This documentary left me speechless. I cannot fathom the level of risk and danger these people endured, and the difficulty of not only getting them to freedom but actually smuggling cameras into North Korea and filming the entire thing. Unbelievable. This should be shown in schools everywhere
@@RaymondRAYCEare you serious? Human oppression? Meanwhile, there’s losers commenting about that the DPRK is the only true Korea. 😂 The fact that he’s not even ethnically of the peninsula/of the diaspora makes it more ridiculous.
One of the best documentaries I have ever watched. I had already read quite a few books about the situation in North Korea, but "Beyond Utopia" really hammers the truth home. A masterpiece!
It really is one of the best I’ve ever seen! What a powerful story of the real life struggles for freedom. This will quickly humble anyone in good nations.
I just watched this the other day. Really good. I have followed North Korea for many yrs and familiar with stories even such as those shown in the film but it's the filming itself that blew me away. The film access while these acts are going on is incredible. Huge props to the producers, director and camera people
They got me at hello. Fantastic documentary 10/10. I found myself on the edge of the seat. Best documentary of 2023. It's definitely better than 20 days in Mariupol.
Nah I wouldnt say it's better. The difference probably here is you see something you normally never see and footage that's completely new. After over 2 years people saw just very much footage out of Ukraine, so it's probably a little less special however I would say both are just really good.
@@USEismydream I also thought that was a great one, but this one is better. The journey of that family over 3 borders and their experience being outside North Korea is excellent stuff. That is what makes this one better.
One of the truly great NK documentaries, utterly heart breaking. It's up there with 'Under the Sun'. Anyone heard any updates on the women who's son was sent to the gulag?
Having just watched this gripping and fascinating trailer, I'm really looking forward to watching the full documentary when it's released. Thank you for sharing this remarkable story with the world.
And this Pastor is a super-hero in today's world laying-down his very life for his fellow man, woman, or child. He follows Christ's words, "Greater love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." From the Bible in John 15:13. Evidently the Holy Spirit resides in him, otherwise how can he show such sacrificial love, as well as those supporting him?
A great doc-all actual footage, riveting and heartbreaking. I felt like a spoiled AmericanBastard watching the hell that family, aged 8 to 80, and the defector’s mother went through, just for a shot at what I got by some accident of birth. And still they cried at having to leave home. These damn dictators and all oppressors-we get one trip through this life, and they spend all of theirs making millions of others’ horrible. Thanks be to that pastor-now there’s a Christian. Puts those “Christian Nationalists” to shame. They need a vacation in North Korea.
"Beyond Utopia" sounds like a description of where this movie is playing because I literally can't find it anywhere in Northeastern Illinois where I live even though it was supposed to have come out at the theaters over a week and a half ago.
mentioned it is on Amazon prime. I watched it on the Crostmas eve in a Qantas plane from Brisbane to Queenstown. Thank Qantas for giving me the opportunity to find this documentary.

이 영화는 이 시대 지구상에서 살아가는 의식있는 사람들은 모두 봐서, 이 문명시대에 가축처럼 갇혀 사육되고, 고통당하는 북한민들의 해방을 위해 노력해야 합니다.(The film sees all the conscious people living on Earth in this era, and should strive to free North Koreans who are trapped, bred, and suffered like livestock in this civilized era.)
In North Korea Orwell's 1984 has become true. In an ideal world other countries would have intervened and removed the north Korean people from the hands of this monstrous madman. But unfortunately for the North Koreans their country doesn't have oil for the Americans or Europeans to get interested!
Trump watched this and yearned for america to be like that. This way, no one could laugh at him and make him cry. Trump reads Kim’s love letter every night before going to sleep.
Sound of freedom is not a documentary. Half of that movie is fiction. What was real is that Donald Trump took children away from their families and even Melania Trump showed up with a immigrant detention center with jacket that said 'I don't care'. Very classy of her. That is what conservatism looks like.
At any point in the documentary does it ever mention how Korea got the way it is? Or mention the US genociding 20% of its population? If not, it's just another piece of entirely dismissable propaganda that everyone should take about as seriously as they take Yeonmi Park claiming that they have to push the trains.
