I love how we constantly see Ody in the background during the song, lurking around pretty much like a predator and waiting for the perfect moment until they start talking about killing his son and raping his wife and he's like "Okay, these bastards die now!" Masterfully done!
After seeing the premiere, this has to be one of the most intense interpretations you don't shy away from it from the brutal stabbing of the prince to the assault on Penelope
That last bit where Antinous is shocked to see Odysseus right as he’s dying felt extremely satisfying, especially after that truly horrifying SA scene.
Finally. The FIRST animator who CLEARLY shows how HORRIFYING and DISGUSTING is Antinous by showing exactly his intentions towards Telemachus and Penelope without any metaphor hiding it. I can only imagine how difficult that must have been but your effort and beautiful art made this video by far the BEST Hold Them Down animation. I'm in AWE (despite the disgust)🙏🏼♥️
This is the first time I’ve felt genuinely DISGUSTED with the “hold her down” scene because you somewhat ACTUALLY SHOW IT, everyone else tries to dance around it with creative imagery, you said “NAH, y’all get to see what they’re planning!” And that makes the lyrics hit so much harder than a dude getting freaky with a pomegranate in my opinion, nicely done
I just adore that Antinous saw who shot him. In most animatics I saw he just dies but him seeing Ody just makes me happy. I like to think that when he saw Ody he realised he is just a little guy who can talk big in the group of little guys but the moment when big guy appeared he is nothing.
This version of Hold Them Down is so intense and brutal, and really just absolutely captures the violent and vile nature of this song. I felt so tense and angry watching it, like I was Odysseus in the room hearing them planning and plotting. Seeing the end and that you're doing an Odysseus animatic next, I know seeing him absolutely massacare these suitors is gonna hit so hard. This is a really great animatic(they always are)! You're so talented 🫶🏾
I just realized how much this puts all the other antagonists into perspective, because they all had reasons for what they did. The cyclops was protecting his cave from theft, Poseidon was avenging his son, Circe had bad experiences with men, the sirens and Scilla need to eat. These guys however are just horrible people who don’t care who they have to hurt to get what they want.
The worst monsters are not those of the immortal world, it’s the ones who need no other reason to be cruel than they enjoy it. Humanity was created by Prometheus, does that not make them a race of monsters in their own kind?
2:59 I love the fact that Odysseus shot through 12 axes cleanly and shut Antinous down, showing that it's not impossible but all of those suitors weren't just worthy enough to be the new king, the details
i dont know if this was intentional but i recently rewatched britt's love in paradise animatic and i noticed a parallel with pen and ody and antinous and calypso. in both parts of them talking about their vile/gross intentions with pen and ody, both of them use their power to stop the other from getting away from them. calypso uses her nymph magic to physically pull odysseus back to her bed and pin him down and antinous grabs penelope when she tries to flee off the balcony and then uses the other suitors to pin her down on the bed. and with those two things in mind it makes odysseus' rage so much more satisfying since he himself went through SA so even the IDEA of his wife suffering the same torture would enrage him.
Not only did you depict the SA scene really well but you depicted them attacking Telemachus very well too. Definitely the most detailed in and outside of the art for this song I've seen animated so far

can't help but think, can you imagine being a servant in that castle during this song? Like you hear what the suiters are planning and you look over to see the 20year missing king stringing his bow ready to shoot. At least to me, I feel like the best reaction is to sneak out of the room, lock the door behind and wait for the screaming to stop. I'm talking full barricade until all signs point to them being gone. You don't really hear what those who worked there felt about all of the 20 years the suiters were partying until this point. I think it could e a fun narrative t think about.

Fun fact: in many versions of the Odyssey, our hero does exactly that. Strings the bow, shoots through the axes, and right into Antinous's throat, like he deserves.
To be honest, I feel quite nauseous after watching this, but like in a positive way for you, because the animation was just that good, though it was sometimes hard to look at. (Not only the SA part, but also the Telemachus part). Awesome work indeed! Plus the end scene showing Ody shooting the aarow through the axes was just *chefs kiss*

That final scene, where Antinous and Odysseus look at each other, that was SO GOOD. Your Odysseus design is probably my favorite, so I eagerly await your Odysseus animatic.
Weird compliment, but I think this animatic has the most disturbing version of that verse I've seen so far. Maybe cause it had the guts(?) to actually show her being pinned? Most other versions seem to either stick with euphemisms like the lyrics, or at worst just show just a couple of frames. This one doesn't hide a thing.

