  • Last week, everyone and their Mum was buzzing to see another weekend of LS coaching Cloud9 and pulling out the weirdest drafts the LCS has seen in years.
    But then Cloud9 released him minutes before their game and the reaction from the community has been a collective: um, uhhh ... what the actual f@*k?
    The mystery has only gotten deeper this week and we’ve already reached the point where lawyers are involved. Yeah. Let’s go through it all…

    A bit of a personal anecdote, but what upsets me about this entire situation is the fact that due to this whole situation, LS will almost certainly never coach an NA team again… he had stated for a long time that in order for him to come back to NA and coach a team, a TON of specific things would need to be perfect, low and behold the current iteration of C9 forms and he’s actually willing to go all in on this team only to get thrown out

      @@iwalani2697 I agree. To me he just seemed so unlikable on stream or in his various podcasts. He sounded like such a know-it-all and imo it was irritating. He started coaching c9 and it seemed like his online persona mellowed out. I’m a TL fan but shit I even wanted to watch the C9 games just to see the draft. Imo that team is kinda bad because fudge is still learning mid and winsome isn’t that great plus I honestly don’t value blabber like most people do but the unorthodox drafts really worked to allow the team to beat teams that aren’t ready for it. That plus his drafts brought so much more variety to the point where several midlaners started practicing enchanters mid just to see what it’s about

      That's true, but you need to look at the other side of the coin as well.
      Your job as a professional player is not to perform well on a select few champions or your "pocket pick", its to perform well on a role. It is on the player if he does not know how to play a champion in the role he is paid to learn, as much as it is on the coach for not knowing the strengths of his pieces.

      @@lordpaulphilippfernandez9904 LS is smarter in terms of league than the whole C9 organization combined. I guarantee he talked to the whole team about these kinds of picks & practiced with them. The only thing I can see is C9 didn't want to take the chance at actually winning major events, but instead prioritize the player market/value of NA players in NA. Someone in another comment said it best, "Players have higher market buyout value if they play the same dogshit. An org in NA is not making money based on their result just brands."
      Notice how in korea, china & even in EU teams don't prioritize putting the biggest faces of their org plastered everywhere for brand deals. They play to actually win tournaments and make it to worlds. This is the reason NA is such a joke, it's about brand $ not victories. So of course bringing in someone who wants to win and has strategies that WILL make you a top contender & actual competitor at msi & worlds won't work.

      This pretty much is most likely the big factor of why this fell apart. LS has stated multiple times pubically that he's fully against pre-planned drafts and then playing those pre-planned drafts in scrims against other opponents. For me, its bad to do both because where either they could get leaked, or that scrim opponent will know how to prepare in there coming weeks against them.
      LS is in the mindset of reacting to what the opponent is drafting and also believes you don't tons of X games on a champion. Malphite isn't hard of a champion just to first time on stage and you don't need 50+ games to understand your role as a malphite, soraka, or etc. This is just weird

    I would *partially* understand if a coach was let go with a losing record, but how do you let go of a coach that helped put your current roster together and got them off to a 3-1 start? If that coach was going against my team's "rules" but was getting results, why bother changing it? At least C9 embarrassed themselves in that CLG loss. A nice big fuck you to management tbh. Not even going to blame the players for that. They lost their coach hours before a game, they cannot be expected to perform under those conditions.

      IMO I don't think Cloud 9 cares at all how the team performs internationally, nor do they really care if they win. At the end of the day they want to create and build up a brand around their players enough so that they can sell them at a profit. The whole Academy swap/benching/player selling with past members like Jensen, Contractz, Licorice, Vulcan, Smoothie all show that Cloud 9 has a hold on the talent market from selling player contracts. I think LS with his one track and unique coaching style produced a team that would perform specific to the instruction and playstyle in LS's mind, therefore creating players that could be doubted for "conventional" play and would therefore look less valuable to other organizations and teams. Damn shame that C9 upper management have turned out this way...

    LS refused to stop “exposing C9 strategies” on stage that they wanted to hold onto until they ‘needed’ to use them. C9 wanted his spicy picks, unique drafts, and clever counters, but not shown on stage. That’s their coaching strategy difference. Practicing unique picks on stage was not allowed, only in private internal scrims. They couldn’t just come out and say “we don’t like LS drafts” or keep him as head coach but refuse to let him handle drafts, because that’s a huge part of his coaching style. More nuances but that’s the gist of it.

    Imo this whole situation has vibe of someone in C9, someone important(Management/player etc.), not liking LS personally or coaching wise and throwing a fit to get him out. The Fudge interview kinda gives me that feel, Fudge states he knew about the move before hand but kept his mouth shut, this points to him either being apart of a group who wanted this or knowing the person who had enough sway to do it themselves. Real shitty either way though that C9 just pulled the cord, guess winning doesn't fix everything.

