That was Anthony Head (Giles) singing he has a great voice
Amber Benson is Tara. You may also remember her name from a couple of episodes of Supernatural. She was the leader of that small vampire group that tried to get by drinking cattle blood. I think it was season 2 or 3.
She has also written some fantasy books, etc. From her bio:
"Amber Benson is the author of the Echo Park Coven Novels and the Calliope Reaper-Jones Novels. She cocreated, cowrote, and directed the animated supernatural Web series Ghosts of Albion with Christopher Golden, which they followed with a series of novels, including Witchery and Accursed, and the novella Astray. Benson and Golden also coauthored the novella The Seven Whistlers. As an actress, she has appeared in dozens of roles in feature films, TV movies, and television series, including the fan-favorite role of Tara Maclay on three seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Benson wrote, produced, and directed the feature films Chance and Lovers, Liars and Lunatics."
correct she was in an episode in season 2 and season 6
Anya is one of those characters that should have been completely annoying but the actress somehow made it work perfectly, plus one of the only natural feeling additions to the Scooby gang I can remember in the show other than Oz.
i like anya, but i have no idea what you're talking about when you say "one of the only natural feeling additions to the scooby gang".
I have posted this several times, but I feel obligated every time…the worst Buffy episodes are still so much fun because of great acting and dialogue.
That’s true. I’d still watch them over some of the crap we have on TV today.
Anthony Stewart Head is a an accomplished singer. I'll also note that James Marsters and Amber Benson are pretty good themselves.
Anthony (Giles) was definitely singing. He's been in musicals for years, and his older brother Murray Head was in the original cast of Chess ("One Night in Bangkok" became a pretty popular single in the 80's).
Apparently Anthony has also played Frank N. Furter in productions of "Rocky Horror Picture Show" -- oh, what I would pay to see clips from that! ❤
Holy 80s reachback, Batman! "One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble." Great find on the siblingness of those two.
If I remember correctly you can find, on YT, some clips of the 25th anniversary of the Rocky Horror P.S. with some songs sang by Anthony.
There's also a singing duet with Amber that plays the lead actress (also on YT, i believe)
Tara's reaction is actually a transformative moment. Before that, the relationship between her and Willow was a metaphor for a lesbian relationship, with magic symbolizing sex. Here, we get a hint that she has actual sexual feelings for Willow, and the house punishes her for them.
I felt like that was implied very early on in their relationship to be honest.
It was Willow that we didn’t know for sure on.
Or do you mean literally sexual feelings? Not just romantic ones.
@@Girl4Music the reaction was due to the fact the ghosts were punitive to sexual activity, I thought this was crystal clear. I don't like this episode as much as the rest, but then again maybe because I am not the biggest Riley-Buffy fan. I don't think SMG and Blucas have a lot of chemistry on screen.
@@Nexusofgeek yeah. I got that myself. Tara is an Empath. She’s more susceptible to energy no matter what kind.
Antony Stewart Head has a great singing voice. I'd recommend checking out Repo: The Genetic Opera, he was cast in the Movie after they heard his singing in Buffy
19:20 I think Tara just felt that something was wrong - just like she sensed that Buffy was possessed.
Actually she said she was not sure about that: she sensed something deeper than possession.
Wish they had shown her doing this with all the vampires. Would have helped a lot.
Anthony Head has a great voice.
Hi Jayne! My least favorite episode of the season. As for your question about Tara/Willow, I remember being also "intrigued" by their reaction the first time I watched it. As Tara uses the word "disgusting", I'm sure that it's the spirit talking. Marvelous Kathryn Joosten's character used to abuse children letting them think they were "dirty" when any sign of affection that could lead to a sexual thought/gesture was displayed. I think that thanks to our current characters, we witness different stages of what had happened to the teenagers: simple affection/flirt/arousal/sexual intercourse/punishment/shame/death..The poor girl cutting her hair ("I'm bad" - same lexical field) is a strong example too. I don't think it's related to the Wicca condition here. Some people are more receptive than others, having more intuition etc. therefore being more exposed (remember Tara nailing Buffy wasn't herself). As for Giles, I think we've all been there!!!! Still are actually, what a voice, what a sexy guy!!! 😉
I was today years old when I found out that Tony Head played Dr. Frank N Furter in a musical tribute to the Rocky Horror Picture Show 🤯
Safety first. Always remember your hard hat and harness.
> Graham: and *I* was the one who got a 'D' in covert ops?
Well I guess Buffy got herself a 'D' during Riley's covert ops.
Fun Fact: Tony Head was Frank-N-Furter in the Rocky Horror Show in London in the early 90s. Yes, he's really got the pipes.
If you're into Anthony Head and his awesome singing I would recommend Repo! The Genetic Opera. Sarah Brightman and Anthony Head are terrific!
So the guy who plays "Forrest's friend", whose name is Graham, btw, was ALSO in the series premiere of Lucifer (he played the actor Gray Cooper).
This episode really highlights the strength of the show even at its weakest. An utterly lame premise, a complete lack of story...but great character moments and sparkling moments of dialogue. Anya is a treasure,Spike just can't help himself and Giles adulting was simply gold.
Hello 👋. Let’s not forget Buffy dance that way first. Even before Faith came along.
If anyone wants more singing Giles they should watch repo: the genetic opera
And we have another Giles' fan, you should get together with Domie, Alleybox and Lexi.
If you really want to delve in more to Anthony Stewart Head's (Giles) musical abilities I highly recommend watching Repo! The Genetic Opera. He does an amazing job & it's a fun movie.
5:13😂 My only reason I watch this episode The OG Renagade Rebel 🤘
Good Reaction
I'm not a big fan of this episode, but I do love Anya's angry, "Me too! Whoo hoo!" Cracks me up every time.
