Mine doesn’t say what number, but you will want a “fine” grit for sure. I found I prefer working with a small bit of sturdy leather rather than with a strop. I need to make an updated video. I cannot find aluminum oxide powder in the Netherlands, but I do see cerium oxide powder. Would you think that’s suitable as well? (Apparently that’s mostly used for glass or stone polishing)
Possibly. I imagine it will far gentler, which means it would take more time but might be worth it. Then again, it might not be effective enough. Since aluminum oxide is a knife sharpening powder, I would see if there is a different knife sharpening powder abrasive in your country. If not, I’d give the cerium oxide a shot
I noticed in this video you mentioned using aluminium oxide powder instead of the wax and the powder you use is white. I use aluminium oxide 600 grit powder for my glass etching but it is gray not white, can I use this or do I have to get the white powder which I can only find in 100 gram bags ?

Unfortunately, I’m not familiar with that model number. Great question. I don’t know much about sulfate other than you need it in the garden. 🙃 Look up online if they use sulfate for sharpening knives. You want to get a fine grit so it doesn’t chew up the tips. The aluminum oxide label doesn’t say how fine the grit is, but I do know it’s a polishing grit, so it’s likely up in the thousands. And the leather strop doesn’t have a grit, but it does have a smooth side, and a rough side.

My new burner has some of these specialist tips and I was wondering if it would be an idea to do a pre uses polish on them ?
Absolutely. They will definitely burn easier if they are polished. Often nibs come pre-polished, but wouldn’t hurt to polish again.
Carbon build up is so annoying, definitely affects shading alot, great vid and tips 👍✌

Yes that’s a common method for getting the big stuff off. The leather gets the fine carbon build up off of there though
