    I'd just like to say I don't intend on ever making a long video like this again. It's just I had a lot to say/share that I couldn't due to focusing on school this past week. Sadly all of May will be like this because of my finals. But I segmented this video using timestamps so you can click on whichever portion you'd like.

      What subjects do you do at school? I'm not interested in general, just whether it is related to what you do here. Because I consider your analyses to be the best I've seen online!
      Sure, guys like Dima on Military Summary add other important stuff, because he lives in Belarus and pools more sources. But his military understanding is, well, on the NATO level ;-D
      And HistoryLegend is really exceptional in his weekly military analysis. Then there are interviewes with guys like Jacqeus Baud (a Swiss Colonel lifelong specialized on understanding Soviet warfare doctrine, which is an unfair advantage).
      But in your genre of looking at this in terms of how open source reports can be mapped, you are really the star of this tragically bloody show! An indespensible complementary to the others mentioned.

    They didn't use much armour and lead the assault with light infantry supported by airstrikes and artillery and various precision strikes. I read it was lead by spetznaz and elite infantry in small groups. I think even though the attack was expected, the composition of the Russians force allowed for a concealed and rapid concentration, thus give an element of surprise.

    • @Betz23K
      @Betz23K 25 днів тому

      if "surprise" gains more than a tactical success (hit&run) the defender or the defenses are not "sufficient"
      until the fpv-threat couldn´t be "contained" AVs may be staying in the role of fire support ... and shock-units like in ww1 are the most efficient tool (backed with enough instand available "breakthrough" firepower)

    The Russian attack vector that is aimed closest to Kharkov is down a ridgeline that is a little bit lower than ridgelines to the West that also head in the Kharkov direction but there is one big difference - the ridgeline Russia is on now is kind of dead-end if you with to attack Kharkov from it. Those more western ridglines that they are not attacking, like the one with E105 road on you can see in this map, go directly to the City of Kharkov (which is in a valley) and dominate it from just a couple kilometers away. Those western ridglines are where ukrain invested heavily in fortifications, not here, and I think that was actually wise. The most western russian attack vector goes along a ridgeline that ends at the little village of Lypsti which spills out into a larger valley that is still 20km from Kharkov. So when the Russians get to Lyptsi it is kind of a dead end with regards to capturing or pressuring Kharkov, they will be forced to scale those fortified western ridgelines I am speaking about from the valley 300 feet below them.
    So the Ukrainians just didn't do a lot of work on this area I think mainly because as I said it is kind of dead-end at least as far as Kharkov is concerned.
    And really what Ukraine should have done was lightly reinforce these villages and slowly pull back trading territory for time while inflicting damage as the attacking force pulls a little away from its AD and EW systems on the attack.
    But because the Ukrainain army and government is driven not by military considerations but those of narrative and optics they feel compelled to rob peter to pay paul instead of letting these meaningless villages be captured. And this is exactly what Russia wants. They get to fight all these competent Ukrianain units pulled from other areas not where they are deeply dug in but in these new makeshift defensive systems they were just sent to in the last 24 hours.
    I also agree with others that there may be a second objective, to eventually put pressure on the Kupiansk sector and again draw in Ukrainian reserves to fight not in there deeply fortified positions but in makeshift positions. I don't think Kharkov was ever an objective but just getting near it caused so much pressure on the Ukr govt they had to react poorly.

    19:50---It says something about the necessity for dispersion in consideration of enhanced lethality of postmodern weaponry that a grouping of "dozens" of soldiers road-marching together in one area is considered a "massive amount." Rather difficult to envision "human wave attacks" being made with this sort of force distribution.

The Russian Federation forces are so good, so capable that they achieve all these advances with just 30,000 troops, spread out over a huge territory.
    Imagine, what will happen when the 850,000 Russian Federation forces enter the battlefields of Ukraine. Then the Zelensky Nato show will be extinguished very quickly. But Russia plays out it's moves carefully and with major concern about human life... always.. even enemy lives.

    When you build fortifications that aren’t all interconnected they can be easily flanked and encircled by a large force so hence the reason they aren’t very effective. When you are being flanked even though you are in a fortified position you have to withdraw . Simple you can’t get encircled and try to defend against a large force hitting you from more then one side. Also we all know Ukraine is lacking manpower they can’t even get another group of fresh fighters in the amount they need from their population. They already pulled on that multiple times and lost them . Russia has way more population left they could pull from if needed they have way more weapons and extreme amount more ability to make new and more weapons which is why this war is over . Once Russia gains an advantage in those key factors it’s done . It will only get worse for Ukraine now. Which is why they shouldn’t be listening to the west at all anymore and literally beg for a peace deal they need to surrender and hope for best deal . Longer they wait worse outcome they will get and the more people from a generation they will lose . The country will be crippled for a long time already with the amount of losses taken. Anyone who actually cares for these people would be demanding a peace deal be reached . The leaders are going to be overthrown by their own military soon enough if this does not happen. You can tell their desire to fight in this war has collapsed significantly. Motivation is way down look when these elite forces were suppose to go to certain breakthroughs over the past month and literally defied the order. This is a lost war for the west and Ukraine already just waiting til something happens to get the agreement to end this conflict.

    The Russian invaders have lost at least 4000 troops so far. They have taken what amounts to a few villages with a couple of streets that were never meant to be defended and suffered catastrophic casualties. The Russian invaders are now effectively in a kill box. And they haven't even reached the areas where the main defensive lines are located. Russian forces will gradually weaken while Ukrainian forces will only strengthen as 60 billion dollars' worth of aid reaches the front line. Every week I hear the same thing about how Ukraine is finished and Russia is winning this illegal war but the truth is we are into the 3rd year of the war and Russian unlawful gains have been minimal. Russia is approaching 500,000 casualties, how anyone in their right mind supports such slaughter is beyond understanding. And it will only get worse. For the last 7 months Ukraine has been fighting with virtually no ammunition for its weapon systems and still, Russia cannot defeat the Ukrainians. What do you think is going to happen when they start receiving the new military aid packages, including F-16s from the West? Russia is finished it just does not know it yet.
