I don't think the album is meant to be stopped after every song. They are all transitions
Man the chat is annoying in this one. I didn't know there were that many people with terrible taste who watch his streams
the chat didn't get it
seriously man, they probably thought pavement or those "lo-fi beats to study to" were lo-fi lol (not that there's anything wrong with pavement, love them too)
One of the best records ever!! The way the tracks connect; rock and poetry in a symbiotic harmony. Very special.
You just gotta to Alien Lanes after hearing Bee Thousand. These are two of the greatest albums of the 90s.
Robert Pollard is amazing. He has a bunch of solo and side projects as well. The man has released nearly 120 full length records plus a pile of eps. You have opened the door to an entire universe and I encourage you to explore it. It is quite overwhelming at first but we’ll worth the effort. This album is a huge grower too so the fact that you liked it so much on first listen bodes well.
And 3 of the "albums" are 4 disc boxsets with 100 songs each. So 400 songs on just 4 albums. Plus over 100 more albums.
One of the best albums ever. If you get into the habit of re-listening to it you’ll never stop. Same with Alien Lanes.
GBV the best indie band. Glad you reacted to them. They have like a billion songs.
Yes, you said the key points. I used to be a GBV geek, went to meet the hardcore nerds in NYC back in "Bee2000"
It's an addiction....it rewards the more the listen. Absolute classic record!
It's the energy of the record. You listen as if you are at the bands rehearsal. So intimate
chat got filtered lol
Tractor Rape Chain is about agriculture abuse of the planet that chat needs to grow up
the chat judging the entire album after 30 seconds of the first song :(
Chat a bunch of bots who don’t know music
lol its funny how brad and chat were like "man tractor rape chain has a crazy title" when its referring to rapeseed. but they couldn't have known so yeh
Glad Brad liked it, chat was lame as hell
Love GBV they're a continuation of the fabs in many ways , RP like all of us music makers wants to be them in some way , shape or form ❤
Go see them live. The band is professional, tight, and they take the songs to a whole different level.
dear lord chat was insufferable in this one
Seriously. That one guy who kept comparing this to the Beatles made me lose it.
@@HenryMythseriously, if there’s any 60s band GBV could be compared to it’s probably The Who realistically
chat got fucking filtered LOL
holy shit rhys m was so annoying mods need to start banning people that just fucking whine to no end
Andddd this is why I hate Brads community even though he is a chill guy lol
Smothered In Hugs? Cool, you seem to love noise. Robert Pollard's solo debut, Not In My Airforce, is similarly low-fi but anthemic and bombastic
Uncle Bob has more hooks than a bait shop.
It's truly shocking how chat HATES this album except for some goated folk like Brandon. I understand it to a degree, I hated this album in middle school, but after giving a few more tries I was able to acclimate to the production. Now I know every word.
This albums filters hard
The fact that the chat keeps comparing this to a fucking million different albums is testament to how actually unique gbv is
And this, boys and girls, is how you do an album reaction - you do it UNCUT or don't f-n do it at all. Well done!
Well I'm sure everyone would do uncut album reactions if they could. Brad doesn't even upload the full album reactions uncut on his channel. What are you even so against here? Lol.
@@Xeroforte What do you mean? This is not his channel?
I'm not against anything, just giving this guy a shout out.
Geez...
This album changed my life.
Best record ever made
Demons are real in Dayton!
Garbage chat, good reaction from Brad, all time classic album for me. I adore Bee Thousand and was hoping I'd find the reaction that matched his score on AOTY
I dont know why americans aren't able to enjoy surrealism and symbolism in lyrics lol
Idk if it’s an American thing but yeah, and it’s not like GBV’s lyrics are lacking in sincerity or emotionality despite being surreal and symbolic
Americans are GBV's primary audience and they're from Dayton Ohio, Americans themselves, so I'm sure Americans are able to enjoy surrealism and symbolism. It's just a bad chat lol
@@kianbarker6781 you are right, I said that because it is not the first time that I see in popular media americans laugh about this type of art. Maybe my point is that generally, In the "west", I see very often that almost only hyperrealistic art is enjoyed, and if something is surreal, it is not taken seriously, its laughed about as simple nonsense
Why do people who aren’t American put all Americans in a box? Nevermind they don’t actually do that… like all Americans don’t understand nuance, symbolism, satire, irony, obtuse expression. I’m sure it’s something you noticed but have hope for some of us Americans:) please
chat's full of mouth breathers huh
9:25 this person called GBV pretentious 😂 they’re the least pretentious band i can think of
Some folks in the chat made a big deal about the title of the third track. The title comes from something like an article on agricultural machinery. It pertains to harvesting rapeseed for use as animal feed or oils.
Oh yeah. I forgot rape has a botanical definition too, not just a sexual/criminal one.
I think Bob has said before that there's a sort of connotation of mans mistreatment/exploitation of the environment to the phrase so that maybe kind of lies up with that. it's kind of like a nightmare vision of tractors tearing up the earth