And the Scoobies seeing Giles at the coffee house is pretty funny too.
After a bad day this has really put me in a good mood thank you Dakara ❤but it was mostly Spike lol
Glad you enjoyed!
When this came out, Giles was about 47-48 years old..😏
Taras' whole mystery will continue to be explored as the show progresses, you'll just have to be patient. I assure you, it will be worth it.
I just love how everybody assumes her to be evil these past couple of episodes.
Not the best episode of the season, but I enjoy several aspects of it.
ASH 😅at the coffeehouse is gold.
Various relationships...evolve.
Tara's reaction was because of the "poltergasm" effects - the spirits both caused excess sexual energy and also channeled the mean old lady's sadistic punishments for any sexual feelings. So both positive and negative reactions.
Tara is indeed hiding something...as with most characters, we'll learn more sooner or later...
I like to think of this episode as a big middle finger from the writers to the network, pointing out the hypocrisy of their homophobic prudery. Buffy and Riley have hot, sweaty sex for the majority of the episode, while Willow and Tara can't even hold hands.
Also, Buffy and Riley might have been fueling the energy, but it's a FRAT HOUSE. People must be having sex there all the time. I prefer to think that the "poltergasm" was triggered by something the Initiative did.
The actor who plays Giles has an album or two
The fact that no one in the comments could actually accurately answer this is so weird to me. The Tara/Willow thing was the spirits in the house. They're spirits who were raised RELIGIOUSLY and punished for being "dirty". Of course they'd think anything LGBTQIA+ was "disgusting". That was one of the spirits getting into and/or influencing Tara.
Amber Benson is Tara.
Interesting but definitely not one of the better eps of the season for me. Singing Giles and Anya being in classic form were the best parts for me. Entertaining reaction as always, D! A CTU for you today, now on to the Angel reaction! Gonna be a good'n! Keep em coming!
The house was manifesting sexual energy, but also a great deal of shame because of the abuse the children experienced punishing them for sexual desire because it's "dirty". When Tara reacts to Willow's touch by recoiling it's the influence of the house making her feels shame for her desire for Willow.
For the Algorithm ⚠️
This episode always gets a bad rep but I absolutely love this. Esp for the LOLs.
Giles singing, and Anya and Spike were the only entertaining parts of the episode.
You figure out who Amber Benson is, if not it will come to you. 😉
When Anya is flirting with Spike youre cool with it but Xander says one word to a girl and youre like "what are ya doin?" lol....
Spike flirts with Anya, Anya doesn't flirt with Spike. Not to mention Xander is very consciously seeing a pretty girl and trying to flirt with her
@@spikesecho724 there's a double standard okay... Cope.
@@justsomepunk8408 literally just told you how you *didn't* identify a double standard. Anya never flirted
@@spikesecho724 actually I did because dakara is totally cool with spike flirting with Anya. It's not about who flirted its about her reaction. Just like with every girl reactor there's a double standard... Again... Cope.
@@justsomepunk8408 well....again....get some intelligence. Because this isn't a double standard. Anya's not flirting. Xander is. Simple as that. Someone outside of their relationship flirting with either of them has no bearing. If Anya flirted and Dakara didn't have the same attitude as when Xander flirted THEN you'd have a double standard.
Yes, it affected Tara differently because she's not human. Nothing else going on there at all. Nope.
This is my least favorite ep. of the season because the plot makes no sense. Poltergeists attack the frat house even though no one died. Some people experience a sexual high, others feel shame, some feel cold, some nearly drown and there are vines for some reason. It's all powered by Buffy & Riley have sex and interrupting makes it all go away. Nothing is resolved really, it's nonsense. There are some good moments as always: Giles singing, Spike's walking away. The fight between Xander and Anya seems forced though.
"Some people experience a sexual high, others feel shame, some feel cold, some nearly drown"
I don't really know how you missed the point that badly for that part, it's not a subtle or hidden.
This episode is so bad, even with Giles singing, it's bad. Easy to believe this was written by the same person that wrote Beer Bad, but hard to believe she also wrote Something Blue. After this one, she'd never write for the series again.
There was another writer on ‘Something Blue’. Perhaps that other writer “guided” Tracey’s efforts.
Or Whedon just dominated the writers room.
Ugh, this episode is my least favourite of the season, maybe of all of them. Just… no.
I kinda hate this scene. Willow finally makes a move on Tara and the house decides to be homophobic and projects that through Tara because she’s so susceptible to energy. Everybody else gets to be blatant horny little bunnies (yes, even Anya) but them.
I think you're reading into it a bit too much there love. Calm down
@@itzbp9949 It’s just how it feels. Might not be what it is but it’s how it feels and that matters.
I really don't think it was like that though
@@itzbp9949 like I said: it’s just how it feels.
Well it fits with the theme, I mean that religious lady was 100000% homophobic and statistics tells that there would have been gay children living under her "care", wouldn't be surprised if she exposed them to conversion therapy leading some of those children to hate their own homosexuality leading to the outburst through Tara just like how that girl Xander kissed (forgot her name) that starts to cut her hair in shame in the closet.
One of the poorer episodes of the whole series. The situation with Anya and Xander becoming somewhat tiresome, in that Anya is constantly pressurizing Xander for sex, we know she is a demon and doesn't understand human emotions and desires, and while it is as funny at first it is really overdone here. A very ropey plot, and a real filler of an episode which sums up much of S4 even though it does have some brilliant individual episodes it has bad ones too. So much better to come in the brilliant S5.
This was kind of a lame, and boring episode. 🤔
Seriously 😂
When this came out, Giles was about 47-48 years old..😏
