If what people say is true, and David is a narcissist, this would be typical narc behavior. They want you to know they're still watching you or still in your life, despite you trying to get away from them. They try to get under your skin by the smallest of things. The whole Jeff situation really messed with David's life, and if he is a narc then he will try to get revenge in any way he can.
