    Hi Jen, I'm Jenna. I'm 13, and I made my sister and brother's graduation cakes by myself. I made Buttercream transfers of Sonic the Hedgehog and Jigglypuff (from pokemon) in homage to their childhood heroes. It worked very well, and I want to thank you for making this video- all of my family and friends were very impressed!

    Why is everyone complaining that she's making this cake for a boy? It's not like she said girls can't like pokemon lol...get your lives together.

    wow... you guys are so ignorant... she said it was going to a little special boy's birthday... that did NOT mean that only boy's like Pikachu... that particular cake was made for a little boy on HIS birthday...

    its a reverse of the image, so it's actually on the correct side when the image is flipped...as shown in the video.

    Happy birthday to the special boy who's getting the cake.
    People calm down the person she was making this cake for was probably a boy!

    I was so confused when she covered the entire pikachu in icing. Then it all made sense.

    @xxbubblesxx121 yes, all you need to use for this is buttercream...just make sure you freeze in between each layer application.

    I appreciate so much how you use all frosting on your cakes! This is something I've been advocating for a long time. I hate the look and taste of fondant and I've been trying to encourage people to use just frosting because there are so many cool ways (like this) to make amazing cakes without using nasty fondant.

    I’ve never used store bought frosting for frozen transfers before, but I’m willing to bet that there’s something in the store bought stuff that keeps it from freezing. Homemade buttercream is what I would recommend using. It’s easy to make, we have a couple videos in our channel is you want to learn.

  • @Cookiescupcakesandcardio
    @Cookiescupcakesandcardio  11 років тому

    Yes, you can make it ahead of time. I would store it in the freezer, as it needs to be frozen before you put it on the cake so it comes off the paper without bending.

  • @Cookiescupcakesandcardio
    @Cookiescupcakesandcardio  12 років тому

    thanks so much. i can assure you that the buttercream doesn't melt. it is frozen so you can pipe the variety of different layers, but when it is put on the cake and thaws, it keeps it's shape/design.

    Yes, it is all butter. We have a couple of videos up on our channel for the recipe....chocolate and vanilla.

  • @Cookiescupcakesandcardio
    @Cookiescupcakesandcardio  12 років тому

    Yup, same icing. Use food coloring gels to color the icing, not the common liquid food coloring you buy at the grocery store. There's a video on my channel on how to color icing.

  • @Cookiescupcakesandcardio
    @Cookiescupcakesandcardio  12 років тому

    @brendaf87 you could try buying pre-made icing, but since there are so many preservatives in them, i'm not sure if you would find them setting properly in the freezer. if you try it, let me know how it works out!

    The consistency of the buttercream depends on how much milk you are adding. If yours is too thick to pipe easily, add more milk, 1 tbsp at a time until you get the desired consistency.

    yeah you could and you'd need to do the same steps as shown here, do the outlines, freeze it, fill in, freeze it. you could also use "candy melting wafers" it tastes like white chocolate and it comes in various colours

    Frosting is an American term for icing, and buttercream is a type of icing. The reason that I use buttercream is because of the high butter content. When you are needing the transfer to freeze, the butter allows that to occur.

  • @Cookiescupcakesandcardio
    @Cookiescupcakesandcardio  11 років тому

    I haven't tried that, but I don't see why it wouldn't....you can put buttercream flowers onto fondant, so I assume this would work the same way. Good luck!

    I don't know what you mean by baking sheet, but for this technique you need to use wax paper. The icing sticks to the wax paper, and comes off cleanly when you flip the image over. You can always try what you have available though.

  • @Cookiescupcakesandcardio
    @Cookiescupcakesandcardio  12 років тому

    hopefully you have someone to make it for you, or you can make your own cake! we have videos on how to bake vanilla and chocolate cakes if you search the channel.

