I just finished it as a preator focused on charisma. Had to fight 1 sentry near the end of the game but other then that I conviced people to fuck over themselves. good game.
same. Except for that one time I willingly fallen into a trap thinking I could talk my way out... I died a horrible death
Everyone talking bout how this game isn't meant for combat etc etc in these reviews and I'm just sitting here with a 400+ body count in my playthrough
Yeah it basically says more about the people saying it than the game, in terms of them hating combat so they pretend it isn't supposed to be done. I think the hybrid paths have the best storylines (i.e, strong enough to do certain combats, enough other skills to get the best endings like becoming a god).
I have fun fighting in AoD. I have the skills to avoid the fight, but I still often choose to fight - but it wouldn't be fun without the non-combat options. That is why I don't think I will like Dungeon Rats as much as AoD.
@@filipl234 Honestly, with a lot of these combat systems you just need good stat placement, if you're going to kill everyone in your way, make sure you got one weapon you specialize in using, make sure per, strength, con and dex are no lower than 8 and you'll be fine. I went 8, 8, 8, 8, 4, 4 and was fine at fighting. Basically just have a general idea of how to place stats and fights will go in your favor. Also don't be stupid and get into fights you clearly don't need to get into. If all you have is a rusty axe and shit armor and your enemy is a fucking centurion with a big ass spear don't fight him yet, also the magic of saving. Get into a fight you can't finish? Go to an earlier save and come back later.
@@Biojack222 You can get by with even better stats than that. In fact, if you play a ranged character then you can drop strength all the way to 4. Crossbows are especially good for non-combat centric characters who still want to kick some ass from time to time since they have a low skill ceiling and high damage right off the bat. Mixed with a potent poison and you're good to go. 4, 6, 6 , 8, 9, 7 are the stats for my loremaster/praetor hybrid.
I love this game, I worked for one faction and gained a huge loyalty score for them, only to get all the names of said faction and turn it over to another lets say king. King had all the men beheaded and i was now the new Praetor. Worked for that guy for a while but his agenda and mine conflicted so i waited for an opportunity to betray him yet maintain my safety through numbers. Time to work for a new king by discussing his enemies military agenda towards his kingdom. I'm not trustworthy enough to be his new praetor, but perhaps a man of my unscrupulous nature has some use after all. Thus I become an agent, a spy. I start getting the hint that I am being set up, and this sense of security within the new kingdom is a ruse to gain my trust. Perhaps the thieves or assassins may take a liking to my skill? Maybe... I'm not in danger at all, and I'm paranoid? That's where I am at now, and I have yet to actually kill someone or even enter combat outside of the arena. And combat is not as difficult as people make it out to be, its just not something you are good at off the get, it takes time, appropriate equipment, strategy. I like to throw nets and bolo's to entangle or strangle the enemy, and follow that up with a precise strike to the enmies arteries causing severe damage. You dont want to really be fighting anything with weapon skills under 6, Too risky. Even at 6 pick the battles wisely, and defense should always be priority number 1 in combat over your offense. Not to mention, POWER ARMOR.
Great review as always. I picked this up after a few days of playing the lackluster Sword Coast Legends. AoD has been very fun and I love turn based strategy games.
Excellent! Was looking forward to this game and glad that the end verdict is positive.
Well done. Did not know ANYTHING about this game and at 1:50 I had already made my mind. I WANT THIS GAME! :-)
Thank you for an in depth review...helped me a lot! subbed
Thanks!
Welp I'm sold! Thanks for the review.
great review. definitely going to play this one
This game is HARD but for some reason it's very compelling.
It reminds me of Dark Souls. You will get killed and stuck a lot but you always want to go back and see what you could have done better, or what you can do now that you have some more experience.
Charron Top 5 I loved the story personally! Despite the fantastic elements it's pretty close to how it must have felt in the waining years of the Roman Empire especially.
Charron Top 5 Fair warning: this game is completely unfair. If you don't take proper precautions and try every avenue except combat you will lose BADLY. The game does not reward entering into battle unless you're completely ready for it. Also the game is extremely opened ended: like the opposite of linear. Neverwinter tells you what to do and where to go a lot of the time but this game seldom does and when there are quests it seldom tells you how to do them properly without some intuition...
But that's what I liked about it. It's one of the few RPGs where your character felt less like the savior of the land and more like an incidental character just trying to get by.
Except people have iron-manned the entire game doing every optional fight. What do the kids say these days ? "git gud" was it ?
"This isn't turn-based combat like in XCOM" - then describes turn-based combat that's exactly like XCOM.
