Makaiah s I know because what the hell is Joey complaining about? His Mom was trying to fix his clothes and Joeys Mom felt bad not realizing Joey would mind if she cut some fabric from his old jean jacket trying to fix his jeans, before Joey budded in telling her it's child abuse she probably was gonna say "I'm sorry Joey I didn't think you'd mind", on top of it Joey had a fridge full of food, nice clothes and clean house and loving parents, for Rick not only did he suffer abuse but neglect too as well, no food hardly in the fridge and a piece of crap Father and everything he had was used I'm curious if the both Joey and Rick were to be in kids of degrassi street how'd they would look it would've been cool had they been on kids of degrassi street too.
Well that's the joke of the storyline. The writers (because this is a tv show btw) decided to show a before and after of how Rick getting rescued not only affected Rick, but Joey too. Being a part of that experience helped Joey realize he shouldnt take simple things for granted and be grateful for what he has. That's why he's much more subtle in later seasons if you didn't notice. He's also just a typical kid with hormones so...
Makaiah s well yes at least Joey a good friend to Rick he helped him to get Rick out of that unhealthy environment Rick deserves better then that and his dad needs help.
Capgunggoesbang Plus with the issue of Rick and Craig's Father's being physically abusive to their own Son's Miles Hollingsworth ||| is the same exact incident from Degrassi and Degrassi: Next Class!
Capgungoesbang I think Rick is a lot like Sean more so because they both have alcoholic parents well for Rick he had one Parent, they each have an older Brother and they both are into Motorcycles and their Brothers too, they both come from poor living conditions and they both have a social worker they have lots in common such as the personality traits and behavioural problems. The only things I can think of for Rick and Craig is they both have an abusive Father but other then that their personalities are different Craig despite when he was being abused he still was cheerful, happy and smiling where as Rick like Sean was always brooding and barely smiled and kept to himself a lot. For Craig's Father he even though he was abusive toward Craig he was successful and was a surgeon they had a huge house and were well off so to speak while Rick's Dad and Sean's Parents were drunks. Degrassi is and great show! I love kids of degrassi street too also.:)
he was a okay at the dance for the fund raiser but all in all he was always serious, when he caught Rick grabbing Yick and Arthur I'm surprised he didn't talk to him or take Rick right to the office or find out why he's grabbing them, because Mr. Raditch seemed strict all the time, and even when Joey fell off his skateboard and didn't follow the rules Mr. Raditch just sent him to the office didn't even if he was okay because Joey was bleeding and I know it's a tv show but I think Mr. Raditch needed to lighten up.
In an episode of the next generation where jimmy hazel toby Sean and Ellie are in detention It has this scene where he's working out It was ok and showed he's not always serious
ROCK AUSTIN I noticed that too it's too bad we don't see Joeys Father, I wonder what happened to him maybe he just works long hours and his Moms a stay at home Mom but Joeys so fortunate to have both parents where the Dad helps the mom out with chores.
Seth Klatt I thought the jokes sucked lol Now if they really wanted to get Rick to smile instead of telling him the stupid jokes, they could've tried giving Rick money to have him smile first Rick would have to smile then she'd give him the money. Lol
Neglected Shoe That's true because she wants Joey to live in a clean house plus wants what's best for him and he definitely should be grateful to have loving parents who care about him, while some parents like Ricks stupid Father doesn't care about providing a clean place and doing what's best for Rick and let him live in a dirty filthy apartment with hardly any food and didn't act like a parent to him which is very sad, at least Joey's Mom asks him how his day is while Rick doesn't ever get asked how his day was or how he is and just complains about his day and money. Joeys mom should've asked Joey first if it was okay to cut his jean jacket rather then just going and cutting it but she probably thought maybe she wouldn't mind and at least his parents bought him a new one to wear and Rick has old worn out clothes used clothes.
aww i love joey, this experience is probably one of the things that made him such a kind and compassionate father and stepfather for craig I thought these old episodes would be too corny to watch but they're really just as good
Alyssa algorythm same here because this experience also showed him how a parent should never act towards their own children and he learned a lot from it, I like the type of Father Joey is with Angela and Craig it would've been cool to see a follow up episode to this one on if Ricks Father got help and if he, Rick and his older Brother reunited became a happy family again.
Chelsea I do I knew it right away when I first saw Sean on the new degrassi, I wonder who has the more anger management and behavioural problems, Rick or Sean? It's hard to tell.
