion Icon rated to 3 ounces). I will be targeting bass, lake trout, landlock salmon, and northern pike. I was considering budget rods -- one for larger hardbaits with trebles and one for some larger jig style soft baits, but then thought maybe a higher end rod that was more of an all around would be a better option. I am currently considering the MB Orochi X10 Anaconda and the LDC 8' Heavy. Are they similar rods? I do like the 2 piece design of these rods as I cannot get an 8' rod in the truck and my old Ranger has a max rod locker of 7'2. Is there a difference in the utility of the ferrule designs? If I could handle an 8' one piece, I'd probably hold out for the Loomis 966, but for now that isn't an option. Can I handle both styles of baits with one or both of these rods? Would you recommend one over the other?
Thinking about picking up one of these. Are any of these versatile enough to perform well with both the 2 OZ class baits + something closer to the 4OZ weight? I'm thinking deps 175, Klash 9, tiny klash, chad shad obviously it wont be ideal for everything but im looking more for versatility as i usually fish from shore or kayak
Just for your information the over under wrap on fishing rods came about by a man named Doug Hannon who at the time in the 80s had 500 bass over 10 lb . There is definitely several reasons why to use the over under rod only one of which you touched on . Sometimes you just got to give credit where credit is due
I was wondering what are some lb test of fluorocarbon do you use? If it’s multiple can you tell me which ones? I’m planning to get a Levante 7’11 with a Calcutta 300, baits are things from i-slide 187- deps 250
The WCZ rods will be more geared towards his style of baits and fishing. Those rods will be faster action and better suited for beast hook style baits or soft baits in deeper water. The LDC rods are best for the hard bait stuff!
WCZ will be dropping his line of rods soon which will be better suited for soft baits but if you were to go with the LDC, I would go with the XH model so you have more power to slam the hook
Sorry a little off topic but I was wondering if you have ever used any of the savage gear line thru trout. I have been using them the last few years and they do a great job for me. Just didn't know if you had an opinion on them?
I tried out the SG line through when it first came out. Overall, I liked the idea of being able to rig it up top and down below. The action wasn’t bad either but I felt it was a little more on the snakey side so I never really put much time with it. For the price and all the other factors, it’s a pretty legit bait overall.
I currently have the G-loomis IMX-PRO 966 SWBR, and a Dobyns Champion XP 806. What would you recommend adding to my swimbait rods? I've been looking at the Mark 56, Triza Dragoon, the Tequila Baccarac, or one of these Low Down rods? I've been wanting something from them for years now.
For that, either the Mark 56 or the LDC MH, I find that I have more power with the LDC than the 56, the 56 is a great rod but I have felt under powered with it with the larger grade fish, 6-8lb class.
What’s up man, what swim bait rod do you recommend for tossing glides 2-5 ounces? I’m currently using a phenix m1 8ft swimbait rod but it feels like a broom stick
How well does the heavy action fish lighter baits, plz? For example ... a single rod to handle both a TK and a K9 in lieu of buying 2 rods to be more specialized.
Sweet rods! Do you happen to have the weights on these (especially interested in the XXH)? I am looking for a rod that would sit above my TS Blackjack (that I purchased from you guys) to throw Deps 250 and larger (single and treble hook baits). Thanks a lot!
Yoo man so recently Iv been tossing the klash ghost on the workshop xxh. Do you feel like the standard issue has that little bit extra strength in certain aspects of fishing it vs the workshop? Dope video as always man keep it up!
Just to preference, I have never used the workshop XXH, I have used the XH though and I would say the SI rods feel more parabolic and strong throughout the blank than the workshop rods
@@crazybassfisher so where do you find that the 8ft xxh excels over the 8’6 xxh or vise versa? I’m gonna give the SI a try but just hung up on lengths. Leaning on the 8ft because I don’t really ever see myself bombing a ghost in open water for the way our lakes set up.
Depends on what size you are looking to throw. For these rods, I would recommend going one power higher for throwing soft baits. Just gives the rod a little more power to drive the hook home
You can definitely just put it together and never take it apart, whenever I leave them together for a while, it’s almost impossible taking them apart 😂
I just got a older, berkley, E cat glass heavy action rod today for swimbaits. These beast rods were made for 100 pound cats on the rivers. They're kinda legendary and have a cult like following. Berkley stopped making the some years ago. It will handle 6 0z baits. It will be paired with a Daiwa prorex 400 with power handle and 50 lb fire line. That should handle a 50 pound trophy river striper! Hopefully

