One thing I would recommend, if you are going to start doing more a cappella reactions, is to get a good set of headphones. It's easy to miss a lot of the deeper notes without them; most speakers don't really carry them over well. I couldn't quite tell if you heard Geoff's final note, a subharmonic E1 that is almost a rumble. VoicePlay is terrific; I hope you'll keep watching them. Also, Geoff has his own solo channel, and while he doesn't do a cappella there (he uses minimal instrumentation for his covers), but he multitracks his voice, and with a 5 octave range, that gives him a lot to work with! I don't think there's a bad track on either his, or VoicePlay's, channel (of course, ymmv, but they haven't disappointed me yet).

There is what i call the trifecta of acapella: Pentatonix (the contemporary /pop side), Home Free (the country flavor), and Voice Play (the theater kids of acapella, lots of costumes etc ) You can not lose with any Voice Play song or any of the big 3. Also... they all first broke onto the scene via the NBC show The Sing Off. The bass Geoff Castelucci has crazy skills and covers his own. His range is crazy e0 to f5 I believe.

I also highly recommend Voctave. Voctave is so overlooked and they are so wonderful. Try listening to their cover of "O, Come All Ye Faithful" and tell me that isn't a heavenly sound. Listen to their "Disney Princess Medley" and tell me it isn't genius (in terms of arrangement) and that the voices are not among the best you've ever heard (including their coloratura soprano who will blow you away). Peter Hollens is also overlooked. Try is solo cover of "Shenandoah". Talk about stacking and harmonies.

I don't think Geoff ever used anything below his subharmonics (about D1) in any song. He probably could go even lower than e0 (about c0 on a fry note) but at that point it would be very difficult to include in a song. Anyway, he's a stonking good singer and the top and the bottom of his range are so far apart they don't even share the same postal code.

According to other videos, he can hit B1. There is rumour that he has hit A1, but Geoff denied that. Then again, he says he's a baritone so you can't really believe everything he says, especially when he can hit sub harmonic bass notes with ease like that.
I can hit a D1 comfortably and I thought that was quite good until I heard Geoff for the first time.

I don't know the film myself but I believe that Layne (vocal percussion) is representing the dog in the film. Earl with high voice, does sing high tenor a lot in their videos but if you'd like to hear his "normal" voice, try one he did with just Geoff (bass with a 5 octave range) which is Death of a Bachelor. Two beautiful voices, acapella. Another fun one from the same film as this is Kidnap the Sandy Claws, a lot of fun.

And this is from someone brought up with a symphony orchestra is her "standard" of good music. Heavy metal? Not my thing, but great if you enjoy it. The best a capella musicians around today are Voice Play, Pentatonix, Home Free, Voctave, and Peter Hollens. Check out most anything by any of these folks and you'll soon be "into" a capella music.

What I love about VoicePlay is their creativity and flexibility. Geoff is the bass, but he has a five octave range and all of it is luscious. He also steps in on the beatboxing from time to time... while Layne, the beatbox, has a sweet, sweet baritone. And on and on.... Geoff and Layne divide up most of the arrangements, and who ever does the arrangement usually does the video too. And they do most of their own editing.... so whatever you see from them, it's truly the group pulling together the ideas and executing on the performance. Every Halloween both VoicePlay and Geoff release a holiday song, so there's lots to go through and it's all good.

Check out at least one of theirs before you start down all three rabbit holes. HF's cover of "Man of Constant Sorrow" is a good starting point. Their cover of "When a Man Loves a Woman" (original by Percy Sledge, 1966) is a show-stopper, and there are many other good places to begin. (The only place NOT to begin is HF's cover of "Mayday" by Cam. It's great...but best if you wait.) Enjoy!

You completely missed Geoff's (Oogie Boogie) huge range. He has a five octave range and you can not really appreciate it without headphones. And if you want to do more a capella I recommend: Voice Play (Hoist the Colors, the Halo Theme); Home Free (Man of Constant Sorrow, End of the Road), Pentatonix (which you mentioned) (Bohemian Rhapsody, Sing (original)), Voctave (totally different from the other groups--recommend highly the Disney Princess Medley, The Great Movie Medley (honoring John Williams), and Peter Hollens (The Disney Villain Medley with Whitney Avalon; and Misty Mountain from "The Hobbit" with Tim Foust--bass from Home Free). I think you'll be completely amazed by all these folks.