Sean never had a reason to be a bad boy imo. The only reason he had a bad boy rep was because of some stupid fight he got into in middle school and always starting fights. He had parents that loved him but for some reason he just acted like he hated them because they sent him away for his own good. Rick was getting abused by his father so he has plenty reason to be angry. So I think Rick had the more anger and behavioural problems even if we didn't really see enough of it.
LiveFree&LoveForever I understand what you're saying and Sean's parents did love him but they didn't make good choices but sending Sean to live with his Brother Tracker was the best choice they made to keep him from going to jail, Sean probably felt like he hated his parents because they drank and Sean's Brother sets a good example for him as well. I guess for Rick he did have his own reasons for having the bad boy rep because his Father was abusive both physically and mentally while Sean's was just neglecting him Sean only gets mad at people if they make him upset like if they start a fight with but Sean can keep his temper in check but because of actually suffering from abuse for Rick the anger is more physical like when he punched the locker after the teacher talked to him about not handing in his homework Rick also spoke rudely to others as well if they told him something that he didn't want to hear yeah they each have different temperaments I agree.
Percybeth Forever yeah I like his smile too and in the episode afterwards too, living with his older Brother must be a lot of fun and a positive influence on him I like when he kept saying he won $100 dollars in the lottery and shared his treat with the other kids.
Craps Malloy I was wondering too because the character Craig has the same name as the guy who played Rick, you're right the story line are equivalent because both Rick and Craig Manning were abused by their Dads. Although I'm surprised Joey when he helped Craig his stepson that they didn't go right to children's aid after taking Craig to live with him I thought this would happen when I first saw this episode but maybe Craig didn't want to. For Rick it's good that at joeys house had a social worker there so something could get done to help Rick, although it's too bad there isn't a scene after when Rick shows the social worker where he lives after leaving joeys house and the social worker talks to Ricks Father to find out what's happening. I like how Rick talks about how cool his Brother is, it's too bad we don't see his older Brother Frank it would've been cool to see what he's like with Rick and personality and appearance wise ect.
This is a great episode for adults wanting to become parents or who are parents I love the 80's episodes of degrassi and even if it's the 80's or 2017. This sends a good message and that is if you're not emotionally stable and willing to be a proper parent or financially stable then don't have kids because it's not fair for them to have to suffer. It's sad when people treat their kids like shit there are people out there that don't deserve to be parents and Rick's Dad is one of them in this episode, and neither does his Mom because she left Rick and his older Brother to suffer how dare she do that to them.
The kid in the frame at 2:51 doesn't even look like Joey. I swear it's a double or something and that wouldn't make sense because the "stunt" is over. Looks nothing like him in the face and the skin tone and over all build is off.
When Joey went Rick's place after school to buy Rick's jean jacket which his Brother gave him I'm surprised Joey didn't say nothing to Rick about his hygiene or anyone else in the class or Mrs. Avery, I like how Joey had great manners to Rick and tried being nice to his Dad even though he didn't bother with him. Joey is cool and let Rick use his tools to fix his bike which was very nice of him.
BlessedAngelDiamond I think Rick's Dad is more terrifying because of the way his Dad yells and grabs Rick before he beat him, the sound of Rick while he's getting beaten up was scary too.
BlessedAngelDiamond yeah I agree with you and Craig's Dad showed his happy side to Craig and acted like a Dad to Craig at least and they both looked clean and like a million bucks. Rick's Dad never treated Rick nicely he never said nothing nice to Rick at all and complained about money I'm wondering what his Dad for a job but both Rick and his Dad didn't look clean and Ricks clothes looked worn out, his Dad looked hung over or drunk. Rick had more visible bruises than Craigs did. I'm wondering when he says to Rick after getting mad at Rick what he meant by "I had plans for that money gonna get out of town". What did his Dad mean by while beating Rick screaming "I had enough I've told you I had enough"?
Eurodance90schick I was wondering what he does too I mean he waers a suit so he should be making enough money to at least support them what job does he have that he gets mad at Rick for buying a $1.50 magazine and how can u get outta town with money from recycling bottles. His Dad's fucked up.
Eurodance90schick he probably meant he had enough of Rick doing things to piss him off, first the magazine, then talking back to him (telling him "yeah right" when he said he was going to get outta town with the money Rick used to pay for the magazine which he was in the right to say in my opinion) then giving Joey a soda. It's like the smallest things sets him off.
LetmeSleepThroughThenightAndISingAndDanceForYou I remember that word broom head and Rick also said to another kid when he asked if he can help with the play he tells the kid "get lost you little Narbo" what does Narbo mean?.