    To everyone who keeps saying C9 has never been a great org and terrible management either must be new to the esports scene or just trying to sound like they know a lot from very little. Before the days of the current LCS, all the esports Orgs were complete jokes in terms of professionalism. Decisions were made by people's girlfriends. People couldn't show up to events because they couldn't figure out how to buy plane tickets. Players were treated like complete shit from the owners and got screwed over all the time. It was a complete shit show. Jack was one of the first general managers who actually acted like an adult and created a structure. He was literally doing anything and everything to make sure the players only had to focus on the game. His wife was making meals for the team back then, while other teams were eating junk food 24/7. He bought tickets to Korea for his LCS team before they even qualified for worlds. He has shown by far much more kindness and generosity than malice and selfishness. At the end of the day this is a business. If guys like Jack don't know how to handle business and create income, then the esports scene wouldn't exist.
    In the glory days of the Korean Esports scene, those players got paid barely minimum wage, and were treated like dogs. Team owners like Jack and Steve were the ones who brought in the big money into the league scene. They are the ones who got this franchise system which created a housing for the big money to come in. I'm saying the fact that these coaches and players make as much as they do now should be credited to the work that people like Jack have put in. Sure he isnt perfect but C9 as an org is far from being a bad organization.

    What is smells to me is that’s it’s good old upper management thinking they know all and they know best. Buts it’s so disappointing and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to root for any of the C9 rosters ever again.

  • @argantyr5154
    @argantyr5154 2 роки тому +2

    To me, the only logical reason is LS and someone higher in the system have come in to one or more arguments and things where said that couldn't be taken back. Of course there are going to be Lawyers involved when a Contract is being "torn to pieces" and most likely there are some "shut up money" on both sides, which is why we don't get any information. This does also explain why Fudge says it does not come as a surprise if he or other players have witness one or more arguments.
    C9 have always been decisive when it comes to decisions, like when they send most of their starting roster to academy.
    And yes this will cost C9 a lot of money, both to LS but also in views etc.
    The Video from C9 was just a joke no more no less, it provides 0 information of any kind it was literally "bla bla bla" like watching a monologue with 3 extras that just were for the sake of being there.

    So I think there are a couple of thing being left out here, 1) LS overall seems not to be spiteful towards C9 (still replies to Jack's tweets, praises Max waldo and thinks he will be the next best coach of the west, and praised jack for really caring about the player) 2) The rumors that have been heard do seems to explain certain things that somewhat justified the decision (According to kobe, mark and azael on the dive). I think people who are saying "How did you not know this was going to happen when LS has actively shown who he is and what he believes in all on stream and vods?". My arguement to this is that just because someone presents themselves in the public doesnt mean they are that same person in private. Remember Jack spent millions of dollars on this project, if you think for a second that Jack did not try to remedy the situation multiple times then you really dont know anything about C9 as an org. People also forget that Jack was the same person to give full control to repeer when benching jensen and sneaky in 2018 when they were at the bottom of the split and weren't looking like they were going to make playoffs, which led them to getting to the worlds semifinals.

    • @deliberation6022
      @deliberation6022 2 роки тому

      Pretty good speculation but if there is no spite between anyone and no anger then what was the problem? If there were disagreements about stuff then LS would've probably known that he would be let go soon. But he was blindsided by it. I'm starting to think that maybe this was caused by outside influence ie, riot, lol esports, some sponsors, or maybe some country issues between US or Korea. (I say this because he went back to Korea the same day even though he has family in US which I would expect he would want to spent more time with before leaving) (Also because Fudge and other members said they had expected it but they seemed to think that they were powerless and couldn't do anything to stop it)
      Overall this is one of the most confusing situations, the coach who was kicked doesn't seem to care (just went back to his old life without taking anytime to think anything over), the team was winning, the team seems like they also don't care or actually support it, LS said nothing to anyone about the decision being unfair.

      @@deliberation6022 so if you listen to fudge’s interviews and what jack said in the video it seems like LS may not have been cut out for all the responsibilities for a head coach. You have to remember that being a head coach doesn’t just revolves around practices and drafts, but a bunch of other requirements. I think LS might have had huger issues with interpersonal skills and willingness to make compromises with the coaching staff and players. In the fudge interview today after beating dig he sights that one of the things they did way better this weeks compared to other weeks is actually prepare properly. I think LS probably had an unorthodox way of practicing and players/ coaching staff were having an issue with it.