the low down that those rods are worthy to make legends.
Still crushin it with the Cardiff and guide select you suggested years ago bro! 🤘🤘
It’s a deadly combo! I caught a lot of fish on that setup when I was getting started!
Awesome job Geoffrey, you covered every detail 👏👏❤️
Thanks for watching homie🙏
Thanks for the breakdown. Now I know of a good Frenzy rod!
Thanks for watching my man 🙏

Good information on the spiral wrap stuff!
My favorites got me workshops and standard issues
Both models of rods are really nice!
Got my LDC 8H27 a couple of weeks ago and loving it!
Nice! That Heavy rod is legit!
Let’s fish ! I’m in Las Vegas Nevada !
I haven’t been to vegas since I was probably 6😂
great video thank you

Might have to get one for tiny Klash. Been using irod genesis 3 jr swim for the longest for tk.

I use the line thru pulse tails. Try the tough toads they are amazi g baits
Rods look nice. Do you know if there will ever be any split grip models ? Thanks
I’m actually not quite sure, it would be dope if they came in split grip though!

The heavy can definitely throw the TiK but I would almost rather go with the MH
hows the weight on them, are the rods pretty light for being swimbait rods?
Yes, I was pretty surprised by how light the rods were. Not as light as DRT rods but much lighter than Megabass TS destroyer rods
Sweet rods!

The rods are surprisingly light. If you compare the XXH to the Megabass TS King of Baccart, it is way lighter and better feeling!
@@crazybassfisher Thanks for the quick reply. Do you happen to have the exact weight of the 8'6 XX?

I have the megabass lavante leviathan swimbait rod what would u say that rod is best for swimbait or glide baits
That rod can do both but better suited for treble hook soft baits and glides
Thanks buddy. Send Ben a hello for me can't wait to get back out there and see what u guys have done to the shop heard it's getting a make over
how do they compare to the workshop series??
I find the SI versions to be more parabolic than the workshop, if you want something slightly more fast, the workshop is the deal.
what would be the model for soft plastics?

MY SHIMANO SKIXX 9FT. XH 8-18oz. MUSKY ROD -HAS THAT HANDLE SET UP ON IT- ITS TOTALLY ROCK SOLID" FEELS LIKE 1 PIECE ROD- IMHO
Compare action to the Workshop? Workshop is my favorite. Looking at a mh si
The SI is more parabolic throughout the blank. The workshops feel slightly more crisp
You ever used an Evergreen Orion The Throne?
I have not, is it a nice rod?
Awesome 😊
Thanks for watching!🙏
Leviathan.
Think I found my new rods
They are pretty nice rods for sure!
To me the best swimbait rod is the one you have.
This is first time I heard of a swimbait rod, I just try to match the weight of lure to weight range on rod
Not a fan of separate handle
You can definitely just put it together and never take it apart, whenever I leave them together for a while, it’s almost impossible taking them apart 😂
@@crazybassfisher that doesn’t change the fact it’s still a separate piece

Yeah, the Daiwa Dx swimbait rod is less than half the price and a great swimbait rod.
Yeah, the price is about the same as the other higher end swimbait rods on the market(Leviathan, Megabass, etc)

Spiral wrap = 👎
Anything putting the blank into the handle is trash
Why?
Have you had a bad experience with those types of rods?
I said the same til I tried this one. World of difference.
Says there trash but doesn't say why 🙄.
I strongly disagree. I have 2 of the new steez rods with the same type of handle & they are some of the best I own.