The twins on this show actually lived in the same town as me being only seven when these aired I did t really watch that much and just recently found out where they lived lol
cws480 he sure does he's got the 80's mullet going on lol. I wonder what his job is since he wears a suit and tie. I'm guessing he works in an office or because there's a restaurant beside the building where he lives maybe he works in the restaurant. Rick's Dad's voice and appearance is scary though especially when he yells a beats Rick up, when he said to Rick "I had plans for that money, gonna get out of town" it's too bad it wasn't confirmed what his Dad's plans were for that money and if he was gonna involve Rick in them. It would've been awesome to see what Rick's older Brother Frank is like personality and appearance wise and from the way Rick talks about he seems like like an awesome Brother, with the way Rick's Dad was when he asked Rick about his older Brother Frank it sounds like he has grudge against him and what became of Rick's Dad once Rick moved out, I hope their Dad got help.
I feel angry watching how Rick is being treated like a punching bag. I didn't like that at all, especially when it happened in front of Joey. If I were in Joey's shoes, I would have called Children's Aid Society.
Dee Colas same here and when I saw it the first time I had to cover my eyes the way Rick's Dad looks is scary as well it was during the teaser when he goes and slams Rick against the table and when Joey sees a bit of the beating Rick gets before running down the stairs. I know it's just a show but I just had a thought couldn't Rick just run out the door with Joey even though he isn't his friend to avoid getting beaten? They were both at the door to get out. Rick and Joey could've rode on their skate board and bike to Ricks Brothers place quickly and let his Dad stay upstairs in the apartment. I wonder if ricks older brother Frank knew how bad their loser dad was. It could be my imagination but the Dad looked hung over or hammered (drunk).
babd71 Ikr I they were just trying to cheer him up but those jokes sucked and I can see why he didn't crack a smile for those, what Caitlyn and her friend could've done was try and make conversation him.
I was really hoping that Joey yelled "Rick..Rick come with me lets get out of here" and pulled him out away from his Dad Rick could've avoided that time.
LiveFree&LoveForever both Craig Driscoll is awesome, I was always wondering this too yeah he's very fit and I like Ricks hair style and wardrobe too!. I was always wondering where did Rick get those cool t shirts they're very nice and the fall/winter jacket. I was curious how he would've looked like if he would've been on Degrassi High if he would look the exact same or if he would've looked different.
pregamer23 he had some huge muscles that's for sure, I thought he lifted weights he was very strong when he grabbed Arthur and Yick when he got mad them for following him around he was strong.
garrick reynolds yeah it is super rad because now he's living a better quality of life and he's happier then he was, you can see the difference actually with Rick and that is when he lived with his Father he always looked unhappy and dirty appearance wise also with his clothes too. When he lives with his older Brother he looks happy and like a million bucks with his appearance and clothes and I wonder where he got those cool motorcycle t shirts from too. Its cool how Rick likes to talk about his older Brother a lot but he must be a great big Brother who sets a good example for him. Its too bad we never see him and it would've been nice to see a follow up if Ricks Dad changed for the better and got help himself and if him Rick and his older Brother Frank reunited as close family again.
This was a great episode but a sad and scary one but I found it disgusting how Ricks Dad was treating him for no reason Rick didn't do anything to his Dad and didn't deserve to get beaten up. I wondering a couple things through out this episode and they are what his Dad mean when he says at the beginning before he goes after Rick "I had plans for that money gonna get outta town", Was the plans for him and Rick or just him? Did Rick start getting abused when he was repeating grade 7? Or since he was very little? What did Ricks Dad mean when he yelled at Rick while he was bitching at him and telling him "I've had enough I told you I've had enough"?. I was happy when Ricks older Brother takes him and has him live with him it's too bad we don't see Ricks Brother in the series and Degrassi High I bet he's a better parent towards Rick and I wonder too if he's like Sean Cameron's Brother Tracker where Frank looks out for Rick and makes sure he stays out of trouble like how Tracker looked out for Sean.
Sambam _kcbriggs no you're not the only one I agree with you because Craig and Rick's Dad was abusive to them but Craig smiled and was a very happy person despite he was suffering from abuse, he did a good job trying to hide it but could only do it for so long Craig's Dad was a surgeon and they were well off so to speak although. Rick always looked angry all the time and so did Sean as well but it's not confirmed if Sean Dad was abusive he maybe was just neglecting Sean and so did his Mom and they were an alcoholic just like Rick's Dad and unfortunately both Sean and Rick were both poor which sucks but I agree Rick, Sean and Craig have the same sort story lines with abuse.