Great review!
nice review ! subbed
Great review. You gain a subscriber :)
That feel when you find a good channel and it's dead. :'(
I just bought it today on Steam its good
Damn I really wanna try this game but the no voice acting kills it for me. I dont mind at times but there's a lot of times were im just trying to play not read shit. When I played pillars of eternity I managed to read most of it but there were a few times just hurried up and clicked shit so I can get back to playing since there isn't anything to listen to. Pillars of eternity 2 fix that but then not having cut scense still didnt make it all that much better but at least I didnt have to read it.
Compared to tyranny playing this is like chewing on gravel, do not recommend if you like having teeth.
1:06 ''in fucked''
Great review. The combat in this game looks ridiculously terrible. But sounds like that's not the focus.
lol forgot i was subscribed to u but good review none the less
+0GNAS0 ha! Thanks
I see the combat is direct descendant of Dead State's one... as the rest of the game.
Thanks for the detailed review. You helped me avoid a game I wouldn't have enjoyed :)
Basically this is Kenshi with better graphic
Well in Kenshi you cant talk your way out of most situations. Fight, run or die:D
Definitely not. More like Arcanum or Fallout 1 and 2, except the combat is even more brutal in AOD. The game literally tells you that combat approaches are the most difficult. If you play a talker, you're likely have an easier time, but when faced with combat situations, you'll be at a huge disadvantage unless you sort of know what you're doing.
That combat....
I like turn-based combat but this looks really weird and clunky. Nah...I see no reason to play it.
comment
a shame it looks like that. nice review as usual :-)
fuckt=fact
fucktion=faction
ur video= me loling
The combat grid is horrible.
epic games free game xd
epic games :(
Combat is so hard, that is almost bordering on stupid, i mean, fighter character, directly build as such, and cant defeat two shitty npcs, i mean, hit me in the arms and goodbye, its ridiculous, i think this game is build only around talking NOT at all combat, i have my character pumped up to do melee combat and i die very easily. Give it another go, but i dont see the point. I like to fight sometimes, but if its almost impossible to fight this isnt for me. And im really all about story and rpgs, but this is well so far i dont know what it is. I dont care about graphics much but ure right couldve been a bit better also the game coulve used some voice acting at least for the main storyline. Im not used to quit a game just because somethings a bit different or harder then usual, but this is quite frankly insane. A merchant and a thug butcher me, as ive said, hit me in the amrs and its over, they almost never miss, and thats absolutely unfair and also u miss a LOT i mean comon. I know that the fights supposed to be hard in this one, played the demo and i know what i was getting into, but this is very different. In the demo those two were doable, now they are impossible and that time in demo i was only an assassin not so much of a fighter and still could handle them, granted only few hp left after battle but still. Now its impossible, its borderline stupid. I give it ago again and worst case scenario, i.. well run instead of fighting them :D.
yep, LATER, but then theres no diff. vs other RPGs, most are made the same way, first ure weak barely can defeat one two, then ull superman. So its great, that u can later in the game, but if early in a game a fighting character cant defeat a fckin merchant and a thug, is wtf ridiculous. As ive said im ok with a challenge, so no problem there, only it was a fckin big wake up call. and big punch in the face at the same time.
Why mentioning C with RPG?
Because a Computer RPG--a CRPG--is distinct from a tabletop (or pen-and-paper) role-playing game--which is just called an RPG, probably because tabletop RPGs came well before CRPGs. ;)
well, if I remember correctly, during the time when it really could have had little sense to point out that the the thing that he is looking at on his computer screen is indeed computer rpg and not a paper one was, when we had games like Baldurs Gate, Planescape Torment, Eye of the Beholder and so on. The term CRPG wasn't being used back then. Maybe didn't even exist. And shockingly there wasn't a person on this planet or among the aliens who receive our media signals who has mistaken a computer game for a paper table top game.
Oh, I'm sorry. Didn't realize you just wanted to be critical and bitch for no reason. My mistake.
True, you are partially innocent, since you didn't come up with this term. but on the other hand, even thought it was the priest to blame the woman out of witchcraft, all the peasants standing around the fire deserve to be sprayed by a machine gun fire.
This made me laugh. I ~think~ I know what you're saying, and if so, I appreciate the sentiment. :)
Punishing games aren't for me, i pass.......
Just sounds like it’s to complicated for its own good...and if you want to say it’s only for the hardcore then this game just isn’t ment to sell well at all to its own detriment
It really is quite straightforward. That said, not all games are supposed to sell well to the general public. Likewise, not every film is a superhero movie; not every book is Young Adult; not every band is a pop band, and so on.
@@Humanophage Exactly, the people that worked on this game were really putting a focus on the oldschool hardcore rpg fanatics and props to them. It's definitely not for everyone and every game doesn't need to be.
It's garbage.
Sounds like a waste of time and boring.