There are a lot of great videos to choose from though I _don't_ recommend their cover of 'Mayday' by CAM until you know them. The group does something surprising in that video that people new to them will miss. As for suggestions, just about anything will do, look over your options as you like. Personally I'd recommend on of their their covers of 'Die A Happy Man', 'Some Girls Do', 'Thank God I'ma Country Boy' or one of their original songs, 'Champaign Taste On A Beer Budget' and 'Why Not.' After Seeing these I have expanded my vocal range to over 4 octaves and its amazing, as a Basso Cantante I can get up to a G5 in my headvoice but I could only go to about a C2 in my chest voice before I bottom out. Ive been practicing subharmonics, inhale, and growl for about a month now and I can get down to about an E1 in subharmonics D1 with growl, and B0 with inhale and chest fry, its so awesome. Subharmonics sound the cleanest but I am bad at them, I am actually fairly decent at growl but its very taxing on the voice, and once those notes bottom its just fry and I can make some cool low frequencies from there. I hope I can get my chest voice down to at least an A1 and get solid subharmonics like Geoff at some point because they sound so impressive when experienced singers do them.

New subscriber also if you wanna to a good singer check out a band called ice nine kills and there song assault and batteries the singer of the band is named spencer charnas
Little background about the band. Ice nine kills is a metal band that base there songs around horror movies so like assault and batteries is about the horror movie chucky I highly suggest it it’s awesome

I would suggest VoicePlay’s Queen in 5 Minutes medley. It would give you a chance to better hear everyone’s solo voice without the character acting. And you should recognize at least some of the songs in the medley.

People who follow acapella don't just think of Pentatonix when they hear the term acapella music. Not anymore. There are three main groups that people think of right off when they think of acapella music: Pentatonix ( true ), HomeFree, and ( of late ) VoicePlay. Those are, generally, the first three that come to people's minds, I've found. And, there are many other groups out there, I'm sure.
I'm certain you're tired of hearing people tell you that you really should use headphones when you're listening to acapella music, so I won't do that. I would ask, though, that you back up the video about 5 seconds, or so, after you pause. This way neither you nor your audience misses anything in the song, or performance, that you're currently watching. Some of the things in the song, or videos, need a little build-up to be appreciated properly. A few last things, first: watch the video again, when you have the time. Listen to the background the second time round. There is a LOT going on back there that, unless you're listening specifically for it, you might miss. Second, I like the little "blooper reel" you put at the end of the video. That made you much more "human", much more likeable than just the reaction video itself, which made you fairly likable in the first place. So, that was well done, and very cute. And, lastly, Thank you for doing this video. I know that content creation isn't easy, and I appreciate the effort that goes into it, as well as the courage it takes to put yourself out there for everyone to criticize. So! Keep doing what you're doing, because you're doing well. Who knows, a few more acapella reaction videos and I may even subscribe! See you on the next one.

You missed some of the Lowest vocals due to not using good quality headphones, this is an a must have to do proper and accurate reactions, headphones are a required tool to do justice to the artists, and that's especially true here. Your reaction did not do the artists real justice as I feel you were unprepared to fully appreciate the talent that was presented due to a lack of proper equipment. Just my humble opinion.

I don't furnish required equipment for someone who decided to do a job without the minimum equipment needed to do the job. A person should be equipped before taking on the responsibility of a job that contributes to an opinion of an artist ability if you really care about doing a good job.

Worst reaction yet. for a "Theatre Kid' you don't know much about music. No mention of Geoff's 5 octave range. No mention of the amazing arpeggio backing parts. No mention of the arrangement at all let alone the syncopation of the others or their ability to transition from character voices to singing voices effortlessly. No mention of Geoff's amazing bass run at 1:21. Seriously, less time practicing hair flicks and more time studying music theory.....