Joey in retrospect was so darn spoiled. If I had talked to My Parents like that, I would have gotten a major "Reading" . You do not pay the bills, put food on the table, pay for your own clothes, you're grades aren't up to par, you don't do any chores, and you don't even have a Paper Route, so until you can prove to me you are worthy of what you have, don't you ever talk to us like that." I loved their Tea Set. Mrs. Jeremiah's Acting improved alot since this episode.
I remember we watched this once a week in primary school. We watched all of Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High. I watched Degrassi: The Next Generation in my own time too. For those of you who don’t know, primary school is basically school for kids ages six to twelve. Pretty sure I was grade 5 and 6 when we started, which meant I was 11 and 12.
RaychoolSims you'll like kids of degrassi street when you watch it I didn't know that there was another degrassi before degrassi junior high until I checked the Internet and found this out and I then got the DVDs of the episodes and I really liked it the very first time, you could try checking out iTunes and google play and see if they have the episodes. I watched degrassi junior way back and I reminded me so much of my childhood in the 80's. This episode scared me when I first saw it because the beating scenes where Ricks Dad goes after Rick and beats him was so sudden his Dad looks scary, Rick was a cool character in the show it's too bad he didn't come back in Degrassi High, I wonder if he was in degrassi high if he'd look the same as he does in junior high or different.
Candace Cardinal-Pechawis Ricks Dad was an asshole for calling his own child a punk when he is the real punk not Rick, If Ricks Dad is that upset about not having anything to drink in the fridge he should go out and get some more bottles of Coke and Rick never said nothing bad all he said was yeah right to his Dad ,and also I'm curious as to what plans does his idiot father have for that money Rick used the bottles to turn them into get the motor cycle magazine.
Princess Lavender I thought it was pretty good, I thought it was sad though when he tells Joey everything I've gots used and the scenes were well done. Was it Ricks acting parts during the beating scenes or over all?
SimsMoyal I agree like I saw the up to date degrassi it's okay the first few seasons of DTNG but it's never the same this degrassi in the 80's I prefer the 80's kids of degrassi street, junior high and degrassi over the modern one any day.
Cece Dean it sure was sad and scary and its so terrible how Rick's Dad abused him, the very beginning part where he comes at Rick and slams him against the table just for returning some bottles to buy himself a magazine and all because he says "yeah right" and the part where Rick's Dad beats him up for giving Joey a bottle of Coke was scary and sad to watch. I had to cover my eyes the first time I watched the episode What the hell is Rick's Dad's problem? Rick can't have anything nice? He has a right to buy stuff that he enjoys. I'm curious as to what the plans were for that money and if he was gonna include Rick in them or not. Why didn't his Dad buy some Coke or juice on the way home from work? Would Rick have RAD and other emotional/behavioural disorders from all the years of abuse from his Dad? It doesn't take long for Rick to lose his temper.
This episode is sad and I wonder if Rick got beatings starting at a very young age like 3 or 5 or just after failing grade 7, this is something one day when I went to Walmart I saw a replica of Rick's Dad which was something the guy sounded and looked the same and I thought omg lol. He was complaining about the prices lol to the customer service and kept getting a price check on stuff It would've been cool to see if Ricks Dad got help for his issues which he had and if Rick and his brother Frank reunited with him again.
If you want that just download and crop the sides. That's essentially what they did. The original aspect ratio was actually 1.85:1 but they fitted it to traditional TV sets of the time.
I don't know about that :( They filmed this so many years ago and probably don't have that 1.85:1 footage even if it exists. However, this video is stretched 4:3 to fit the screen.
Stephanie and her friend Voula were in grade 8 and Arthur and Yick were in grade 7, Rick the kid who was getting abused was supposed to be in grade 8 but failed grade 7 and had to repeat the grade over again.
Ikr if Rick lived on the main floor he could've went out through his bedroom window and took off and rode on his bike to his Brothers house and his Dad picked a bad apartment it looks way too small and cramped he should've picked a bigger better one what Rick could've also done is say "Dad don't ever think about hitting me ever again or I'm calling the police".
Eurodance90schick+ Easier said than done. It's why abused women stay with their violent partners. It takes a lot of courage to walk out of those situations.
Will Scarlett okay I see what you mean you're right, well in this case Ricks a child so it makes it hard when you have an abusive parent because usually kids have to be with the parent unless like in this episode where his social worker took him out of the abusive household. Rick I'm sure wanted to walk away but was scared that if he did his Dad would find him.
You know , the content in these isn't actually deplorable. Usually it's trash. I mean, it's the kind of stuff that makes you want to keep watching for sure. Drama to the max. But it's not like...morally sound. They usually don't LEARN A LESSON.They just do bad things. Lol. I like this show.
