As much as I love your videos, I really understand you taking precautions. Please stay safe and when it's time I look forward to your wise advise and you slaying them!
You got me sold. I just ordered one. I inshore fish on a kayak and have come to only fish low profile bait casters. I’ve been using my Shimano Curado DC reels which I love and want to add another rod to the collection. I use Cashion rods as they are built 5 miles from where I live and I love them. I’ll post back when I get a chance to get out next, probably Thursday. Thank you!
I am seeing this video a couple years after you uploaded it and I am grateful I watched it. I appreciate your take on how the centrifugal braking systems need to be lubricated and the casting is inconsistent due to the change over time in the lubrication. I appreciate your video. I did sub today, hope it helps. Thanks.
Thanks for posting this up. I have 6 or 7 bait casters I’ve picked up over the years. Always used my thumb as the brake. I can toss 1/4 ounce plugs like nobodies business, but never had any luck with the 1/8 ounce. They always end up 4 or 5 feet in front. Thought it was my technique... I hate using egg beaters but I had to one using the real light bait. However today, my new coastal came in and I spilled it up with 20 pound braid. I put a genuine one 8 ounce casting plug on and was amazed to see it sail off into the distance !! I couldn’t believe it. Made me think the problem with the old school bait casters was the inertia in the spool. The bait would not launch and end up going straight down. This reel sings as the line is coming off
So glad to hear and see you are safe been wondering how you were doing and missing your video drops.as you know Florida is blowing up too and like you I have medical conditions that could very well turn fatal if contracted....very informative and as always professional advice I have fished Daiwa a lot in the past and always had great service will check into the new coastal stay safe and hopefully like you said times will return to normal soon.... looking forward to seeing your next drop and always a open invitation to come and fish .
Good to see you Ross. Staying safe here, just returned from Apalachicola Bay. The Trout were on fire, they hit everything I threw at them. We brought home a nice pile of fillets. Thanks for another good video. Take care brother.
Thanks for your time and insight. I'm thankful you're staying put and not taking the risk. This storm will pass and I'm hopeful your back on the water soon
Hello Ross from southeast Georgia. I'm a 15 min boat run from St Catherine's Island. Been watching you for a bit and just subscribed, really enjoy your videos. I grew up in the Savannah and Ogeechee rivers so the salt water is new for me but learned a good bit watching youtubers like you in the last year. Thank you for putting the time in. Just FYI to everyone I have 2 Daiwa Coastal SV reels. I love everything about the Coastal SV "BUT" the spool tension knob. It's slightly recessed in a rubber housing and makes it difficult to adjust, especially with wet fingers. Outside of that, it's another great Daiwa product. I've been a Daiwa man since 1980. I still have all my old Procasters. Like the Tatulas you can cast the CSV a country mile. Is it worth $250.00? Well that's personal preference, I always wait to catch a deal on Amazon or Ebay. Ross take care or yourself and keep up the the great videos. This heat here has put the brakes on my fishing. I have to catch the early morning tides before the 95 degree heat kicks in. Come on Oct!!! JT
John T Hey thanks John , your right about that tension knob , but for me I only adjust it once then never touch it again so it’s a non issue for me . Glad to hear you like the channel , Tight Lines !
@@redfishross That's the smart thing to do. Here on the east coast we get a good bit of wind and have to make adjustments for that. I just got in a Lew’s Custom Inshore Speed Spool, chomping at the bit to give it a try. May go tomorrow. Hope you guys are clear of hurricane Hanna. JT
Great to see you again! Yeah I'm in that group too. Always washing my hands and using sanitizer, I guess all we can do is the best we can, I like a hurricane now and then for the distraction. Hope to see you soon Ross !

I thought it was my technique. Today I was amazed. Hooked up at 1/8 ounce casting plug and watched it sail off into the distance
Welcome back, I have that reel and it's my favorite, it's light and powerful. I've caught some really nice redfish and speckled trout with this reel. I have mine paired with an ugly stik intercoastal 7ft medium. Take care and stay safe.👍
Glad to see the video on the reel. Your input is very helpful. Stay safe and we understand that everything is not normal these days. Look forward to another video from you when things are better. Take care.
Hope you’re doing well Ross. Been watching your channel for several months now and have learned a lot. Caught 2 over 30” this morning on the Chartruese/Bone Hunchback you use. You’re a hell of a good teacher. Would like to learn more about your retrieve for soft plastics. Looks like you pump instead of twitch. Thank you for what you do.
I've got the coastal cwt 200 and I like it. I have 30lb braid on it and it's not casting too far so I think I'm going to strip it and put 10lb or 15lb on it.

