    Great idea. Only thing is you may want to add a screen over the over flow end to keep mosquitoes from entering there. The overflow on our whole house rain catchment system I wrapped screen over the pipe with zip ties. All I have to do is remove the zip ties to clean the screen.

    I think I would not put the overflow pipe directly above the spigot, I would shift it off to the side so that you can use the spigot when it overflows without getting wet. It would also make it easier to drain the overflow into something else or maybe connect another container on the side.

    The rain catchment system looks great. I have two and paid big bucks for them. Yours is amazing. Just a thought, why not add a second barrel and have the overflow go into the second barrel. Use the overflow also! Anyway, what a great idea this is! Take care!❤️

    Looks good! The only thing I did differently was to put mine on cinder blocks to raise it off the ground a little. It helps to make the flow faster, but I have a longer hose, so maybe I needed to.
    Have a great day🙂

      ? You can raise it ten feet off the ground and it still would not flow any faster. Now if you got container 8ft tall vs 4 ft then you would increase the flow.

    • @beckypage6041
      @beckypage6041 2 роки тому

      @@Scott-ig1zd mine’s not that tall, but I think it has something to with the location of drain plug. I didn’t make it and people who gave it to me, couldn’t get it to work. I read the instructions and it said to slightly elevated it. I did. Never had a problem with it, plus I can see if there’s a cottonmouth around or under container.
      Instructions never explain why container needed to be raised, I just followed the instructions for once. Lol

    Jared, just found you today. Great idea and great job!! New to homesteading and off-grid but loving the learning experiences I am having so far! I think the only thing I would have added is a larger screen to cover more of the top opening to prevent as much debris & bugs from getting in. It seems that you may have to actually clean it more frequently, especially in the fall & winter. This is very practical, economical and reliable long-term. I'd love to see an update on how it held up. In some of the comments it seems that you may have hit some difficult times-I hope that all is well with you & yours. Thanks for a great video! --Tess

    Great DIY rain barrel idea and execution! One suggestion is to put a piece of the mesh to cover the overflow spout so mosquitoes don’t find their way in that way as well or put mosquito dunks in there to kill off mosquito larva. Place the catchment where rain will fall off your roof. Even without gutters, you will collect much more than if it was sitting out on it’s own. When you get the dog houses, put gutters on them with one of your rain barrels to catch off their roof. The more surface area to collect rain, the faster it will collect even if just a light, short rain.

He has never followed thru on anything and felt from day one he wanted u out there to take care of animals, that way they can stay at her house, or go on vacation. And can't do that with animals to take care of. Just get your animals, and get your beautiful home and good neighbors and all of us that love your videos going again and post your videos again. You r a hard worker and a get things done type of guy. So glad your closer to your mom and dad and Mat. Please post a video, want to see you get your property going again and animals in your barn. Looks good! Setting something up below the overflow to catch that water would be a good idea. Why allow all that good water go to waste? Also, if the overflow is positioned at the side of the trash can, instead of directly over the water spucket, it would give you more room to put a secondary catchment basin up beside it

    Nice 👍🏼 you could also double or triple the water collection by making the overflow pipe longer and placing it on the side so you can connect another trash can - doing it that way could make it easier so you could make each one designated for particular use - for example one can be fitted specifically for irrigation and so on , great video , thanks for the ideas 👍🏼

    What an awesome set up. Best part, pretty cheap way to harvest H2O. You would actually be able to filter that water to drink using a Berkey Water system. Definitely going to be doing A few of these for garden watering.
    P.S. maybe set your container up on something so you can put a bucket under tap and not bend over as far.
    Blessings as you encourage others to be creative. 😊💕🙏🏻🇨🇦

    Hey Jared, I think we're all excited about your plans for the future. Looking forward to hearing about them. Can we fast forward to the bit where you name your new ranch so we can buy the merch