Ryan Cooper yeah he does rule! Ricks catch phrases are "yeah, yeah" and "catch you later" it sound like he has a bit of a lisp when talks sometimes, he only wears t-shirts and the same jean jacket. I wonder where he got the cool t-shirts the motorcycle ones, he's not a fan of wearing sweaters but if they had hoodies he'd probably wear those.
Ikr Caitlyn thought he he was on probation because she thought it was for beating someone up but it wasn't even confirmed for sure if he even was or not.
I'm wondering even if though it's not confirmed if Rick was on probation or not if he was on probation for stealing since he lived in poor abusive living conditions, I wonder if Rick has stolen stuff when living with his abusive Father I hope he hasn't. I agree it was for sure if Rick was a thief or not but his nap sack hardly had nothing in it I noticed.
maria larancuent I’d like to think it’s because they’re regular kids with 0 acting experience which makes it feel more real to me. That’s why I prefer Degrassi JH and DH to The Next Generation because the kids and show seems more realistic. The kids in TNG look like high school seniors rather than middle schoolers wearing over the top makeup. 😊
Mini mum Joeys style isn't too bad but he likes wearing those hats and Hawaiian shirts a lot, Joey didn't have to get upset at his mom for cleaning his room and it's good Rick invited Joey over to buy the used Jean jacket from him and it gave Joey an eye opener that not everyone has it as good as he does.
Ary why did you start laughing when Ricks Dad started beating him? It was scary to watch the first time I saw the episode, poor Rick I feel bad for him his Dad's an asshole and I never laughed when Rick was getting beaten and his Dad gets mad way too much.
Ary okay I understand what you mean, I have to say though that I thought the acting was very good and at the part where Rick's Dad finds out Rick gave Joey the last bottle of Coke to drink when he goes after Rick it looks very realistic as to how an abusive parent would act when he grabs Rick and starts beating him. Also it was very well done how Rick sounded while he was getting beaten and you hear glass shattering and I don't know if it's just me or not but it sounded like Ricks Dad smashed one of the Coke bottles on his head or against the wall it looked like he cornered Rick too I thought both actors did a good job.
THE DAD DIDN'T EVEN WAIT FOR JOEY TO LEAVE.
Joey whining over a jacket and claiming it's child abuse, while Rick actually suffers from abuse
Makaiah s ikr

Lol😅😢
Makaiah s well yes at least Joey a good friend to Rick he helped him to get Rick out of that unhealthy environment Rick deserves better then that and his dad needs help.
the guy and his dad at the beginning reminds me of Craig and his dad
Indigo Child totally. The characters can be similar. Same lessons for new generations, I guess.
I knew someone is going to say that
Craig character was inspired by him
Rick is like a mix of both Sean and Craig's storylines, and Joey reminds me of JT. I can see where Next Generation got its inspiration, I love it!
Capgunggoesbang Plus with the issue of Rick and Craig's Father's being physically abusive to their own Son's Miles Hollingsworth ||| is the same exact incident from Degrassi and Degrassi: Next Class!
Capgungoesbang Joey does reminds me of JT a lot.
Degrassi is and great show! I love kids of degrassi street too also.:)
Capgungoesbang I agree it's cool how they do that reminds me of Zig to has his personality to oh Joey.
Capgungoesbang yeah I noticed that aswell
If Joey only knew that in a couple more years he was gonna end up with a step son in the same situation Rick is in. 😞
angel m. WHICH IS WHY HE RECOGNIZED WHAT WAS HAPPENING TO CRAIG.
babd71 OMFG
Anyone else come here from Degrassi next generation and keeps seeing Spike in the background
Those girls trying to make Rick smile were so cute aw, such a nice gesture
Marianna Robles Ikr or even better go right up to Rick and give him a nice big hug that would've made Ricks day. Lol
So Radditch hasn't been fun since...ever.
he was a okay at the dance for the fund raiser but all in all he was always serious, when he caught Rick grabbing Yick and Arthur I'm surprised he didn't talk to him or take Rick right to the office or find out why he's grabbing them, because Mr. Raditch seemed strict all the time, and even when Joey fell off his skateboard and didn't follow the rules Mr. Raditch just sent him to the office didn't even if he was okay because Joey was bleeding and I know it's a tv show but I think Mr. Raditch needed to lighten up.
In an episode of the next generation where jimmy hazel toby Sean and Ellie are in detention
It has this scene where he's working out
It was ok and showed he's not always serious
lol wasn't that The Breakfast Club episode XD
Low-key foreshadowed future Joey's experience with Craig 💔
MariahMireles right 😭❣️
MariahMireles Not to mention Miles Hollingsworth ||| too!
