I really appreciate your clear directions and visuals, this gave me the courage to try this on my own. I hope it goes as smooth as you made it look! That battery trick was the icing on the cake.
This is an absolutely spot-on video I was just considering the idea of reconing speakers in the amp I've just acquired. Watching this it's a no-brainer thank you very much.
Dude! That was very well done and I spent 20 years in the military teaching others. This was the video I was looking for. It shows the entire process as well as any How Its Made I've every watched. I'going to recone an Oaktron FE15TW 8 ohm speaker that cam in a cabinet I purchased for an amplifier project. I just needed the cabinet, but them I got to looking at the speaker and decided it was worth saving. You've saved an Oaktron sir ;O}
I've done lots of rotted foam on various speakers but never the whole cone and voice coil, You make it look easy. I'm going to try it on a Pioneer 30-48F 12" woofer from a CS-88 speaker from 1969
Thank you so much! I have a subwoofer from my dad that is 20 years old. But the cone from the coil dried, and ripped. He tried putting cilacone on it. But it was to heavy for the Sub! I fixed it!!. Now I didn't have to pay 90$ to fix my sub!! Only 30$!!!! Fixing it easily myself!!!!!
Man that was awesome. You did a fantastic job of explaining it. It was simple, direct and straightforward. And it helps that your voice is really pleasant to listen to. LOL. I could DEFINITELY do voice over for discovery. Great job👍
Man...I have been waiting for you....I was given a pair of Bose Tower speakers years ago that had the speakers blown ( 9 speakers per cabinet ) and didn't know if i was gonna try and fix them until now. Thank You
Just completely rebuilt a JBL D120f 12" for my 1965 Deluxe Reverb.. I've done surrounds and realigned Polk Audio magnets but never a full rebuild.. Have no fear, think before you start take your time follow the instructions and it will be easy. Been watching Craig's list and Ebay for blown EV and JBL guitar amp speakers.
Awesome video, clear and concise. Do you use the contact glue as contact glue (apply to both pieces, let dry, press together) or just as a directly applied rubberized glue? Do you find your kits from the manufacturer or from other, aftermarket sources? Cheers!!
nice! a piece of masking tape can be used to clean the coil slot where the spacer goes if anything got down there, just push it in like a ribbon and pull it out until no particles are found stuck to it.
Steve, even better than masking tape for cleaning debris from the voice-coil gap: the sticky edge of "Post-It" notes, those sticky notes you use as reminders on your fridge etc. The sticky paper is thicker than masking tape and doesn't curl up so much. I've even used it to clean the coil gap on old analog meters such as the one in my tube tester.
Nice job on the video I watched one by celestion but I don't like when people make videos and just play music and don't talk to tell you what they're doing or what glues to use etc Thanks
Devcon makes excellent epoxy glues but I don't recall ever seeing their contact cement. I've used Devcon "2-ton" epoxy many times; they also used to make a white epoxy that cured to a porcelain or ceramic-like surface ---- I used it, as well as some "Liquid Aluminum", to patch a leaky mold for making fishing weights from molten lead!
Yeah one thinks it Voodoo and Mojo but it's really easy if you take your time and think it through.. The lining up of the voice coil depth is the big part.. And poking holes in the cone to run the leads next is the soldering the leads to the voice coil.. Working on your soldering technique is a must as you will see all your work go poof before your eyes if you get sloppy.. using Aluminum dust caps make sure your leads are insulated as the dust cap will ground the leads and put you in a panic.. I simply place my leads under the dust cap if the cap does not mount to the voice coil former/Bobbin or just outside to avoid this issue.
You sure made it look easy, been holding off IVE got probably a dozen great speakers waiting to be fixed. I think I’ll order a few kits and do it over the winter. Thanks a lot.. oh question how much time do you actually have into this speaker. 2. This wasn’t your first speaker right? You looked professional doing it.
Nice video however you forgot to glue the spider. For the person asking why you space the voice coil. It prevent it from bottoming out. Also from jumping the gap.
you can use thinned down clear RTV from the hardware store. Thin with oderless mineral spirits. You dont want to glob it on, just enough to permeate the suspension to create a air tight seal. Rubber/poly suspensions dont need this, but the old cloth or paper type suspensions can benefit from this.
you got to love it when someone knows how it's done before they upload a 'who to' :} i'm about to attempt to fix the actual coil of an 8" just because i feel like it. fun fact, speakers are the weakest and least efficient electrical motors. most have an efficiency of less than 1%. it's not even funny :}
One thing I don’t understand is the point of reconing a speaker if it’s original parts are unavailable. It only makes sense if it’s parts are around. But with discontinued products it makes no sense
You tube is 90% S***. This is 100% Greatness. Absolutely perfect. Nothing missing. Nothing superfluous. 5 minutes is well edited. A++
I wish every video was as well explained and clear as this one. Great work!
I really appreciate your clear directions and visuals, this gave me the courage to try this on my own. I hope it goes as smooth as you made it look! That battery trick was the icing on the cake.
How did it go?!

Thanks man! Just found a pair of Advent Prodigy towers for $10 each, and might need some reconing probably. You just saved me dude.

I watch alot of recone videos and this is by far best one yet
This is my first. And I don't feel the need to look for others because it's so well done.

Simple, and to the point. I have a 1937 Philco shortwave radio with a shredded cone i'm going to try this on!
Bloody great walkthrough!

I never knew you could do this. I only heard about it from a video about tweed amps. Good stuff 👍

Great video.
What cone brand or characteristic, or type of material is suitable for better sound?
Nice video however you forgot to glue the spider. For the person asking why you space the voice coil. It prevent it from bottoming out. Also from jumping the gap.
Good job Bro
Very good video
Thank You, good job.
This was awesome 👌
Great video👍
Which type of adhesive should be used for the dust cap epoxy or contact?

I was wondering I got some 15s TOA speakers can I used the frame to rebuild them speakers with JBL kit or other name brand kits
Nicely done Sir! Fast and useful.
what is that device called that you were using to measure the width of your voice coil?
My question is where do you find the recone kits? I cant find the ones i need for my speakers
But great video very detailed
you made that look so easy.... Woooow!! 👏👏👏
Great instructional video, thanks!
Do you use the epoxy glue for the dust cap?
Wopila!

What kind of glue do you use for the dust cap?
Thanks for sharing, where did you get the silicone from to seal the edge of the surround?

What silicone type and brand is that which goes on white but turns clear when it dries?
Good job
I really want to save a pair of Jamo D265 but can't seem to find recone kits for them :(
What if the polarity is reversed? Do you have to take it apart and turn the coil around?
I want to rebuild my Pioneer drivers but cannot find cones and surrounds for a 16" woofer. What should I do?
If a kicker speaker is blown can you recone it with any brand recone
What is the reason why leaving 1/4 of the coils sticking out from the magnet?
Fix my speaker.com want 250 to fix my blown subwoofer I think not I found the parts to fix it for 60 bucks Cool video thank you for it

So the hardest part is to find the part in question, I always wanted to know this! Thanks man!
Please the Sony amp-615 speakers...and the realistic mach ones house 15
After you get over the fear of failing, it is step by step easy.. Thing is if you fail because you didn't take your time and think it through.
Does the spacer get removed? I didn't see that part in the video.
Yea.
@ 03:41
Replaced it like a surgeon.
you got to love it when someone knows how it's done before they upload a 'who to' :}

That's not how contact cement works. Contact cement goes on both mating surfaces and is allowed to dry. Then make contact of those two parts.
Where to buy this parts?
What type of silicon was used that goes on white and dries clear/black?