Oh. My. Gosh. I was expecting this to be incredible, but Britt... you went BEYOND!!! I couldn't look away, no matter how hard i tried! Them discribing how to kill Tele was masterly shown, and when the SA scene came, i was mortified at how evil Antinous is! I loved the fact that Ody was in the background the whole time, trying so hard not to do anything until the time was right! And i LOVE your Tele design! Its the right amount of youth and growing up and someone who has dealt with a lot! And that smile Ody had right before he killed Antinous sent shivers down my spine! And poor Penelope, having her try to jump off the balcony to escape the suiters, but them catching her, really set the scene well! ❤❤❤
I love how regal your Telemachus looks like and when Antinous tries to kiss Penelope she bits his tongue was perfect like yes this is a Sparta queen who would fight till the bitter end
Is it wrong to say that my favorite part is when Ody hits Antinous right through the throat after shooting the arrow through the twelve axe heads perfectly?
That... man, deserved something worse than an arrow, he deserved what he wanted to do with Telemachus. Those scenes are VERY well done, they genuinely turned my stomach.
I saw someone mention elsewhere that the shot to the neck may not have killed him but paralyzed him, so he lies there fully conscious and hear's all that Odysseus does to the rest while he slowly bleeds out. If that doesn't make you feel better, you know Hades and Persephone are going to give him a really fitting punishment in Tartarus, so his soul will suffer far longer than his body.
Ooooooh, Odysseus' look at Antonious at the end. "You were saying?" Love that Antonious sees who shot him too. He sees the Old king's cold fury, and now he's paid the ultimate price. Don't think he's gonna get much mercy in the underworld either. Throw him in the depths of Tartarus, Persephone!

I realize it's likely a coincidence but I love how the animatics, including this one show people trying to string Odysseus' bow backwards. I realize its likely just an aesthetic one rather than once chosen for accuracy but its really clever, and a small detail that shows that the suitors don't understand even the simplest part of the challenge, let alone the entire challenge.
@brentage5000 It's complicated to explain so you can look up how to string a recurve bore to get an idea. But basically when the bow is curved a towards you without a string then you're facing it the wrong way. You turn the curve away from you and then you pull the string towards you as you string it The curve makes the pull stronger if you string it properly but if you do it improperly then the bow will be lucky to flop an arrow out
I was eating while watching this. Bad idea to say the least, this animatic has the most graphic and explicit interpretation of the sa scene, and i honestly love how you portrayed it. Amazing
The Ithaca Saga definitely feels like a "Once you do one animatic, you've gotta do the whole damn thing just to balance out the darkness of Hold Them Down and Odysseus". That being said, I do appreciate the actual depiction of the SA and the moment that Telemechus was killed. I don't mind the symbolism in other animatics, but the broad symbolism... sometimes i feel like it takes away from the true horror and beastly nature of Antonious. It "softens" how deplorable his plans truly were, and thus desensitizes the audience to something that we should be justly disgusted and horrified by.
Thank you so much for the amount of detail. It made the darker section feel more real compared to just the song and other animatics. It made me feel uncomfortable and just how disgusting antinous was. So thank you for putting in the effort and pushing through your own discomfort to show us this masterpiece
I'm so happy when I watch an animatic of this song and Odysseus shoots THROUGH all the axes, but this? This one feels like "yeah I guess I have time" vibe to it like he just casually completes a task that took these idiots HOURS just to fail.
I saw this in my recommended and was immediately terrified. I feel very weird commenting on this but the way you had Penelope attempt to jump from her balcony instead of being subjected to the suitor’s cruelty is… I mean. And then her continuing to fight back and bite Antinous. Like it’s awful and horrible but as touches for the animatic it’s appreciated. And then having Ody shoot the bastard through the axes? That was poetry. Shoot him again. Also, just very impressed with how your animatics have gradually improved throughout Epic. They were always very beautiful, and now they’re even more so. Just incredible talent.

