Leeds Castle is a castle in Kent, England, 5 miles (8 km) southeast of Maidstone. It is built on islands in a lake formed by the River Len to the east of the village of Leeds.
A castle has existed on the site since 1119, the first being a simple stone stronghold constructed by Robert de Crevecoeur which served as a military post in the time of Norman intrusions into England. In the 13th century it came into the hands of King Edward I, for whom it became a favourite residence; in the 16th century, Henry VIII used it as a dwelling for his first wife, Catherine of Aragon.
The present castle dates mostly from the 19th century. It has been open to the public since 1976.

we visited Leeds Castle the first Bank Holiday in May of this year, and it's much different from what's shown in this video. The main focus is now on Lady Baillie, inspired by the Downton Abbey trend I guess. Much of what you see in the video is no longer included in the tour unfortunately.
There's a lot of activities for children as well, which meant it being a bank holiday, most of the visitors were families with kids when we were there. If that's not your cup of tea, I'd recommend visiting during weekdays. Also, the entry fee of 30 GBP is steep, although you have unlimited free access for a year. But for us, visiting from abroad, this wasn't of use, and there are no other options like a day ticket for example. Yes, the castle and gardens are beautiful, but all in all, I was a little disappointed.

I really enjoyed the walk-through. It's not opulent like other castles, is it? Other than the size of their home and beautiful lands, it doesn't seem like they lived at that level of over-the-top luxury.
