This was filmed only a year after the band formed. Kelvin was, I think, about 18 years old. He had just been hired to be the Gang of Four's drummer but then Hugo came back from a theater tour and Kelvin, who had turned down a different gig to join the Gang of Four, was out. Then he got the Delta 5 invite and was hired without an audition! A year later they were on their first American tour. The first stop was here. All things considered, they were a dam tight band already.

I'm 54, but my partner (a muscian & dj) put me on to this song several yrs ago. Watching "Man who fell to earth" reminded me - sounded so good! Then, Roe vs Wade fell June 24 2022 in the US. Blasted this, danced, cried, sweated and ready to vote blue & help the young women who will need this kind of empowerment and inspiration to regain their freedom. I hope this song rings from the rooftops & rallies all over America! Thank you so much for sharing this video
As you miay have noticed, I featured footage I shot back in the early 80ies at a pro-choice women's right rally which is featured in the little mini movie on the left. So sad to see the marching was for nothing.

Saw Delta 5 on the same line up as Pere Ubu and the Gang of Four in Derby in 1981. One of the three on their own would have been enough for me; all three was stunning.

Saw them back in 1980 at the Dirt in Bloomfield, NJ. Such a great show.

So funny - the only reason I am watching this is because of the apple commercial about privacy in 2021 - a full 41 years after this was recorded, right before they broke up at the end of 1980.

I wouldn't have discovered this song, this band, if it wasn't for the new Showtime series, "The Man Who Fell to Earth", episode 6, 31:38min. When I heard that bassline and the drum kit, when the monotone vocals came in with the stabbingly simplistic, yet borderline grungy lyrics...I immediately stopped the video to find out more about the song. Funky with a Punk flare...Brilliantly Mesmerizing.

FUN FACT: Delta 5 opened up for The Thompson Twins and ☆U2☆ in early 1981 at The Lyceum Theatre in central London.

The whole set is incredible and there is wonderful commentary by the recently passed drummer, Kelvin Knight. They really had a unique style, every person adds something, and since their music was not "overexposed" it is like hearing it fresh.
Buy the video too, if you want to experience Delta 5 at their very best!

amazing band. i have always loved strange/cult music bands, but when i listened to their strange/cult funk-punk riffs , i just was amazed. Along with Au Pair, Girls At Our Best and Gang of Four, of course, constitute the amazing and different music I still want to listen to. We will always love you guys....

Yeah not bad for less than £3 !....bands used to expect to lose money touring but 'pick up fans' who would often buy the records( & othen stick with the bands during lean times to keep things ticking over).
Now it's the 'live performances' that make the money...I might just be an old git ,but when I see £200 + for a 'name performer' & for an extra £150 you can 'shake hands & have a photo with your favourites' I kind of feel a lot has been lost in the Artist-Audience relationship/Balance
Yes, all three bands played at Hurrah and I filmed all but Pere Ubu, to my regret! That was kind of what set a fire under me to start filming all the performances, missing Pere Ubu.

The full screen performance visuals are on the screen right in full size. The visuals on the left are a mix that includes a lot of the original visuals I used to project when the dj played their singles in the club where I filmed this performance. My job in the club was making live improvised music videoas to project when the dj spinned the music. I was the first video jockey, making up the term for my first paycheck. So I hope this helps you to appreciate the visuals a bit more, and if not, you could hold your hand over the left side of the screen and pretend they're not there. If that still doesn't work, you can MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!