This was beautifully done. Everything was handled splendidly. Loved how you captured "while we were busy plotting, he hid our weapons" just before Odysseus rage-marched to reclaim his kingship. And while I have seen a few axe shots end at Antinous, for me this is the first I've seen him be a moving target that Ody had to time just perfect for. As gruesome and morbid as it is, I love that detail. Just pile atop all other indicator's that Odysseus is the master of the bow. Looking forward to the next one whenever it is ready. :-)

YOU DID IT! God, I have been WAITING for someone to animate in Antionous’ moments before he dies, he turns to see who shot him! God just amazing! And Antinous couldn’t even see how Penelope wouldn’t let him get away with kissing her and biting back. Just the SA was brutally well done, but first time that we see her actually running. And not only almost jumping, but screaming for help. Like for Telemachus’ part, Antinous had all the power, but seeing Penelope’s part, it was different. Almost like someone had a hand in shaking Antinous determination. Apollo, god of prophecy, perhaps. 😏

If I remember the original story correctly the servants were the ones to hide the weapons and lock them in the room with Odysseus
In some depictions some of the servants help Odysseus. Others are loyal to the suitors and end up being executed.

Fun fact: in many versions of the Odyssey, our hero does exactly that. Strings the bow, shoots through the axes, and right into Antinous's throat, like he deserves.
To be honest, I feel quite nauseous after watching this, but like in a positive way for you, because the animation was just that good, though it was sometimes hard to look at. (Not only the SA part, but also the Telemachus part). Awesome work indeed! Plus the end scene showing Ody shooting the aarow through the axes was just *chefs kiss*

As a SA survivor you portrayed this so well. It was hard to watch but it was amazingly drown. Thank you for being so respectful about it. I know a lot of creators shy from it youre the only one who did it this way. Its supposed to make you uncomfortable and it did its job. You didnt shy away from making the suitors disgusting.

Yeah I've been imagining that Odysseus waited until he was in front of the axes to shoot through them cleanly and complete the challenge. This is the first time someone animated that. Great job!
Hi Stellaluna's version actually beat him to it with the axes by a couple weeks, and a couple others, but this is the first one that's actually accurate on where the hole is on the axe head.
That final scene, where Antinous and Odysseus look at each other, that was SO GOOD. Your Odysseus design is probably my favorite, so I eagerly await your Odysseus animatic.

Weird compliment, but I think this animatic has the most disturbing version of that verse I've seen so far.
Maybe cause it had the guts(?) to actually show her being pinned? Most other versions seem to either stick with euphemisms like the lyrics, or at worst just show just a couple of frames. This one doesn't hide a thing.
So! A lot of people have mentioned the axes and how viscerally striking the SA scene is. Which are incredible and absolutely do deserve to be talked about.
But omg the touch of Antinous sitting on Ody's throne.... The AUDACITY!!!! How *dare* he. And Odysseus just hanging out watching him. Because he *knows* who needs to go down first. 😚🤌
I'm still imagining Poseidon panic yeeting Telemachus right back to his own bedroom, BTW...

The SA scene made me physically recoil, truly fantastic work. But also that shot of Telemachus’ arm being dragged off is absolutely horrifying. This really doesn’t shy away from the very dark parts of the song
Oh. My. Gosh. I was expecting this to be incredible, but Britt... you went BEYOND!!! I couldn't look away, no matter how hard i tried! Them discribing how to kill Tele was masterly shown, and when the SA scene came, i was mortified at how evil Antinous is! I loved the fact that Ody was in the background the whole time, trying so hard not to do anything until the time was right! And i LOVE your Tele design! Its the right amount of youth and growing up and someone who has dealt with a lot! And that smile Ody had right before he killed Antinous sent shivers down my spine! And poor Penelope, having her try to jump off the balcony to escape the suiters, but them catching her, really set the scene well! ❤❤❤
The IMAGERY for what Antinous plans to do is just horrific and magnificently done!!!!

I love how regal your Telemachus looks like and when Antinous tries to kiss Penelope she bits his tongue was perfect like yes this is a Sparta queen who would fight till the bitter end

That... man, deserved something worse than an arrow, he deserved what he wanted to do with Telemachus. Those scenes are VERY well done, they genuinely turned my stomach.
I saw someone mention elsewhere that the shot to the neck may not have killed him but paralyzed him, so he lies there fully conscious and hear's all that Odysseus does to the rest while he slowly bleeds out. If that doesn't make you feel better, you know Hades and Persephone are going to give him a really fitting punishment in Tartarus, so his soul will suffer far longer than his body.

The SA scene was SO GOOD. I MEAN BAD. It was depicted in a wonderfully disgusting way that I actually felt sick to my stomach while watching.

