- Easton and I fish the fourth stop with the Northwestern bass club and it happened again!!
Easton broke another rod setting he hook while frogging. I think this one is more due to a damaged rod. As you can see in the video he is pretty confused as to what is happening.
We did have a better finish this,( we finished fifth) time which makes everything just a little better.

It could be hidden damage or it could be extra slack in the line. It was hard to tell on that last video, but on this one it looks like maybe there was enough that the rod didn't even start to load until the rod tip was close to the 90° point so the rod taking a shock force at that point could blow it up. Not really sure though, slowmo might show more. Either way it totally sucks!
First one we think was prior damage. I stepped on it when I fell after my trolling motor cable broke. Not sure on the second one. It was an old rod so it could have been damaged as well
I watched it a handful of times and the only thing I can see is that the rod is sideways on the hook set but he didnt set it hard enough for it to break in my opinion. He had more of a horizontal hooksett instead of a vertical hooksett but again, shouldn't have broke. Once job on the 5th place finish!!!!

We figured the white rod was damaged for sure. I stepped on it. I'm sure the other one was also.
In my experience, all it takes is a small crack in the rod to cause a weak point and break on a hard hookset. Probably what happened was someone stepped on it and make a hairline crack in the rod and it didn't break until after a few hard hooksets
I'm thinking that bud what happened for sure. Going back to when my cable broke on my trolling motors and I fell. I stepped on the green ghost. The one he broke last video. This one I'm sure was also damaged.

It's really his favorite way to fish. Just a couple bad hooksets!!
IMO it looks like a problem with the rod, the rod breaks before it even loads up. It also broke at the real seat which should be the strongest part of the rod
That's an older rod so it could very well have been damaged.
