Thanks for your reply! :) About 2 months ago I went into the local shop here (Herb Bauer) and had a nice talk with a skier that worked there. He explained to me how on my skis (because I brought them in for some repair [top sheet]) that i still had wax in the middle of my skis.. not near the edges.. made soo much sense to me right when he said that! That little hump of extra wax in the middle was slowing me down! .. I eventually bought a decent scrapper and ever since I scrap after each wax.
This is a helpful rudimentary overview of glide waxing. The only thing I would disagree with is the back and forth motion of the plastic brush. The motion of every application should be directionally tip to tail, with the exception of the felt buffer. Nice helpful overview for the beginning skier.
how come you wax the entire ski? Dont you need to use kickwax or grip wax in the middle? Is Nordic Skis different from Cross Country? Your help is appreciated!
There are two types of nordic or XC skis - skate and classic. Classic ski technique requires kick wax in the wax pocket. Skate skiing uses glide wax on the entire ski. The skis themselves are also different: different camber and flex.
Like your video! Questions: Does wax last longer if you don't scrap it? I was in a debate with a snowboard friend and he scraped all the wax off when he was done telling me the surface is more smooth. I agreed to that, however, when you ride... wouldn't you say the friction causes the wax to smooth out and last longer because you haven't scraped it?
you'll always have to scrape it, because if you do not scrape it there will still be glider covering the structure, and to get an satisfying glide structure is the MOST important, wax is very important but the structure is the most importante!!
I noticed you didn't wax the front tip of your ski. Also, what stiffness of nylon brush do you use. The yellow groove scraper looks nice. Is it a toko?

CbzDidIt wax lasts longer but slows you down due to not having structure. That's why you scrape and then brush out the structure
I’m new to waxing. I notice you have some smoke coming off the iron. Every video I’ve watched warned that this means the iron is too hot?

were can u get that scraper sharpener
What about the kick wax?
These were skate skis, so they don't require the kick wax
great lesson. thx.
Very helpful, thx!
Don't you wax and iron the central groove?
So was the last brush you used was stainless steel?
Chrys Bell nylon
In my opinion you too long iron heats base. It is not dangerous?
good tutorial, thank you
I can do the same with wax stick and cork pad. And I never , ever wax X-country skis under the foot - recipe for horrible kick back.
???
great lesson! Camerawork sucks!
Did you forget to remove your racing googles? ;))
Jeez that is way too much wax
Toxic wax