  • @Cookiescupcakesandcardio
    @Cookiescupcakesandcardio  11 років тому

    The rest of the icing is used to decorate the cake. But if you have a problem with having leftover icing, feel free to make half the recipe then.

  • @Cookiescupcakesandcardio
    @Cookiescupcakesandcardio  11 років тому

    As is on the pan, I wouldn't store it like that for more than 24 hours...but if you were able to fit the whole thing in a sealed container, you could do it for up to a couple weeks.

  • @Cookiescupcakesandcardio
    @Cookiescupcakesandcardio  12 років тому

    I know! But it totally all comes together in the end.

  • @Cookiescupcakesandcardio
    @Cookiescupcakesandcardio  12 років тому

    Yes … see the Hunger Games cupcakes video in our channel for a similar technique using melted chocolate.

  • @Cookiescupcakesandcardio

    I use Americolor gel paste and it has excellent results.

  • @Cookiescupcakesandcardio
    @Cookiescupcakesandcardio  11 років тому

    it stays in the form that you piped it. it's really great!

  • @Cookiescupcakesandcardio
    @Cookiescupcakesandcardio  11 років тому

    great! i haven't tried it, and i would guess that it would work out...as long as the cake doesn't warm up....then there might be "running" where the buttercream and fondant meet.

  • @Cookiescupcakesandcardio
    @Cookiescupcakesandcardio  11 років тому

    It has to be buttercream, or royal icing. Store bought, or any margarine/shortening based icing will not freeze.

  • @Cookiescupcakesandcardio
    @Cookiescupcakesandcardio  11 років тому

    Wax paper has been successful for me as the icing sticks to it when you flip the image over onto the cake.

  • @MelanieCramer
    @MelanieCramer 10 років тому

    The Betty Crocker ones are more oil-based with different types of sugars... It might not set very well.
    With butter, the chill from the freezer makes the butter go back into its hardened state, which makes the transfer from the wax paper to cake, much easier.

  • @Cookiescupcakesandcardio
    @Cookiescupcakesandcardio  11 років тому

    I haven't tried it with RI, but it probably would work. You might not need to freeze it in between each step, just let it dry.

  • @Cookiescupcakesandcardio
    @Cookiescupcakesandcardio  11 років тому

    I use my recipes, which are up on the channel for you. Good luck! I have never had a problem removing the paper from the icing. If you continue to have a problem, you might want to switch to a different brand of wax paper.

    You definitely do not want to leave a cake out on your counter for 2 days...especially if you are going to be serving it to other people. You will want to find room in your fridge to keep everything for spoiling. I transfer the FBT at the last moment and finish piping around it only hours before I serve/deliver it.

    Thank you for sharing this method! I was able to use this to create a "rainbow mermaid" cake for my 4yo on basically a day's notice (she changed her mind 2 days before the party, haha), and even though I'd never attempted this before, you explained it clearly and it felt totally-do-able! I don't think i can share a picture here (and I didn't actually have an icing bag so resorted to the ziploc plus toothpick method), and even so it came out respectable and got rave reviews by the parents at my girl's party. Thanks again :)

  • @Cookiescupcakesandcardio
    @Cookiescupcakesandcardio  12 років тому

    no, it doesn't get "gooey and soft". when it thaws it just goes back to its original buttercream consistency.

  • @Cookiescupcakesandcardio
    @Cookiescupcakesandcardio  11 років тому

    Unfortunately no, as the icing most likely doesn't stick to the parchment. You need a bit of stick for when you turn the image over and put it on the cake.

    I can't draw and I am not the best cake decorator- like at all- however, my son who is turning 7 wanted a pokemon cake. Well this mama is on a budget- and I found your video and I feel so saved! So I am getting my kiddo to draw out his idea cake topper (It needs Pikachu and oh mom 3 pokeballs!) and then I will totally do this transfer! I will likely just fill out around the cake with icing rather than ice the cakea huge amount ;) just so that it's not 3 pouncs of sugar ;) THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