I realize it's likely a coincidence but I love how the animatics, including this one show people trying to string Odysseus' bow backwards. I realize its likely just an aesthetic one rather than once chosen for accuracy but its really clever, and a small detail that shows that the suitors don't understand even the simplest part of the challenge, let alone the entire challenge.
Can you explain what you mean backwards? I don't really know much about bows apart from "pulled back string makes arrow fly lethally" 😄
@brentage5000 It's complicated to explain so you can look up how to string a recurve bore to get an idea. But basically when the bow is curved a towards you without a string then you're facing it the wrong way. You turn the curve away from you and then you pull the string towards you as you string it
The curve makes the pull stronger if you string it properly but if you do it improperly then the bow will be lucky to flop an arrow out

I was eating while watching this. Bad idea to say the least, this animatic has the most graphic and explicit interpretation of the sa scene, and i honestly love how you portrayed it. Amazing
The Ithaca Saga definitely feels like a "Once you do one animatic, you've gotta do the whole damn thing just to balance out the darkness of Hold Them Down and Odysseus". That being said, I do appreciate the actual depiction of the SA and the moment that Telemechus was killed.
I don't mind the symbolism in other animatics, but the broad symbolism... sometimes i feel like it takes away from the true horror and beastly nature of Antonious. It "softens" how deplorable his plans truly were, and thus desensitizes the audience to something that we should be justly disgusted and horrified by.
The way i shivered, let out a "eak" sound and curled up during the SA part... 😬 So uncomfortable but so well done! Bravo!
Thank you so much for the amount of detail. It made the darker section feel more real compared to just the song and other animatics. It made me feel uncomfortable and just how disgusting antinous was. So thank you for putting in the effort and pushing through your own discomfort to show us this masterpiece
I'm so happy when I watch an animatic of this song and Odysseus shoots THROUGH all the axes, but this? This one feels like "yeah I guess I have time" vibe to it like he just casually completes a task that took these idiots HOURS just to fail.
I saw this in my recommended and was immediately terrified.
I feel very weird commenting on this but the way you had Penelope attempt to jump from her balcony instead of being subjected to the suitor’s cruelty is… I mean. And then her continuing to fight back and bite Antinous. Like it’s awful and horrible but as touches for the animatic it’s appreciated.
And then having Ody shoot the bastard through the axes? That was poetry. Shoot him again.
Also, just very impressed with how your animatics have gradually improved throughout Epic. They were always very beautiful, and now they’re even more so. Just incredible talent.

This was the most horrifying Hold Them Down animatic I have seen yet and I love it for that. I love how it shows how truly horrid what Antinous and the suitors are planning. I really like how brutally realistic and gruesome Telemachus’ murder looked and I literally curled into a ball watching the SA segment. Knees pulled up to my chest and all. I was scared and disgusted by what my eyes were viewing/pos
I know a lot of people compliment how brutally sickening but well done the Penelope scene was but CAN WE MENTION THE TELEMACHUS PART! the poor baby looked so scared. I swear i think this is the most scummy antinous I've seen yet. Which is really good but it hurts. Poor Tele and PenPen.

This is everything I’ve wanted out of a “hold them down” animatic and more. Odysseus hiding the weapons, The arrow shot, the brutality, everything is perfect. Extremely well done. Can’t wait for the next one❤.
I love the detail of Odysseus subtly plotting in the background during some of the shots.
It’s satisfying to see Antinous face at the ending knowing that Odysseus is alive. You get what you deserve when planning something when it comes Odysseus family.
This was beautifully done. Everything was handled splendidly. Loved how you captured "while we were busy plotting, he hid our weapons" just before Odysseus rage-marched to reclaim his kingship. And while I have seen a few axe shots end at Antinous, for me this is the first I've seen him be a moving target that Ody had to time just perfect for. As gruesome and morbid as it is, I love that detail. Just pile atop all other indicator's that Odysseus is the master of the bow. Looking forward to the next one whenever it is ready. :-)

And Antinous couldn’t even see how Penelope wouldn’t let him get away with kissing her and biting back. Just the SA was brutally well done, but first time that we see her actually running. And not only almost jumping, but screaming for help. Like for Telemachus’ part, Antinous had all the power, but seeing Penelope’s part, it was different. Almost like someone had a hand in shaking Antinous determination. Apollo, god of prophecy, perhaps. 😏

Forever obsessed with your art style. Everything is so well-illustrated and i love how everyone is so expressive and how you showed that odysseus was there disguised.