Great video Mr. Ross. I just got the lews custom inshore, and I can see what you mean about the uneven braking on it. I was thinking I'm just too picky about my reels, but I will oil the brakes now every trip. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Look forward to seeing future videos when it's time.
Ross, Thanks for sharing your opinion on the new Diawa Costal reel. I bought one about 6 months ago and I to am a believer. It’s smooth and casts farther than any reel I’ve ever owned.
The one you have is the Tatula CT type R. The regular CT I think is not as saltwater proof as the CT type R. I own that reel for 7 years and I fished it in saltwater and it’s as good as new today as it was when I got it. 😁👍👍👍🍺🍺🇺🇸 I also own the older Daiwa Coastal TWS 200 which I absolutely love for big Calico Bass fishing. Gotta have one ☝️😁😎👍👍👍🍺🍺🍺🎣🎣🎣 GOD Bless you and all your viewers and keep all you and your families safe. 🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🍺🍺
Nothing wrong with protecting your health. The fish will be waiting. Enjoyed the video and liked the longer term update on the reel. Love using mine for local seabass. Most of them in the bay don't get much bigger than 3 pounds ,often we only catch 12inchers. But they can put up a little fight . Fun throwing little lures 3/8th and under on 8-10lb for them. @@redfishross I got my Daiwa Coastal a couple days ago and, you're right, it's sweet! On the instructions Daiwa shows you how to set up the reel and they tell you to do it just like you showed in your video; a "loose" reel.

Hey Ross. How far should u be able to cast a bait caster to be successful? Have u ever thought of giving some bait casting tips. I could use some help with my distance. Thank you sir!
Bruce May With practice and tuning your reel you can get a lot of distance , look back a few videos and you will see one I did on how to get more distance.
Great review! What gear ratio do you prefer?
Thanks Allen , I like a 7.3 to 1
Nice information on the reel... no need to rush and make videos... stay safe.. myabe do tackle set ups, popping corcks comparison, etc..
Juan Alvear Thanks Juan.
What line do you use now? and why did you switch from copolymer?
I have never used copolymer , I use Braid or this Cofilament , here’s a video I did on it. ua-cam.com/video/A5GuyAq_zO8/v-deo.html
Do you think it casts as far as the diawa tatula elite those are my 2 options and I got to pick wisely.
Have not thrown the Elite so can’t say.
alright thanks for the answer Ive seen that you have the concept z does it cast farther than that.
@@BigOldBass Yes I think it does and my Z only lasted a year and a half then cratered.

On straight braid I use a Palomar knot and most others I use an improved clinch.

How do you clean a fishing reel after fishing in salt water? I need a reference for cleaning the reel after fishing in salt water. I used Daiwa Coastal SV
Cat Tuong Bui Here is a video I did on that. ua-cam.com/video/OJ2qx0v-kSY/v-deo.html
@@redfishross Thanks you so much
Hello Ross. Thanks for the great videos. I,m trying to duplicate this rig. There are many St Croix Mojo rods that are MHF7.6. If you have time could you let me know which model number? Thank you. BobB
No problem Robert , it’s a MYC76MHF Mojo Yak.
@@redfishross thanks for the reply
How's the drag? Have you had to do much maintenance?
ikashibimauler Drag is good , haven’t done anything to it yet.
@@redfishross I got my Daiwa Coastal a couple days ago and, you're right, it's sweet! On the instructions Daiwa shows you how to set up the reel and they tell you to do it just like you showed in your video; a "loose" reel.
I believe I see you on a Bass Pro Shop video!
@@AdventureeX Maybe , I have been there a few times.
Great video, I should not watch your equipment reviews. I ready to go by a Diawa Coastal SV. I am 71 and too am trying to be safe. I only been out three times during this mess with my son. His wife caught it and either her or cv our new grandson passed it to my wife. They had mild bouts, I have not had any. We will all be off quaranteen on Tues. keep safe brother.
