Retired radio tech- you can get a single or dual "Firestick" antenna kit for your mirror(s), they come in 2,3,4,5 foot lengths in several colors (blue is one of them), and also have 18 foot completed coax cables. For the noise problem you can get a noise filter that attaches to the positive power lead of your radio. Grounding your antenna mounts is also helpful, as stated below.
Steve the 55 scale moved farther south. The old location north of Festus is now a ride share parking. Hwy 67 didn’t move was only widened. Going that route the Hope scales are all you’ll have before hitting Texas. Going down 55 in Arkansas the state line scales are there but not in operation. The Marion scale before the I40 split do open occasionally but are closed more than not.
Hello Steve. T Hasl from Norway 🇧🇻 again. Thank you for the trip. It is so nice when you post your videos. I see every singel of them on you tube. And yes, Orwell sounds great . Keep on your good and honest work.Steve.
Orwell sounds healthy and strong, fix his a.c. and the drivers seat, after all that is your mobile office, you will feel better with a new seat and a.c.
Orwell is a cool Cat. I love the scenery, scents and sounds. I could sit on the back of the trailer and enjoy the view and the organ pipes. (I call them "puffers"). May you and Orwell enjoy many more journey's with peace, safety and prosperity! Rock-on '84! 🚚😎
67 did not move. The scale house moved about 15 miles south of its old location. It's old location was that new parking lot you pointed out on your right side.
Great video Steve really enjoy all the different camera angles and your commentary and the music. Orwell's exhaust note's and the sound of the Jake's are great since alltge repairs. Looking forward to your next video stay safe Steve.
Bringing back a lot of memories with this one. I was stationed at Whiteman AFB in Missouri in the early 80's. Had a buddy that lived in the boothill of MO that I used to visit.
@@StevenWeinberg-t7x He can't. His parents, with the manipulation of his sister, trespassed him from their property (which is on property his sister owns) so if he were to go back, he'd be arrested.
Interesting fact the cab over military cargo trucks use cat 3116 engines and the fuel truck uses a cat c15 so there was a lot of cat yellow in one little area
@FSC Trucking.... I live in O'Fallon, Illinois off 64 exit 14 and yes Pop's is still there and is open all year 24/7 they close for one hour at 6 a.m. to clean the place, lots of good bands and good times.... Thank you for the amazing videos
Orwell sounds great I'm on my way to Dallas from Maryland I'll be there Wednesday morning on the 22 I'd love to catch up with you and Orwell one day out on the big road. Your channel is doing so much better I have been watching you and Orwell since you started have a nice trip and I'll catch you on the flip
I believe that truck stop was a Skelly, and if my memory serves me right they had a shop in there that would spruce up your interior by doing that tuck and roll button thing!Correct me if I wrong! My wife says I don't listen and I'm slipping! At least thats what I think she said!Drive safe and being a retired trucker, enjoying the ride along
I would run one antenna pushing 10 watts keeping my SWR 1. 1 to 1 around channel 19 on interstate 80 exit 70 in Pennsylvania at Bob’s CB shop he always treated me well with his work. US 67 is a good road to take FYI JAKE IS GOOD NOW,
Hi Big Guy, Those truck stops don't seem to have decent food for the truckies these days. What happened to a feed of steak eggs and chips, where did all that go. What ever you are feeding Orwell is agreeing with him as he goes along the highway sounding like it's not a problem and sounds very effortless doing it. Family problems, oh boy oh boy, hells bells and all that. I'm just so glad we haven't had any for a few years. My sisters decided to have a argument in a Cafe with all sorts of colorful language and one of them is a cop over your way. A very dodgy lady and it's probably best she stays there.
The hundreds on times I have done the DFW/STL car trips (in-laws) we do I-44 from STL to US69 to US75 into DFW. Lately I have been doing I-44 to US75 to 375 (turnpike at 80MPH) back to US69/75 to DFW. Costs a bit more and a bit longer but less starting and stopping in the little towns.
Dual antennas (Twin Truckers) are directional front and rear which is pretty cool considering your talking to people ahead or behind. Dunno about amps in a truck, not much point reaching out to people who don't have the range to talk back. Great for home tho.
I do agree with the guy with the running one antenna cuz he's running two antennas. You're directional so if one antenna you can get 163° around you of chat you can probably experiment with two but running 110. You're better off and place it towards the middle of the the roof and you can get it that you can use the truck cuz the ground plane
Since you have straight stacks at the top, do you think you should have Chris put hinge caps on the top so you don't rain in the stacks when you are parked? Sorry if that's a stupid question. Really like your channel and the shop stuff too.
@@raybassman7536 He talked about it when all the backseat truckers came out of the woodwork to lambast him. He hates the clatter of the caps and the amounts of water sitting in the pipes will be negligible. Plus, once he starts that 3406B, it'll push all that water out.
Hey how are you doing today my friend how is chirs doing today I like watching your UA-cam videos and they are very educated and I like the content in the videos
When I see mirror mounted antennas, it looks goofy with just one. To me, it would be like Orwell having a single passenger side exhaust instead of the dual exhaust stacks.
Way back when I drove for JMI out of Batesville AR. we ran 362 Pete cabovers I ran twin fire sticks angled on the lower mirror bar. With 18’ coax on both sides, my Galaxy 88 would knock your socks off. Looked cool as Sh!t too.
The camera on the fork loader looking out back of the trailer is great, but the one looking forward is only showing the back of the cab, you might want to check it out and move the camera.
Take I55 south to Hayti, then 412 west to 61 south. 4 lane road, light traffic. 61 speed limit is 75. Pick up I40 north of Little Rock. Less headache this way.
Let's be honest David actually sounds like Orwell has a set of nuts now instead of just kind of wishing he had some sounds pretty good now we just need to get his owner to get a decent smart seat like Dominique the dump truck driver has and I don't think I'd have any more complaints
Who pays the insurance on the load? Is it the customer, the shipper, or the rig owner (you)? Obviously the customer is paying for it in the end regardless but who is writing the check to the insurance company?
@@coopermarc6300 He put it in the can so he could post it when he's running out of video for the road, for the shop or he's having to take time off. This way, the channel doesn't suffer in the algorithm and we get "new to us" footage.
Really the dual is much better than single purely from an aesthetics standpoint. I like the symmetric look, doing amateur radio back in the days, I would run beam antennas in the bed of my pickup truck for rover work in the field and push a lot of power in the VHF/UHF bands, I still to this day hold a few records during contests. We would have anywhere from 20-25' long antennas setup on tripods in the bed over the cab. With CB's and dual antennas the proper phasing, losses and lower power that CB runs, not really worth it. Heck modern day GMRS / FRS sounds much better and the antenna requirements are much smaller at UHF frequencies. You would need to get a licenses for GMRS but FRS is free. Ironically they still use channel 19 on GMRS as well (462.650 MHz).
Everyone I know who had a humvee regrets ever buying one, too hard on fuel not much on power and ride like crap. But hey of that's what you want,go get one. Oh and I can't wait to see you out there running. I'm finally going back trucking.

I'm no radio whench. But I was having similar issues. As a test, I wan a ground wire from the antenna mount to a known ground. Worked for me.

Trucking with Schmidt was talking about a cb shop by the Iowa 80 truck stop, called Walcott Radio
I remember watching that episode of trucking with Schmitt but couldn’t remember the name of the cb shop

To see the antennas is good if you get the wilson's wilson's by giving you more output
The problem with dual antennas is that they are directional. But you can run more power through them! Add a 150-watt kicker and talk distance.