Foreshadowing no
But they are really similar and I'm glad joey was also there for rick and craig
IRONY OVERLOAD!!
When Joey had hair!
thats a wig bro
how come today's he doesn't wear a wig than ?
when he was a child he had hair now he lost it.
He old I think he like 48 year old right now
Ikr
Probably the only episode you get to see Joey Jeremiah's father in the entire series.
ROCK AUSTIN I noticed that too it's too bad we don't see Joeys Father, I wonder what happened to him maybe he just works long hours and his Moms a stay at home Mom but Joeys so fortunate to have both parents where the Dad helps the mom out with chores.
ROCK AUSTIN good thing this is the only episode that we see Ricks Dad. Lol
ROCK AUSTIN also they say they’ve raised 4 kids...so Joey has siblings...where? Never mentioned again
I'm enjoying these old episodes more than I expected
TheJrockfreak the new version sucks I totally enjoy the old episodes better
(*˘︶˘*).。.:*♡
agreed!
TheJrockfreak me too
The original series is the one i grew up with. I remember watching this on PBS when it aired
I didn’t know tripping over bikes by accident was considered horseplay. God the 80’s were stiff.
Caitlin and Susie trying to make him smile the whole episode was really adorable
Caitlin's heart is in the right place, but that turtle joke sucked
Seth Klatt 😂
Seth Klatt I thought the jokes sucked lol Now if they really wanted to get Rick to smile instead of telling him the stupid jokes, they could've tried giving Rick money to have him smile first Rick would have to smile then she'd give him the money. Lol
interesting theory
it was so bad that it was almost good.
lol different time back then i would say
1. Joey should be grateful his mother cleaned his room.
2. I agree, she shouldn't have cut his jean jacket.
Joey and Caitlin barely look different when they're older
aww i love joey, this experience is probably one of the things that made him such a kind and compassionate father and stepfather for craig
I thought these old episodes would be too corny to watch but they're really just as good
Alyssa algorythm same here because this experience also showed him how a parent should never act towards their own children and he learned a lot from it, I like the type of Father Joey is with Angela and Craig it would've been cool to see a follow up episode to this one on if Ricks Father got help and if he, Rick and his older Brother reunited became a happy family again.
This is so unbelievably 80's. I love it!
"he's smiling!!"
no thanks to you, caitlin lmao
THIS IS HOW HE KNEW HIS STEPSON, CRAIG WAS BEING ABUSED BY HIS BIO DAD.
IT'S BEEN AWHILE SINCE I'VE WATCHED DJH. NOW, I GET IT.
Who else thinks Sean was molded after Rick
Chelsea I do I knew it right away when I first saw Sean on the new degrassi, I wonder who has the more anger management and behavioural problems, Rick or Sean? It's hard to tell.
Eurodance90schick I grew up on the next generation so it's for me to realize the next generation copied Degrassi junior high n Degrassi high
LiveFree&LoveForever Sean's parents were alcoholics which is why he wasn't with them.
THAT ENDING GOT ME EMOTIONAL
Same
Aww seeing rick smile was great
Percybeth Forever yeah I like his smile too and in the episode afterwards too, living with his older Brother must be a lot of fun and a positive influence on him I like when he kept saying he won $100 dollars in the lottery and shared his treat with the other kids.
Rick and Caitlin are the 80s Sean and Emma
joey is so much like JT
This theme song though 😂
I'm surprised they sent him to the principal office for getting hurt
it's not for getting hurt it's for disobey the rules that teacher told him he was warned not to ride there.
Goldstein Rae yeah
Joey was so cute
OH MY GOD I LOVE JOEY HES SO FUNNY
Chris wtf is wrong with you i didnt even do anything
kishigod he's just stating the obvious
Love joeeyyy no,wonder they chose him to come back in TNG
YES THE ICONIC 80S EPS
lisa ugh FPS? or are u talking about something else.
I wonder if Craig from TNG got his name from the actor who played Rick, Craig Driscoll, seeing as both characters had abusive dads.
Rick is like sean and craig
Hoda Elghitany I agree, although Is Ricks anger like Sean's? Or Craig's? Are there any differences?.
19:40 Joey: My folks never hit me
7:45 Joey: *Y O U K N O W W H A T T H I S I S C H I L D A B U S E*
Rick and Joey have many things in common!!
Those two kids fit very well as friends..
too bad this is the only episode they interact XD
Omg bb caitlyn. She was ALWAYS so pretty. Its not fair lol.
Whose Dad is more terrifying Rick's or Craig's?
BlessedAngelDiamond I think Rick's Dad is more terrifying because of the way his Dad yells and grabs Rick before he beat him, the sound of Rick while he's getting beaten up was scary too.
Eurodance90schick yeah I thought so too. The way Ricks dad can just go from normal to psycho is scary as hell.
Joey is sooo ungrateful, I will never be able to say and do that to my parents
What the hell does broomhead mean. Or is that as mean as Canadians get.
Lol it was just 80s slang I guess.
broomhead mean A Dumb Person
sickhater380 A broomhead is someone a lot like you.
LetmeSleepThroughThenightAndISingAndDanceForYou I remember that word broom head and Rick also said to another kid when he asked if he can help with the play he tells the kid "get lost you little Narbo" what does Narbo mean?.
It was only on the show. No one else ever used it haha. Strictly degrassi.
The twins on this show actually lived in the same town as me being only seven when these aired I did t really watch that much and just recently found out where they lived lol
Joey literally goes through this with Craig in Degrassi TNG.
I'm 80's Kid Still Watching This 2018 👍👍👍
2:50 That's not even Joey!
When you look at the characters real name, Rick's real name is Craig
Rick's father has some outrageous hair! Awesome!
cws480 he sure does he's got the 80's mullet going on lol.
Rick need to tell someone about his dad.I feel sorry for Rick.😥
I feel angry watching how Rick is being treated like a punching bag. I didn't like that at all, especially when it happened in front of Joey. If I were in Joey's shoes, I would have called Children's Aid Society.
The teacher is such a JERK 😡
this ep was so sad. remember when I first saw it
Dee Colas shh
Chris why are you telling everyone to shhh? (๑• . •๑)
Dee c. I can't say that I remember when you saw it as my life doesn't revolve around you.
There’s an unhappy pickle ⤴️
I wonder why the Principal Mr. Lawrence always hid in his office?
It's the Craig story 😭😭
WHAT IS UP WITH CAITLIN AND HER FRIEND AND THEIR "JOKES" TARGETING RICK? IT WAS WEIRD.
babd71 Ikr I they were just trying to cheer him up but those jokes sucked and I can see why he didn't crack a smile for those, what Caitlyn and her friend could've done was try and make conversation him.
Watching Degrassi junior high brings back good and bad memories of high school
Rick.... Rick Rick Rick.... Oh my the Rick's something's always gotta happen...
I was really hoping that Joey yelled "Rick..Rick come with me lets get out of here" and pulled him out away from his Dad Rick could've avoided that time.
I know a Canadian Tire skateboard when I see one.
How is rick that jacked for his age?
Craig Driscoll, the actor that played him said he did a lot of break dancing and rode dirtbikes while he was doing this. He was 15 btw : )
Man that's super rad that kid isn't getting hit anymore!
garrick reynolds yeah it is super rad because now he's living a better quality of life and he's happier then he was, you can see the difference actually with Rick and that is when he lived with his Father he always looked unhappy and dirty appearance wise also with his clothes too.
Really digging this.
This intro is actually good
Am I the only one who thinks Rick is a mix of Craig and Sean
Mrs. Jeremiah's Acting improved alot since this episode.
this remember me of Craig's story
Chris Jarma same
SAMEE
Chris Jarma same here.
Chris Jarma I cried
Chris Jarma yep
I remember we watched this once a week in primary school. We watched all of Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High. I watched Degrassi: The Next Generation in my own time too.
For those of you who don’t know, primary school is basically school for kids ages six to twelve. Pretty sure I was grade 5 and 6 when we started, which meant I was 11 and 12.
RaychoolSims that's awesome it's a good show and have you seen kids of degrassi street?:)
No, I have not, but I think one day I will. :)
What did you say to me?
Punk
Candace Cardinal-Pechawis Ricks Dad was an asshole for calling his own child a punk when he is the real punk not Rick, If Ricks Dad is that upset about not having anything to drink in the fridge he should go out and get some more bottles of Coke and Rick never said nothing bad all he said was yeah right to his Dad ,and also I'm curious as to what plans does his idiot father have for that money Rick used the bottles to turn them into get the motor cycle magazine.
I really like this episode
Lol Ricks acting lmao
Princess Lavender I thought it was pretty good, I thought it was sad though when he tells Joey everything I've gots used and the scenes were well done. Was it Ricks acting parts during the beating scenes or over all?
soooooo sean is definitely rick
Erin Hale No Craig
Craig with a few sprinkles of Sean. Mostly Craig for sure.
The original episodes are much better - those days everything is so cheaply conducted.
SimsMoyal I agree like I saw the up to date degrassi it's okay the first few seasons of DTNG but it's never the same this degrassi in the 80's I prefer the 80's kids of degrassi street, junior high and degrassi over the modern one any day.
Eurodance90schick umm Degrassi next class is the newest one.
5 ads on 1 video really 🙄
how come???
SimsMoyal $$$
i got that - but FIVE times over the course of 25 minutes ?
They're a lot less ads than there were on actual television.
it's so annoying
The turtle joke wasn’t very funny
This was sad
Isn't Rick the same name of that guy who was beating up terry
Yes
This episode is sad and I wonder if Rick got beatings starting at a very young age like 3 or 5 or just after failing grade 7, this is something one day when I went to Walmart I saw a replica of Rick's Dad which was something the guy sounded and looked the same and I thought omg lol. He was complaining about the prices lol to the customer service and kept getting a price check on stuff It would've been cool to see if Ricks Dad got help for his issues which he had and if Rick and his brother Frank reunited with him again.
I can’t wait until Joey and Caitlin get together
uploaded on my bday :)
why does the bell sound like a train
Cait and her friend stare way too much
I miss this degrassi way better then the new one
Please upload these in their original aspect ratio, 4:3.
If you want that just download and crop the sides. That's essentially what they did. The original aspect ratio was actually 1.85:1 but they fitted it to traditional TV sets of the time.
Eric Daley I've seen a few people say that? what's wrong with the way it is here?I'm just curious?
The show was not shot at 4:3
I don't know about that :( They filmed this so many years ago and probably don't have that 1.85:1 footage even if it exists. However, this video is stretched 4:3 to fit the screen.
If this is stretched then I stand corrected.
how old is stefanie and her friend? also what grade is joey, Arthur, asian guy with the basketball , and the guy who was being abused?
Stephanie and her friend Voula were in grade 8 and Arthur and Yick were in grade 7, Rick the kid who was getting abused was supposed to be in grade 8 but failed grade 7 and had to repeat the grade over again.
its funny, his name is rick and he kinda looks like white boy rick!
The Tortoise 😂
Omg Rick😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
why can't Rick just ran away from home?
All these ads😑😑
IM HELLA EARLY HAHA
great
rick rolls
Ryan Cooper yeah he does rule! Ricks catch phrases are "yeah, yeah" and "catch you later" it sound like he has a bit of a lisp when talks sometimes, he only wears t-shirts and the same jean jacket. I wonder where he got the cool t-shirts the motorcycle ones, he's not a fan of wearing sweaters but if they had hoodies he'd probably wear those.
I heard Rick Munro was on probation for what i had no clue
Mike Melvyn ?
Ikr Caitlyn thought he he was on probation because she thought it was for beating someone up but it wasn't even confirmed for sure if he even was or not.
I'm wondering even if though it's not confirmed if Rick was on probation or not if he was on probation for stealing since he lived in poor abusive living conditions, I wonder if Rick has stolen stuff when living with his abusive Father I hope he hasn't. I agree it was for sure if Rick was a thief or not but his nap sack hardly had nothing in it I noticed.
wow the acting was so bad
maria larancuent I’d like to think it’s because they’re regular kids with 0 acting experience which makes it feel more real to me. That’s why I prefer Degrassi JH and DH to The Next Generation because the kids and show seems more realistic. The kids in TNG look like high school seniors rather than middle schoolers wearing over the top makeup. 😊
thats actually a really good perspective
Joeys dad is White !!!!!
So?
Joey have really bad style
Mini mum Joeys style isn't too bad but he likes wearing those hats and Hawaiian shirts a lot, Joey didn't have to get upset at his mom for cleaning his room and it's good Rick invited Joey over to buy the used Jean jacket from him and it gave Joey an eye opener that not everyone has it as good as he does.
I wish my children had a friend who was abused. They might appreciate what they have a bit more.
I thought Lauren Collins was hot in this episode.
Billy Cross ?
When the dad started beating his son you don't know how hard I started laughing😂😂💀
"You know what this is-child abuse!" I'm crying😂
why u laugh?
Ary why did you start laughing when Ricks Dad started beating him? It was scary to watch the first time I saw the episode, poor Rick I feel bad for him his Dad's an asshole and I never laughed when Rick was getting beaten and his Dad gets mad way too much.
Eurodance90schick I think I laughed bc of the acting. The thing was quite sad but the acting had me olling
